Valerie couldn’t help but notice the change in Alpha Denzel’s demeanor. “What’s wrong?”

Alpha Denzel responded through the mind link. ‘Have him wait at the gate. Alessia will come and meet him.’

Seeing Alpha Denzel’s eyes roll back, Valerie was slightly annoyed. “I told them not to disturb you. If anything, Alessia can handle it.”

Alpha Denzel shook his head, relieved that this matter had reached him before it was too late. “It’s not that simple. Another Alpha is here to claim you as his. Please get me Alessia.”

Valerie stiffened slightly before regaining her composure. Why won’t these men leave her alone?

“She’s right outside the door,” Valerie replied before raising her voice. “Ales.” Alessia entered with Godic, Burke, and Gandolf. Alpha Denzel was pleased to see all the people he wanted to see.

“Good, you’re all here. Come over, Ales.” Alessia approached and embraced him. Godic was even more apprehensive. Alessia’s bond with her brother was strong, so how would he fit in?

Alpha Denzel whispered something in her ear. Alessia frowned and glanced at Valerie before he added, “Go with Burke.”

“Sure,” Alessia responded and gestured to Burke. “Come with me.”

Godic was confused as Alessia didn’t even look at him. She was the one who had come to get him at his family’s house and had been affectionate towards him until now. She had even brought gifts for his parents and siblings.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to handle it?” Valerie asked. Alpha Denzel shook his head. He feared charms because of the seductive spirits and hadn’t forgotten the warning about them turning Valerie against him.

He would never allow her to face Alpha Kendrick alone. “It’s not safe for you. Godic, Gandolf, help me into the woods,” he said, determined to regain his strength.

This time, he was determined to rid himself of these seductive spirits once and for all. “Do you want me to come along?” the doctor asked, confused about all the discussions going on. He was there but everything they said, sounded strange.

Alpha Denzel shook his head. Valerie grabbed a few clothes and followed them.

Godic and Gandolf each took one of Alpha Denzel’s arms and helped him walk into the woods, as there were hospital staff and a few pack members at the hospital.

It was already uncomfortable for Alpha Denzel for anyone to see him like this. He couldn’t even feel his legs, so they used Gandolf’s car until they reached the thickets of the woods where the car couldn’t go any further.

“Val can take it from here,” Alpha Denzel said when the car stopped. He hoped that his shift would trigger her wolf and wanted her there, but Godic wasn’t comfortable with the arrangement.

“Alpha, please let me carry you inside. You might be too heavy for her,” Godic suggested. Alpha Denzel didn’t refuse, so Godic lifted him from the car onto his shoulder.

Gandolf waited by the car as they walked deeper into the thickets before Godic returned and said, “Let’s go check on Alessia.” He was worried because of how she had left without saying anything.

At the gate, Alpha Kendrick was growing impatient. He had waited for almost thirty minutes for Alessia to arrive without Valerie.

“Beta Alessia, I only came for my Luna. She is my mate.”

The mention of Luna and mate on Alpha Kendrick’s lips repulsed Alessia. Alpha Kendrick was a respected Alpha, but the way he presented himself made Alessia’s respect for him diminish.

She knew it was impossible for Valerie to be mated to anyone because she didn’t have her wolf. She could only fall in love naturally.

“How can anyone feel the bond over two hundred kilometers away?” she asked sarcastically, making Alpha Kendrick uncomfortable. But the only hope he had was the bond.

He knew that if he saw Valerie, Alessia would be shocked. “If you doubt it, then let me see Luna Valerie. She can confirm it.”

Alessia’s expression was unwelcoming as she stood in front of her car, facing Alpha Kendrick, who stood beside his car.

“I didn’t say I doubt it, but you forgot our pack rules. No one comes here without prior notice.”

Alpha Kendrick remembered that the Evergreen pack had strict rules. Well, they weren’t so strict. Apart from close allies, Alpha Denzel wouldn’t just barge into any pack unannounced unless he was there to attack them.

“I’m sorry about that, but I’m already here,” Alpha Kendrick said with remorse, hoping that Alessia would make an exception.

Only Alpha Denzel couldn’t be reasoned with, but it couldn’t be the same with Alessia, right?

“Well, you can’t see her today. She is quite busy, so let’s just say you used today to book an appointment. You can see her at the same time tomorrow,” Alessia said after careful consideration. Alpha Kendrick was greatly upset.

“What insolence! I am an Alpha, for crying out loud.” His voice raised, and Alessia glared at him. Burke realized he didn’t have to do anything as Alessia behaved sixty percent like Alpha Denzel.

“Of your pack. I am the beta of this pack, so my authority at the moment is higher than yours,” Alessia pointed out. Alpha Kendrick’s title was only valid within his pack, not hers.

Alpha Kendrick relented as another thought crossed his mind. Even if he had to wait, he would definitely see Valerie at the packhouse.

“Fine. I will stay in the packhouse until I see her tomorrow.”

Alessia forced a smile. That was the right thing to do, but Alpha Denzel’s instructions had put her in a difficult position.

“That’s another problem. We weren’t expecting you, so no arrangements have been made for you. I’m sorry, but you’ll have to stay in a hotel nearby until then.”

The color drained from Alpha Kendrick’s face as he realized he wouldn’t even be allowed into the packhouse. “You…”

“Be careful with your choice of words, Alpha Kendrick,” Alessia warned, anticipating the curse words he was about to use. Then she made her stance clear.
