Chapter 50: The Truth That Cut Deep
Seeing that she was serious about leaving and never coming back from the determination in her eyes, Adam knew there was a huge problem. His mind raced, the tension in the room, suffocating.
Just as Aurora lifted her bag, Adam’s voice cracked through the silence. “Fine! I’m not your biological father.”
The words hit Aurora like a punch to the chest. Her backpack slipped from her shoulder, tumbling onto the bed and bouncing off the other side. Everything around her blurred. Slowly, she turned to face him, her heart clenching painfully.
“So, my visions are correct? You are not my father.” Her voice broke as tears streamed down her face as the truth was reconfirmed.
Adam’s gaze softened, but his words did little to comfort her. “I’m still your father. Your mother and I were married. I gave you my name, raised you as mine. I’ve always been your father, Aurora.”
Aurora shook her head, her voice a barely audible whisper. “It’s not the same.” The betrayal gnawed at her insides, and the man she had once believed to be her protector now felt like a stranger.
“What happened to my memories? Did you have anything to do with their suppression?” Her eyes blazed with anger through the haze of her tears.
Adam exhaled slowly, rubbing his temples. The weight of the truth bore down on him too. “Yes. Your mother wanted it.”
Aurora’s heart twisted at his admission, her mind spiralling. She didn’t even want to know the reasons. They weren’t important. What mattered was the web of lies that had been spun around her entire life. She swallowed hard, her throat tight. “Who is my biological father?”
Adam’s silence was deafening. “I’m sorry, but I can’t give you any information about him.”
Aurora’s frustration reached its boiling point. She turned away, grabbing her head with both hands as if she could physically hold herself together. When she finally faced him again, her eyes were bloodshot, her voice trembling. “Why are you doing this to me?” Her words dripped with anguish. “You lied to me… my entire life!”
“I swore to your mother to protect you and I’m not about to undo it for that piece of information.” Adam stared at her, helpless at her situation.
This wasn’t how today was supposed to go. Aurora wasn’t supposed to find out about any of this, but what was he supposed to do now?
On one hand, was the oath he took before the one woman he has always loved and on the other hand was the daughter she entrusted to him, whom he raised by himself after she passed. He was in a dilemma.
“You won’t even tell me who my biological father is?” Aurora ruffled her hair. She looked like a total mess now. “This means he is alive,” she said to Adam, piecing the puzzle. “It looks like I’m going to have to find him myself.”‘
Panic flashed in Adam’s eyes. “Aurora, please don’t do that.” He reached out, but she recoiled, taking a step back.
“Don’t tell me what to do!” Aurora shouted as her breathing hitched. Feeling the tightness in her chest, she clutched it, eyes still on him. “You deceived me all my life! I don’t care if my mum put you to it! You betrayed me!”
Adam released a deep breath. Aurora’s face didn’t look good. At this point, he was more worried about how she was taking all the information and not how she saw him.
Aurora was suffocating in her grief, in her fury. “How can I ever believe you again?” she gasped, gesturing wildly. “You were the first man I trusted… and now look at what you’ve done! You’ve turned my whole life upside down!”
Suddenly, her legs gave out beneath her as she collapsed to the floor, gasping for air. She suffered another panic attack.
“Aurora!” Adam’s voice cracked as he rushed to her side, his hands trembling as he tried to hold her. But she struggled against him, her face flushed, her breath shallow.
“Let me go!” she screamed, her body shaking violently. “Even if I’m dying, don’t help me!” Her voice was raw, a reflection of the pain tearing her apart inside.
“Stop talking and breathe!” Adam ordered, his own voice breaking as he adjusted her position, trying desperately to calm her. All that mattered was that she would be okay.
Aurora’s breathing slowly steadied after what felt like an eternity. But her face was pale, her body still trembling from the emotional storm.
Aurora insisted on leaving after catching her breath, but how could Adam let her go seeing the emotional wreck she was? Knowing she wasn’t going to listen to him, he ordered people to keep an eye on her and not let her leave her room.
“You can’t keep me locked here!” Aurora barked with her tear-stained face. “I’m going to hate you forever!”
Adam paused, standing at the door, his back to her. He spoke softly, his voice laden with sorrow. “I don’t mind if you hate me, Aurora… as long as you’re safe.”
Aurora let out a blood-curdling scream as the door clicked shut. She grabbed anything within reach and hurled it across the room. Glass shattered as the mirror broke, the sound echoing her own brokenness.

She tore through her room, wrecking everything she could get her hands on until exhausted, she collapsed to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.
“What did I do so wrong to deserve this?” she cried, her body curling into itself as the sobs wracked through her.
Right outside the door, Adam stood with his head bowed, wiping away a tear. He turned to the butler beside him. “If she continues like this, she’s going to make herself sick. Call the doctor.”
Half an hour later, the doctor arrived, but Aurora refused to let him near her. The grief was too raw, the betrayal too deep, so much that she didn’t care about herself.
When Adam learned she refused to see the doctor, he helplessly dismissed him and ordered the servants to clean the room, removing every sharp object. He feared she might hurt herself in her fragile state.
Meanwhile, Olivia sat on the balcony with her mother, sipping tea. She could hear Aurora’s screams from her room, each one sending a chill down her spine.
“Mum, Aurora has never acted like this before,” Olivia said, her voice edged with fear.
Stella didn’t even look up from her magazine. “She’s never been hurt this deeply. This is normal. At least she hasn’t killed herself yet,” she sneered.
“Mum… I’m scared Dad might tell her the truth,” Olivia whispered, panicking.
Finally, Stella looked at her, a calm smirk playing on her lips. “He won’t. The fact that she’s throwing a tantrum means he refused to tell her. He took an oath, and he’ll keep it.”
Stella’s confidence was unnerving, but she was sure of one thing—Aurora wouldn’t be finding out anything about her biological father any time soon, allowing her the opportunity to conclude her plans.
