Alpha Denzel’s fingers wrapped around her chin as he lifted her head to meet his gaze, asking, “Don’t you get it?”

Valerie looked lost but didn’t try to free herself from his grip, eager to understand his words. When he confessed, she felt a shiver run down her spine. “You are mine. Anyone who wants you would have to kill me first.”

His unwavering gaze confirmed the seriousness of his words. Everyone was shocked except for Alessia, who had later learned her brother’s reason for being mean to Valerie before.

The possessiveness in Alpha Denzel’s words instilled fear in those not even in Valerie’s shoes. This confession left Valerie in fear, musing with unanswered questions, but before she could speak, Alpha Denzel spoke threateningly.

“I will allow you to call this Ryker from wherever he is. If he kills me, then he can have you and the pack.”

A tear fell from Valerie’s eyes, but before it could drop to her cheek, Alpha Denzel wiped it away. It pained him to see her cry, but not everything could be said in public. The rest would have to wait for the privacy of the bedroom when they returned to the packhouse.

Valerie felt saddened and guilty to have put Ryker into trouble. she could have just allowed Alpha Denzel to do was he pleased until she returned and contacted Ryker.

Now, she had exposed him and Alpha Denzel did not seem kind about it. “If he lied to you, then he isn’t worth your tears. Take a seat,” he said in a whisper.

Valerie couldn’t believe that Ryker had lied to her. He must have some explanation for his actions, as his words sounded genuine.

There were no chairs, so she sat in a corner close to Alessia. The latter wrapped her arm around her as Alpha Conrad sneered in annoyance.

“You are letting her go? She’s seeing someone, which means she’s been fucking him.”

He couldn’t bear that Valerie had fallen in love with someone and was willing to die for him. Alpha Denzel’s expression was blank as he turned to Valerie and asked, “Have you?”

She shook her head, didn’t utter a word, and avoided his gaze. But Alpha Denzel surprised everyone by saying, “I believe you.”

The dust began to clear from their eyes. Alpha Denzel had believed from the start that Valerie was innocent, but one question remained unanswered. If he knew all this, then what was his reason for rejecting her?

He had just confessed that she was his. The way he said it made the she-wolves jealous of Valerie. Everyone wanted to be in her shoes, but she wanted to run, leaving her shoes behind.

“I am no longer interested. Can you let me go? My pack needs me,” Alpha Farell said. He wasn’t a fool. It was clear that Alpha Denzel was in love with Valerie, but his response shocked everyone.

“No. For as long as you considered her as your mate, you owe me a fight,” he declared, and the five Alphas took steps back. It was as if they were going on a suicide mission. Alpha Farell shook his head, knowing Alpha Denzel’s strength.

Even among Alphas, Alpha Denzel was an Alpha among Alphas with the strength he possessed. Perhaps they stood a chance if they went against him together, but this was equally his pack.

“No. I’m no longer interested,” Alpha Farell refused, not caring that he was shaming himself and his pack by running away from a fight.

“Farell, you are an Alpha. Do you not stand by your words?” Alpha Denzel asked mockingly.

Alpha Farell saw a loophole and decided to capitalize on it. “Fine. If I win, then I’m taking her away.”

Alpha Denzel had said that Valerie was his, meaning that these Alphas didn’t stand a chance. But from the look of things, a new opportunity had arisen, and Alpha Farell could seize the chance to make Alpha Denzel eat back his words.

“Deal. Burke, bring the weapons,” Alpha Denzel instructed, leaving everyone aghast. It seemed he had everything planned and had already dug a hole for all these Alphas. He was just watching them fall into the holes he had dug, one by one.

Burke went to the changing room and brought out different weapons: knives, ropes, chain sticks, whips, batons, bows and arrows, sickles, swords, and many more. The five Alphas were fearful. The only weapon missing was a gun, which was Alpha Conrad’s favorite.

“Pick a weapon,” Alpha Denzel said to Alpha Farell, but Alpha Conrad already felt uneasy, halting everything.

“Wait, there are no guns?”

Alpha Denzel scoffed. He wasn’t willing to risk his warriors’ lives. “Guns are dangerous. Someone could die from a stray bullet. These are the safest weapons.”

“I’ll take the sword,” Alpha Farell said, knowing that Alpha Denzel was not skilled with the sword since no one had seen him fight with one before. To their amazement, Alpha Denzel chose the rope.

“Aren’t you supposed to pick the sword?” Alpha Farell sounded frustrated. Alpha Denzel smirked.

“You picked yours, and I get to pick mine.” The sound of his authoritative voice was enough to make anyone bow to his instructions.

It had been a while since Valerie had watched a duel, and knowing this was because of her, she couldn’t bear to watch.

“Can I go back to the changing room?” She asked pleadingly, but Alpha Denzel glared at her. How could she not watch? Alpha Denzel had a barbaric side to him but never cared to hide it. It was just in his animalistic nature, due to his Alpha wolf.

“Don’t be mean, Val. This fight is because of you. This is what would happen to any man who dares to look at you,” he said in a warning tone. Valerie feared for what would happen to Ryker. She couldn’t meet Alpha Denzel’s eyes.

With Alpha Denzel’s attention on Valerie, Alpha Farel saw an opportunity. He threw the sword without warning, and Valerie, sitting on the maple wood floor facing Alpha Denzel, yelled.

“Behind you.”

Alpha Denzel didn’t turn around as Valerie expected but frowned slightly as blood dripped.
