Chapter 137: Doubting The Baby
Xander’s sigh was deep and heavy, his gaze shadowed by the weight of Aurora’s stare. “Sweetheart, we’re different,” he began, his tone low, almost regretful. “I’m trying to protect you. Believe me, loving you is what keeps me human, what stops me from losing myself. You’re the reason I stay sane, and I don’t want to risk you getting hurt in the end.”
Aurora shook her head, frustration flashing in her eyes as she stepped back, creating a small but deliberate distance between them.
“Xander,” she said firmly, her voice tinged with both anger and conviction, “you say that I keep you human, that I stop you from losing yourself. Then shouldn’t you understand? You’re the one who will help me hold onto my morals when I go down the wrong path. Because I won’t sit still anymore.”
Xander nodded reluctantly, realizing that her resolve was unshakable. He had hoped to shield her from the ugly realities of revenge, but it was clear she was ready to face them head-on. Inwardly, he felt a grim sense of relief—perhaps now she would better understand his world, a world he had kept hidden for so long.
Aurora’s expression softened, but the resolve in her voice remained sharp. “Good,” she replied. “Because this isn’t just about finding out who I am anymore. They’ve gone too far, and I won’t let them walk away unscathed.”
Xander’s gaze darkened as he asked, “And what about the Major? Are you planning to confront him?”
Aurora nodded, her voice calm but firm. “I have to. I need to know if he’s aware of who I am or if he’s been pretending all along. I won’t make any assumptions until I hear the truth from him directly.”
Xander studied her, his mind racing with possibilities. “Okay,” he said at last. “But sweetheart note that the Major isn’t simple—he’s sharp, strategic, and far from naive. Let me know when you’re ready.”
Aurora’s shoulders sagged slightly as the weight of her thoughts pressed down on her. She moved toward the bed, sitting down with a tired sigh. The revelations of the evening had drained her, leaving her dizzy and overwhelmed.
Xander followed her, sitting beside her and wrapping an arm around her shoulders, drawing her into his embrace. “Are you okay?” he asked gently, his voice filled with concern.
Aurora chuckled softly, though her smile was hollow. “I don’t know,” she admitted, her gaze distant. “Sometimes, I wish I could turn back time to before I found out any of this. It’s like a part of me has shattered, and no matter what I do, I can’t put it back together.” Her voice wavered slightly, and she pressed a hand to her forehead. “And the rest of my memories… maybe it’s better if they never return.”
Xander tightened his hold on her, pressing a tender kiss to her forehead. “Sweetheart, no matter how broken things feel, we will face it together. You don’t have to carry this alone.”

Meanwhile, Stella’s laughter rang lightly in the dining room of the Major’s modest residence. “Major Walker, your simplicity is admirable,” she said, though her words carried a veiled critique.
Her eyes roamed the room, noting the understated decor that fell far below her expectations. She had imagined grandeur—opulence fitting for a man of his stature. Instead, she found herself surrounded by muted elegance.
The Major’s wife, a stately woman with greying hair styled in a tight bun, smiled subtly. Though her features were plain, she carried herself with the refined grace of an aristocrat. “My husband values simplicity,” she replied, her tone polite but firm. “We don’t believe in excess, no matter how much we’ve achieved.””I see,” Stella said with a forced smile. She quickly shifted gears, her tone becoming warm again. “It’s a shame I didn’t have the chance to meet your son tonight. Perhaps next time.”The Major nodded curtly, his face unreadable. “Perhaps,” he said, his deep voice betraying no emotion.
As the evening wound down, the Major personally walked Stella to her car. “Thank you for saving my son,” he said plainly as she prepared to leave. His words appeared genuine, but his expression remained detached.
“The honour is mine,” Stella replied with a gracious bow. As she climbed into her car, a triumphant smile spread across her lips. Tonight was another step closer to solidifying the alliance she sought.

The Scott Family’s Main Residence
Olivia arrived home, her heels clicking against the polished floors as she ascended the stairs to her bedroom. She carried the two gift bags Aurora had given her, her face glowing with satisfaction from the evening’s accomplishments.
However, her smile vanished the moment she entered the room and saw Owen casually slipping his phone into his pocket. His gaze flicked to her, sharp and unimpressed. “I see you’re back,” he remarked flatly as his eyes lingered on the gift bags.
“And I see you didn’t go clubbing tonight. Shocking,” Olivia retorted, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she dropped her bags on the bed. “What’s next? Developing a conscience?”
“Wrong.” Owen’s lips curled into a cold smirk, turning to face her fully. “My conscience is dead when it comes to you. Don’t flatter yourself into thinking I stayed home for your sake. You mean nothing to me.”
Olivia’s hand clenched at her side, her face twisting with fury as she turned to face him. “What about your child, Owen?” she shot back, her voice trembling with rage.
She placed a hand on her growing belly. “Doesn’t he mean anything to you? You’ve never once asked about him, never bothered to come to a single doctor’s appointment. What kind of father do you plan to be?”
Owen’s cold laughter filled the room, cutting through her anger like a blade. His gaze dropped to her stomach before meeting her eyes. “And how am I sure that child is even mine?”
Olivia’s breath hitched, her lips parting as she stared at him in disbelief. “W-What?” she whispered, her voice barely audible.
