Mission
Looking at Duan Yixin’s expression, Chi Xiyou could guess what she was thinking. He smiled and asked, “Do you think this ‘temporary’ took too many years?”
When Duan Yixin heard this, she raised her eyes and looked at him. Seeing Chi Xiyou smiling at her, she nodded and said, “It’s indeed been too many years to say that this is a temporary stay.”
Sensing her curiosity, Chi Xiyou gently rubbed her head and said, “Elder Brother will tell you everything when the time comes. Now, you should go in since I need to go to the town to sell pheasants.”
Duan Yixin turned around and realized that they had arrived at her home. When she turned to look beside her, Chi Xiyou had already left. She turned around and saw him waving to her.
“Elder Brother will buy you delicious food in town. See you later, Xin Xin.” He said as he walked away.
Looking at his straight back and light steps, Duan Yixin fell into silence. She stood there until she could no longer see him before entering the house.
While Duan Yixin was busy with the farmland design, the sun slowly set on the western horizon. As the moon hung high in the night sky, a masked man in black stopped in front of a cave hidden behind dense vegetation in Yunshan Mountain.
Before he could take a breath, five swords were already placed on his neck. Looking at the men who were looking at him coldly, he said, “Brothers, can you let me take a break first? I came from Yunshan Village and haven’t rested since last night. I’m going to die from exhaustion.”
A man with a black token hanging on his waist and the number six engraved on it said coldly, “Speak or die.”
The man swallowed and said, “Hundreds of families in my hometown had been scattered around; the survivors were lost somewhere, and the dead ones were turned into dust. Instead of waiting to die, why not take weapons and join the army to take back our lost land.”
When he finished reading the poem, the others lowered their swords. Jian Liu glanced at the black token hanging on his waist, with the number sixty-six engraved on it.
“You shouldn’t be here. Who send you here?” Jian Liu asked, staring at Liushiliu.
Liushiliu saw the number six engraved on the black token hung on Jian Liu’s waist and knew that he was one of the captains working directly under their master.
He clasped his fists and said, “Captain, the commander sent me to Yunshan Village to investigate a young lady last night and asked me to report the investigation results to you. The commander also gave me your location this morning and said that you would know what to do after you heard my report.”
Jian Liu frowned slightly when he heard Liushiliu’s answer. After thinking for a while, he said, “Go in and talk.”
After saying that, he walked into the cave, followed by Liushiliu and the other secret guards. Jian Liu sat by the bonfire, threw a few branches into the fire, and said, “Speak.”
Liushiliu took out the things he collected from Duan Yixin’s house. He opened the cloth and put the bamboo tubes, leather pouches, and medicinal herbs samples on the ground.
Jian Liu looked at these things on the ground and asked, “What are these?”
There was a hint of excitement in Liushiliu’s voice when he said, “Captain, these are the samples I collected from that young lady’s home.”
After speaking, he opened the leather pouch containing wild mint and handed it to Jian Liu. Jian Liu smelled the wild mint, and Liu Shiliu asked with anticipation in his eyes, “Captain, what did you feel after smelling it?”
Jian Liu felt that his mind had become clearer, and the fatigue that had accumulated these days was slowly disappearing. He handed the leather pouch to the other secret guards and let them smell it. Then, he turned to look at Liushiliu and asked, “What is this?”
Liushiliu shook his head and said, “I don’t know. In addition to those leaves, I also collected many different types of plant samples from that young lady’s house.”
After speaking, he opened the other leather pouches and bamboo tubes and let them take a look.
Jian Liu saw the soil, blue water, and clean water in the bamboo tubes and asked curiously, “Why did you take away the soil and water, too?”
When Liushiliu heard his question, his face became serious. He looked at Jian Liu and said, “Captain, I think you should take a look at this.”
After speaking, Liushiliu took a piece of paper from his sleeve and handed it to Jian Liu. On the paper is a drawing of Duan Yixin’s hydroponic racks, which he made while resting on the road.
Jian Liu opened the piece of paper, looked at it for a moment, and asked, “What is this?”
Liushiliu shook his head and said, “I don’t know, but there is that thing in the young lady’s woodshed. I think that since there are some kind of white pebbles mixed in the soil in those wooden buckets, the soil must have some secret function.”
“Besides the soil, there are two large barrels of water in the woodshed. One is blue water, and the other is clean water. I suspected these water and soil were supposed to work with this weird rack, so I took samples of them.” He said with a frown.
After he finished speaking, the small cave fell into silence. A secret guard codenamed Shiwu looked at Jian Liu and said, “Captain, I think we should investigate this young lady. Since Liushiliu was able to get a lot of samples of herbs that we didn’t recognize. I thought we might be able to find what we needed at her house.”

Another secret guard sitting next to him, codenamed Ershiyi, nodded and said, “Shiwu is right. I think since the commander asked Liushiliu to investigate her, he must have doubts about her. She might be the one who can help us accomplish our mission.”
