- Chapter 39 - Tang Zizheng’s Confession
Tang Zizheng’s Confession
Listening to Jiang Haolin’s words, Tang Zizheng raised his head and said, “If I told you that I was forced to terminate my marriage engagement with Xin Xin, would you believe me?”
Jiang Haolin raised his eyebrows and asked, “Zizheng, are you kidding me? Who can force you to do something you don’t want to do?”
Tang Zizheng looked at him seriously and said, “No, I’m very serious.”
Jiang Haolin thought for a moment and said, “But I didn’t see that you were forced to break off the marriage engagement. That day, you seemed to really hate her and didn’t want to have anything to do with Xin Niang anymore. You also said those hurtful words to her in public.”
Reminded by Jiang Haolin, Tang Zizheng clenched his hands and said, “I know you may think I’m crazy, but someone at the time really controlled me. What I wanted to say changed when I said it. When I said those words, I was controlled by someone, and I couldn’t stop it.”
Jiang Haolin listened to his words and observed Tang Zizheng’s expression. Seeing the pain and helplessness on Tang Zizheng’s face, Jiang Haolin frowned and fell into deep thought.
After a long silence, he asked, “Do you know who was controlling you at that time?”
Tang Zizheng shook his head and said, “I have a guess, but I’m not sure if she is the one controlling me or not.”
“Who is she?” Jiang Haolin asked curiously.
Tang Zizheng looked into his best friend’s eyes and replied, “It’s Liang Jiaying.”
Jiang Haolin thought for a while and said, “She may be the one controlling you. But do you have any evidence to prove this?”
Tang Zizheng shook his head again and said, “I don’t have any evidence, but as long as she is around me, my body will be out of control. It felt like I was trapped inside a puppet. All I could do was try not to lose my mind.”
Jiang Haolin’s frown deepened when he heard this, “In that case, you should try to avoid her as much as you can. I will help you find evidence so that we can report her to the government for using witchcraft.”
Tang Zizheng nodded to him and said, “Thank you, Haolin.”
Jiang Haolin patted his shoulder and sighed, “I hope we can resolve this matter as soon as possible so that you can explain it clearly to Xin Niang.”
Tang Zizheng clenched his hands, looked at Jiang Haolin, and said, “I’m counting on you.”
After chatting for a while, Jiang Haolin left the Tang family’s house. Since he was still under punishment, Tang Zizheng could only send him to the yard and return to his bedroom to study.
He must pass the county examination as soon as possible so he can leave the village and avoid Liang Jiaying. As for Duan Yixin, he will come back and marry her after he solves the problem of being controlled and passes the imperial examination. Because of his guilt, Tang Zizheng wanted to give her the best and let her spend the rest of her life without worry.
Just when Tang Zizheng was very motivated to pass the county examination, Duan Yixin arrived at her home. After putting the medicine box back in the bedroom, she went to boil hot water and clean herself.
After washing away the smell of blood and sweat, Duan Yixin went to check the medicinal herbs on the drying rack in the backyard. Seeing that they were already half dry, she collected them and started sorting them out.
While she was busy, the sun slowly emerged from the eastern horizon. An hour later, she finished sorting the medicinal herbs.
Duan Yixin took out seven pieces of paper and prepared medicine for Lu Hanwen. Because Lu Hanwen lost too much blood, Duan Yixin added ginseng, Dang Gui, Shu Di Huang, Chuan Xiong, and Bai Shao Yao to the prescription since these medicinal herbs could improve blood circulation and replenish blood. All of these were taken from the liquid chip’s warehouse.
After preparing the medicine for Lu Hanwen that would last for a week, Duan Yixin went to the kitchen. She took out the pot of medicinal porridge from the warehouse, scooped it out, filled up two wooden bowls, and then put the rest of the medicinal porridge back into the warehouse.
Sitting on the low stool in the kitchen, Duan Yixin finished a bowl of medicinal porridge, then put the other bowl into a handbasket and went to Lu Hanwen’s house. When she arrived, she saw many villagers sitting in the yard and chatting with each other.
Just when she looked around to find Chi Xinru, the old woman who asked her a few questions before saw her from a distance. The old woman hurriedly walked up to her and said, “Xin Niang, you are here. Please come in.”
Seeing the expectation on the old woman’s face, Duan Yixin has no choice but to follow her into the crowded house. When the villagers saw her coming with a handbasket and a few packets of medicine, they talked in a low voice while looking at her from time to time. Duan Yixin noticed their gazes but said nothing along the way and just nodded as greetings to the villagers.
The old woman led Duan Yixin to the living room, took a look at the few packets of medicine in her hand, and said with hesitation, “Xin Niang, this…”
Duan Yixin found that the old woman was looking at the medicine. She handed the medicine to the old woman and said, “I have prepared this medicine for Wen Niang to replenish blood and heal injuries.”
The old woman didn’t dare to take the medicine and said, “This… Xin Niang, ah. You know our current situation. To be honest, we don’t have money to buy medicine. How about you take them back?”
Duan Yixin looked at the old woman’s expression, knowing that she was telling the truth, and thought to herself, ‘I don’t know who this old lady is, but she should have some relationship with Wen Niang.
