Chapter 120: Dealing with the Situation
Aurora vividly recalled Xander mentioning that Victor was now working for him in disguise. But seeing him at Vintage Cellar, congratulating her in front of everyone, felt like an ambush. She couldn’t make sense of why he was there, especially during such a pivotal moment in her career.
Still processing the situation, Aurora caught Olivia’s smirk, the telltale glint of malice sparkling in her eyes. Sensing her sister’s scheme brewing, Aurora braced herself.
Olivia seized the silence to strike, her voice laced with triumph. “Sister, look who I bumped into in the hall, looking for you. Turns out the famous Victor is your friend!”
Aurora’s brows knitted together, her confusion evident. “Friend?” she repeated, her tone sharp, breaking the hush in the room. Turning her full attention to Victor, she asked, “Have I met your acquaintance before?”
Victor cleared his throat, clearly uncomfortable. Before he could respond, Olivia jumped in, her voice filled with fake innocence. “Oh, come on, are you going to deny it now?”
Victor cut her off swiftly, locking his gaze on Aurora. His tone was composed yet apologetic. “Not really. You could say I’m a fan of yours and wanted to personally congratulate you.” He stepped forward, extending the bouquet he held. But Olivia wasn’t done.
“Don’t be shy,” she cooed, her smirk deepening as she addressed Victor. “Tell her you’ve been the one sending her bouquets every Wednesday. I mean, secrets shouldn’t be kept between friends.”
The room buzzed with whispers as the staff exchanged glances, Olivia’s words landing like a bombshell. Aurora’s fists clenched tightly at her sides, her face burning with embarrassment and anger. She hadn’t anticipated such a blatant public spectacle orchestrated by Olivia.
While it was true that she had been expecting a little drama today, it was not to this level.
‘Well played, Olivia,’ she thought bitterly. But she wasn’t about to let Olivia win this round.
Stephanie cleared her throat pointedly, her subtle cue snapping Aurora out of her shock. This was her mess to clean up, and Aurora knew it. Straightening her shoulders, she met Victor’s gaze, her voice icy but controlled.
“Mr. Victor,” she began, her tone cutting through the murmurs like a blade, “I do not appreciate unsolicited gifts at my workplace, especially from someone I do not know. Barging into my office with my sister’s help to congratulate me is both embarrassing and unacceptable. I will consider this harassment and be prepared to let my lawyer handle it.”
The declaration stunned the room into silence, Olivia included. Gasps rippled across the audience as they processed the weight of Aurora’s words.
Olivia quickly recovered, folding her arms and letting out a scoff. “Are you trying to rid yourself of your friend just because you’re ashamed of his reputation as a playboy?”
Aurora’s gaze snapped to Olivia, her fury simmering beneath her poised exterior. She refused to give her the satisfaction of breaking down.
“Olivia,” Aurora said with a warning edge, her voice rising just enough to command attention, “if you don’t stop spouting nonsense and making a fool of yourself, I will sue you for aiding a stalker and compromising my safety.”
Olivia’s smirk faltered, her confidence visibly shaken. Victor, sensing the gravity of the situation, stepped back and muttered a quick apology before leaving the office altogether.
Stephanie took control, stepping forward with an authoritative air. Her sharp tone cut through the awkward silence. “Director Olivia,” she began, her words deliberate, “if you’ve lost the task assigned by your late father, you should acknowledge it gracefully. Stop embarrassing yourself and causing trouble for your sister. As your aunt, I cannot let this continue unchecked.”
Olivia’s cheeks burned with humiliation as the staff whispered amongst themselves. She stormed out of the room without another word, leaving Aurora to breathe a sigh of relief.
—
Back in her office, Olivia slammed the door shut and collapsed into her chair, her emotions threatening to spill over. Anger coursed through her veins as she grabbed her phone and dialled her mother’s number.
“Does your sister like the gift I sent to mark her first day as COO?” Stella greeted with a light chuckle, oblivious to her daughter’s state.
“Can you stop laughing?” Olivia snapped, her voice trembling with rage.
Stella’s amusement faded instantly. “Is something wrong? What happened?”
“Yes! You’re the problem!” Olivia barked, her grip tightening around her phone.
“What do you mean by that?” Stella demanded, her tone defensive but filled with curiosity as she sat upright on the sofa.
“Did you think sending Victor here would solve anything? Instead of dealing with Aurora, you left me to be humiliated! She threatened me in front of everyone, and now I look like an idiot! You can’t even do your job well!”
Stella, caught off guard, struggled to respond. “Olivia, calm down. I didn’t… How did it Aurora—?”
“Save it!” Olivia interrupted, wiping away a single tear that escaped down her cheek. “If you can’t guarantee success with your schemes, then don’t involve me at all or don’t even get started with it in the first place! I don’t need more embarrassment!”

Before Stella could respond, Olivia ended the call and hurled her phone onto her desk. Pounding her fists against the wood, she muttered angrily, “That bitch keeps winning, and I’m the one left picking up the pieces!”
—
Meanwhile, back in her new office, Aurora finally had a moment of peace. The staff had been dismissed, and the celebratory atmosphere had quieted down. She took a moment to admire the space. The decor was exquisite, with modern furnishings, a sleek sitting area, and a private ensuite bathroom.
Aurora pulled out her phone to snap a few pictures and videos, sending them to Xander with a message of gratitude.
But her satisfaction was short-lived as Victor’s stunt came back to her mind. Furrowing her brows, she shot Xander a text.
“Victor came to my office and caused a scene. I thought you were keeping an eye on him. How could this happen?”
Xander’s response came swiftly.
“My eyes are only on you, Sweetheart. Other people’s existence doesn’t matter.”
Aurora rolled her eyes at his playful reply, though it did bring a slight curve to her lips.
“Be serious, Xander. I’m not joking. How could Victor act independently without your knowledge?”
Xander’s delayed response left her staring at her phone, pondering just how far Victor’s actions extended—and whether Xander truly had a handle on the situation.
“I’m sorry, Sweetheart,” Xander’s response carried a rare note of regret over the phone. “Victor was forced to act because Stella had started suspecting him. She noticed he wasn’t following through with her tasks as he used to. He thought this stunt would throw her off.”
Aurora ran her fingers through her hair, exhaling a sharp sigh. The humiliation from Victor’s public stunt still burned her pride.
Even if he was under Stella’s orders, it didn’t excuse his audacity, especially after the liberties he had once tried to take with her. So, she quit sending texts over to Xander and directly phoned him.
