Chapter 25: Her Nightmare
Aurora kept running without looking back or stopping to catch her breath after seeing what she wasn’t supposed to see.
It was no wonder that place was hidden. She regretted letting her curiosity lead her into a scene that would scar her for life.
Aurora followed the secret path and exited Xander’s study before stepping into the hallway leading to the living quarters. She ignored the weird gazes and worried questions from the servants and ran straight to the entrance door where she bumped into the butler.
“Ma’am, is everything okay?” the middle-aged man inquired.
Aurora looked past his shoulder to see the golf car he rode over before moving her gaze to his hand to see the key.
“Let me borrow this for a moment,” she said with a shaky tone. She snatched the key from him and ran down the stairs outside. The butler could only watch as she drove the golf car away.
Unfortunately for Aurora, she hadn’t gotten far when she saw several men in black run over to block her path. There were more than fifteen of them. Her gaze widened in utter disbelief. She hadn’t known that there were that many bodyguards in the vicinity.
“Get out of the way!” She shouted, afraid she would run into any of them with the golf car, but none made an inch to move aside. Instead, they came rushing towards her without fear.
“Get the wheel from her!” One of them instructed and immediately, she was surrounded with nowhere to escape from.
—
Xander sat behind his desk in the study with a dark gaze. And Liam stood on his left side.
Just then, his domestic secretary, Nene knocked twice on the door and helped herself in, carrying a tray of two white warm towels drizzled with antiseptic. She took it straight to Xander who picked one up to wipe the blood stains off his face before using the second one to wipe his hands clean.
Xander tossed both towels on the tray as a soft knock landed on the door. Liam immediately permitted them to enter as Nene stepped to the side.
“Leave me alone!” Aurora struggled between the two men grabbing each of her arms as they brought her into the study.
As soon as Xander saw them, his gaze narrowed. “Get your hands off my wife!” he barked.
The men released Aurora’s arms immediately but refused to take anything more than two steps away from her just in case she attempted to escape again.
Once free, Aurora snapped her gaze to the side, her chest heaving. The moment she sighted those blood-stained towels on the tray, her fear returned, reminding her of the manslaughter Xander had committed. Immediately, she felt sick.
“Why do you want me here?” Aurora asked, her eyes turning teary as she stared at Xander, the corner of her eyes catching the handgun in front of him. She had no idea of his intentions towards her now that she had learned of his secret.
Was he going to kill her too?
“You just killed a man without batting an eye! What do you want with me, Xander?!” Aurora shouted at the top of her voice, hot tears now flowing from her eyes.
Xander let out a sigh and got out of his seat. “First, you weren’t supposed to be sneaking around. Two, those men were your stalkers, and they are dangerous criminals. Thirdly, I want you to continue living here as you have.”
“What? You want me to stay here after you just committed murder? Do you know that it is a criminal offence?” She asked, her entire face contoured in disbelief. She just found out that he had no conscience whatsoever. It was a shocking discovery.
“Xander, you don’t have any right to take a life you didn’t create no matter what! What happened to the police?” she continued.
Xander’s jaw flexed as he closed in on her. “Well, I have every right to end lives I didn’t create as long as they are a menace to society, worth more my own wife.”
Even if Xander was part of the police force or army, he still didn’t have the right to execute those men the way he did.
Realizing the danger she had gotten herself into, Aurora burst into tears. “Please let me go. I can’t take this mess. I need a break from all of this,” she cried, crouching.
Immediately, Xander turned to Nene. “Escort Madam to her room to get some rest. Also, get the doctor to check on her. She just witnessed her husband take a man’s life. She must be traumatized by the scene and will need a few days to recover.”
In one sentence, Xander gave finality to Aurora’s fate.
As Aurora curled up on the queen-sized bed lost in thoughts after the doctor had left, she regretted marrying a man she didn’t know much about.

“I should have listened to Abby,” she wept inconsolably. But as soon as she remembered her best friend, she quickly picked up her phone and texted her.
“Abby, please can you come to this address… now?”
In less than a minute, Abigail’s call came in. Aurora sat up on the bed, wiping her tears, she slid her finger across the screen to take the call.
“Aura, what’s wrong?” Abigail asked, worry laced in her tone.
“N-Nothing, just—.” The rest of Aurora’s response hung in the air as Xander walked into the room.
Instantly, his gaze narrowed seeing her on a call. Without wasting a second, he marched towards the bed and snatched the phone from her hand. Seeing the caller ID, he directly hung up the call.
Xander checked her phone further and saw the text she had sent to Abigail. His expression didn’t look good.
“What the fuck do you think you are doing?” he questioned.
The doctor had informed him that Aurora needed some time off to rest and unfortunately, she couldn’t administer any drip to her on an empty stomach. So, learning that Aurora hadn’t eaten anything yet, he had come to persuade her only to see her on a call.
Without waiting for Aurora’s response, Xander handed the phone back to her and instructed, “Call Abigail back and tell her not to come anymore.”
“I’m not going to do that!” Aurora challenged as she snatched her phone back.
Immediately, Xander grabbed his handgun from his back, forcing her to drop her phone in shock.
“Aurora,” he called in a low dangerous tone, “Call your best friend back and ask her not to come again, and that we have something on otherwise I’m going to blow her fucking brains out if she steps on my land!”
