Chapter 117: Chapter 117 – A bargaining chip
Adam wanted the beta position, so with Alessia out of the way, he would just have to prove himself to Alpha Denzel that he was the right candidate for a beta.
“Alright, take her to a safe place and send me the location,” Alpha Conrad reluctantly gave in. What if those men in black were still around? He couldn’t help being afraid.
“I’m close to a hotel, so I would book a room and send you the address.”
“Okay. Thank you,” Alpha Conrad said. With Alessia, he could have firsthand information on Alpha Denzel, so this should be a merry moment for him. Troy was uneasy, knowing that Alessia had been kidnapped. He wanted a way to play his role fast for Alpha Denzel to play his part.
“Alpha, is there a problem? Please let me come with you.” He tried getting out of bed when Alpha Conrad stopped him.
“You are injured. You should rather rest.”
“Okay, so where are you going?” Troy asked, faking worry in his eyes. Alpha Conrad had no idea that he heard everything already, saying,
“Don’t worry. I’m not coming back anytime soon. You should try to take care of the pack in my absence.”
A small smile, unnoticed by Alpha Conrad, stretched his lips. “Yes, Alpha.” Since he already had the password to the safe, all he had to do was get Alpha Denzel’s money to Godic, who was still around the pack.
Seems like luck was on his side for Alpha Conrad to leave him at a time like this. Alpha Conrad arrived at the hotel and saw the frail woman on the bed. She looked sickly because of the silver.
“Alessia, wake up!”
He pulled a chair and sat beside her by the bedside, watching as she woke up drowsily. The pain from the silver burns was gone, but her wolf was still weak, and she paled from it.
“What am I doing here? Who are…Alpha Conrad.”
“Alessia.”
“How did I get here? Where is Adam?” Alessia asked, her head pounding from being drained so much. Alpha Conrad didn’t want to tell her that he already sent Adam away since he was not willing to keep his promise to the latter.

Unlike Alpha Denzel, Alpha Conrad was rather cunning in his selfish dealings. He planned to drop Alessia close to the Evergreen pack, and she could continue the rest of the journey on her own.
“It doesn’t matter how you got here, but you can either choose between being tortured to death or working for me,” Alpha Conrad proposed heartlessly. It was a miracle for him to change his mind about what he wanted to do to Alessia before.
“I don’t get it,” Alessia feigned innocence, knowing how worried Alpha Denzel would be. He already lost so much, sacrificing for them to be away from each other. If anything happened to Alessia, she knew Alpha Denzel would take all the blame and would never be the same again.
“You are the beta of the Evergreen pack, and I need your help,” Alpha Conrad said seriously. Alessia was beginning to have the clarity of mind that Adam was among the spies working with Alpha Conrad.
She never suspected it before, and now, she was also realizing that Alpha Denzel’s greatest enemy was his once bosom friend.
“With what?” She pretended to be innocent.
“Just update me on Alpha Denzel’s movements and his relationship with Valerie. Also, you can move money to my trusted allies before sending the rest to the safe.”
Alessia understood how Adira was trapped to work for the likes of Alpha Conrad, but she trusted her brother and understood his reason for being openly hard on Valerie. The enemy was too close; any wrong movement would have endangered Valerie’s life.
Now, Alessia was the target because she was given Adira’s position. Sure, it made it look like she was the loved one, which of course she was, but not the way people thought.
“What makes you think that I would do it, and why do you want Luna Valerie?”
Alpha Conrad did not want to waste time explaining what he wanted with Luna Valerie, as he still feared those men in black being in the shadows. Luna Valerie was strong and would make a great partner.
“Do you love Alpha Denzel so much to die for him?” Alpha Conrad asked menacingly. Alessia scoffed. If she exposed her relationship with Alpha Denzel, that would only put her at a greater risk.
“Alpha Denzel? Why would I like a cold monster like him? I just love to work with him because he’s a good leader,” she shrugged indifferently. It wasn’t the first time she pretended to hate her brother anyway.
“Is that a good reason for him to choose you over Adira?” Alpha Conrad asked, not believing there was nothing between the two. His spies in the packhouse mentioned Alessia going to Alpha Denzel’s room and vice versa.
“I don’t know his reasons, but we have no attachments. He naturally likes female betas because he doesn’t have a Luna,” Alessia said, just as Alpha Denzel had told her.
Alpha Conrad felt like he just had a fresh revelation. All along, he thought there was something special between those two, but it didn’t seem so. “I see. If that be that case, then it should not be hard for you to work for me.”
Alessia forced a smile to prove she was on his side. “What do I gain from working for you?”
Alpha Conrad loved her resolve, saying, “Well, you can become the first female Alpha of the Evergreen pack after I take down Alpha Denzel.”
Alessia scoffed internally, but her fake smile remained on her face. “That sounds like a good plan, but can you take him down? I won’t want to bet on a weak Alpha.”
Her demeanor made Alpha Conrad believe that she was indeed ready to betray her Alpha, even when he didn’t have something big to bait her with. Then again, death was equally a great bait.
“Don’t worry about how I take him down. I already have a lot of people working with me.”
“Who are those people?” Alessia asked, interested in rooting out all the rotten pack members. “I have to know how safe I am for Alpha Denzel to not be suspicious.”
Alpha Conrad nodded his head but wanted to test her a little. “I would only share that information with you after you prove yourself worthy.”
Alessia was glad to have something of importance to help Alpha Denzel with, asking, “How am I supposed to do that?”
“Tell me Luna Valerie’s whereabouts, and I would trust you,” Alpha Conrad said without a blink.
