Chapter 342: No News. No Hope. Then Breakthrough.
~Wing City~
Two Days Later…
Since the time Aurora visited the old couple at their private residence after finding out she was having twins, she had become a frequent visitor, even staying up to a week straight at one point.
With everyone at her beck and call, she had nothing to stress about except for her workload at Vintage Cellar.
But on this very Friday, she took a day off to rest her back.
Aurora was in the sitting room chatting with the old couple about the different types of grapes used in making wines and champagnes when the butlery walked in hurriedly to inform them of the military convoy that just arrived.
“Major walker has requested to meet you both. He says it’s important,” the butler finished.
A subtle frown appeared on Aurora’s forehead as she wondered what the Major was doing here. She didn’t want to think it had anything to do with claiming her as his daughter. It had better not be.
“Let him through,” Old Mr. Scott approved and almost immediately, the butler turned and left.
Aurora stood in the living room, her fingers clenched tightly over her baby bump as Major Walker stepped inside, his expression grim. But as soon as he saw her, a glint of surprise flashed across his eyes.
Old Mr. Scott rose to his feet and shook hands with him, welcoming him in before gesturing for him to sit.
“What is it?” The old man asked as his wife rested her arms on her belly.
The Major hesitated before starting, “I’m sure your son Alexandar has never told you this, but he is a part of Wing City’s government secret…”
Major Walker started by telling the old couple everything they didn’t know about Xander’s involvement in their government’s secret service mission, from his training days and up to this moment, much to their horror.
The old couple were shocked to learn their son hadn’t gone on a business trip like he had told them, but rather had embarked on a life-threatening mission.
Major Walker allowed the old couple to assimilate the news first before continuing and delivering the bomb.
“… There was an ambush. Xander and his best friend, Asher’s aircraft was bombed mid-flight.”
Aurora’s heart stopped immediately as her gaze widened. She believed she heard wrong.
The room fell into stunned silence.
The Major swallowed. “Search teams have been deployed, but… there’s been no sign of survivors.”
Aurora’s knees finally buckled. Luckily, Nene was right beside her, and managed to catch her just in time before helping her to sit on the couch.
The Major’s next words barely registered in their heads.
“Alexander Scott is missing in action.”
Aurora sat frozen. The words echoed in her mind.
‘No. No, this wasn’t real.’
Old Mrs. Scott gasped, clutching her husband’s arm. Old Mr. Scott paled. The entire room seemed to hold its breath.
Aurora’s lips trembled. “You… you’re saying there’s no sign of him?” Her heart was racing hard in her chest.
Major Walker hesitated. “The crash site was engulfed in flames. No bodies have been recovered. Yet.”
Aurora’s nails dug into her palms. “Then he’s alive.”
Major Walker sighed. Seeing Aurora’s condition, he couldn’t bring himself to counter her statement or make the situation any worse.

On the other hand, old Mr. Scott nodded firmly. “We will not assume my son is dead unless there is proof.”
Major Walker exchanged glances with his officers. “We will continue the search, but the odds…” He didn’t finish.
Aurora’s breath hitched. The baby kicked inside her. She gritted her teeth. “Find him!”
At that moment, she didn’t care about her tone or her manners. She wanted her husband found.
The Major briefly glanced at her before turning his gaze to Old Mr. Scott. He bowed his head. “We’re doing everything we can.”
Then, he turned to leave with his soldiers.
The moment the door closed Aurora’s vision blurred with tears.
“He promised me he would come back,” she whispered.
Nene knelt beside her, squeezing her hand. “He will. Sir always keeps his word.” No matter how devastated Nene was about the news, she had to be strong for Aurora.
Aurora shut her eyes, but the sinking weight in her chest wouldn’t leave.
‘Xander, wherever you are… come back to me. And our babies.’
***
Days passed. And there was no news. No bodies. No hope.
Aurora refused to eat. Refused to sleep. She spent every waking moment glued to her phone, waiting for a call that never came.
The Scott family mansion felt hollow. Silent.
Old Mr. Scott had called in every connection, using all resources to search for Xander and Asher. But the answer remained the same.
Missing. Presumed dead.
Aurora clenched her fists as another report came in—negative. She stood abruptly. “I’m going to Arsenal’s headquarters.”
Nene paled. “Ma’am, you’re seven months pregnant.”
Aurora’s eyes burned with resolve. “I don’t care. If they won’t find my husband, I will.”
Old Mrs. Scott grabbed her hand. “You are carrying his children. You must be strong.”
Aurora’s breath hitched. The old lady was right. She had to be strong for Xander and their babies. Still, she couldn’t help thinking about Abigail.
Her best friend was still in the dark about this menacing situation yet, she couldn’t bring herself to say anything to her.
—
Finally, a breakthrough came two days later.
Arsenal received an emergency distress signal—coordinates matching the crash site. A rescue team was deployed immediately.
At the other end, Aurora clutched her phone, heart pounding as she waited for news. Then, the call came.
“They found survivors.”
Aurora’s vision blurred. “What about my husband, Xander Scott?”
There was a pause from the other end before the voice reached her ears again.
“He is amongst the survivors. But he’s in critical condition.”
Aurora stifled a cry as Nene sat beside her, her composure completely lost.
“Where is he?” Aurora demanded shortly after recovering.
“Being airlifted to Arsenal’s private medical facility.”
Aurora ended the call and turned to Nene almost immediately. “Take me there,” she ordered.
“But Ma’am—”
“I said take me there!”
Within minutes, the entire Scott family was informed of the good news and were immediately en route.
—
At Arsenal’s Medical Base—
Xander lay unconscious, hooked to machines. Asher, with a broken arm and leg, sat beside him, looking rough but awake.
Aurora rushed in, tears spilling over as she took in Xander’s still form.
“Darling,” she whispered, clutching his hand. “Wake up. Please,” she said, but no response came.
The doctor came in at this moment along with the old couple and Owen’s parents.
“He’s in a deep coma. We don’t know when he will wake up,” the doctor informed.
“He has to,” Aurora interrupted, voice shaking. Then she leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead.
“You promised me forever,” she murmured. “So don’t you dare break that promise.”
After giving Aurora her moment, Xander’s parents stepped forward to get a close look at him and also speak to him.
