High Price
While Duan Yixin was enjoying tea and sweet-scented osmanthus cake, the servant knocked on the door of one of the rooms on the second floor. A few seconds later, he heard Tan Lidan’s voice coming from the room, “Come in.”
The servant pushed the door open and walked into the room. He stood in front of Tan Lidan, bent his waist slightly, and said, “Shopkeeper Tan, Miss Duan is here.”
Hearing the servant’s words, Tan Lidan raised his eyes and said, “I will be there in a moment. Entertain Miss Duan, and don’t be rude.”
The servant lowered his head and said, “Yes, Shopkeeper Tan.”
After the servant informed Tan Lidan of Duan Yixin’s visit, he left the room and closed the door. Putting down the writing brush on the brush stand, Tan Lidan turned to look at the folding screen behind him and asked, “Jian Yi, do you want to meet with Miss Duan?”
A few seconds after he asked, a young man in his twenties in black clothes came out from behind the folding screen. Hanging from his belt is a black token with a number one engraved on it. He held his long sword and walked to the table expressionlessly.
Jian Yi thought for a while and said, “I won’t meet her, but I want to observe her from a distance. Do you still remember the detailed information about the medicinal herbs that Master asked for?”
Tan Lidan nodded, was silent for a few seconds, and asked, “Jian Yi, do you know why Master wants those unheard-of medicinal herbs? I have worked for Master for many years, but this is the first time I have known that Master has knowledge in the medical field.”
Hearing this, Jian Yi glanced at him and said coldly, “Lidan, if you don’t want to die, just do your job well, and don’t ask questions that you shouldn’t ask.”
Looking at Jian Yi’s cold expression, Tan Lidan smiled and said, “I know. I’m just curious.”
“Curiosity killed the cat. You should be careful. Otherwise, you will not be able to return to your family in the imperial capital city.” Jian Yi reminded Tan Lidan while stroking his sword.
Feeling the cold, murderous intent coming from Jian Yi, Tan Lidan swallowed and said, “I’m going to see Miss Duan. You– just do whatever you want to do.”
After saying that, Tan Lidan left the room. When the door closed behind him, Jian Yi glanced at the beam and said calmly, “Lao Wu, tell Master that I will stay in Chunshan Town for a few more days to investigate the bandit’s lair and this woman called Miss Duan. She may be useful for our Master’s plan.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a young man jumped down from the beam. He looked at Jian Yi and asked, “Lao Da, what if Master needs you to do something later?”
Jian Yi thought for a moment and said, “Let Lao Er take over the task over there. After I finish investigating the bandit’s lair and this woman, I will return and report to Master.”
Jian Wu nodded and said, “Yes, Lao Da.”
As soon as he said these words, Jian Wu activated his internal energy and used his lightness skill, jumped down from the window, and disappeared. After Jian Wu left, Jian Yi took a look at the account book on the table.
He picked one of the account books and flipped through it. Seeing that there was nothing wrong with the account book, he put it back on the table and left the room.
In the side room, Duan Yixin had already finished three pieces of osmanthus cake when Tan Lidan walked in. When Duan Yixin saw him coming, she stood up and said, “Good morning, Shopkeeper Tan. I hope everything is well with you since we last met.”
Gesturing for her to take a seat, Tan Lidan took the main seat and said, “Thank you, Miss Duan. I also hope everything has been going well for you since your last visit. Is Miss Duan here to sell medicinal herbs again?”
Duan Yixin nodded, then reached into the bamboo basket beside her. With the bamboo basket as a cover, she took out a small box from the warehouse containing wild ginseng. She also filled the bamboo basket with common medicinal herbs, Bei Mu, and Qing Hao.
Placing the small wooden box on the table next to her, Duan Yixin looked at Tan Lidan and said, “Shopkeeper Tan, I found this wild ginseng in the mountain yesterday. I didn’t know if you were interested in buying it, so I brought it today for you to take a look.”
Tan Lidan looked thoughtfully at the size of the wooden box and said, “I believe in Miss Duan’s ability. If you are the one who discovered this ginseng, then its quality can be guaranteed. Can I take a look at the ginseng first before we negotiate the price?”
Duan Yixin smiled slightly and said, “Of course.”
After she said that, Tan Lidan glanced at the servant waiting on the side. The servant nodded, took the wooden box, and brought it to him. The servant placed the wooden box on the table next to the main seat and opened it carefully.
When Tan Lidan looked at the ginseng inside the wooden box, he was surprised by its size. He took a closer look at the ginseng and inspected it seriously.
After more than ten minutes, he moved his eyes away from the ginseng, looked at Duan Yixin, and said, “Miss Duan, you are so lucky to be able to find this thousand-year-old ginseng. The roots are intact, and the quality is very high. If you are willing, our Chang Shou Pharmacy wants to buy this ginseng from you.”
When Duan Yixin heard this, she raised her eyebrows slightly and thought, ‘Did Shopkeeper Tan make a mistake? That ginseng should only be about two hundred to three hundred years old. Why did he say it was a thousand-year-old ginseng? Or do they judge the maturity of medicinal herbs differently from me?’
