Chapter 237: Chapter 237 – Greater than the pain of a first shift
“Break it down for me,” Valerie said to Astrid, grateful that Alpha Denzel had requested something to prolong Alice’s unconsciousness.

She knew Astrid was not bringing good news. Due to her connection to the ethereal realm, she seemed to be the bearer of bad news.

“You can have an heir after I possess you, but once you discover that you are pregnant, you must never shift.”

Astrid was speaking quickly this time, as the moon was nearing full. She needed to take her position before the transformation became impossible.

Valerie had mixed feelings. If a war broke out during her pregnancy, she would not hold back with a powerful wolf at her disposal.

This condition seemed absurd to her in order to give Alpha Denzel an heir. “What will happen if I do shift?”

“You will suffer a miscarriage,” Astrid replied bluntly. The clock was ticking, and Alpha Denzel was driving beyond the approved speed limit.

“But will I be able to get pregnant again?” Valerie asked hopefully. If that option was available, it would influence her decision.

Astrid’s response was once again heartbreaking. “No. You only have one chance.”

Most people had the opportunity to have many children, but in Valerie’s case, it was considered a miracle since Alpha females were not expected to bear children.

“Okay. I will accept it.”

Thinking that would be the end, Astrid had more to say. “There is something else.”

“What is it?” Valerie was already agitated, as Astrid never brought good news. The conditions attached to everything concerning Valerie and Denzel were depressing.

“After the transformation, I will no longer have any form of communication with the ethereal world and will also forget everything I have ever told you.”

Valerie was saddened. Every piece of information Astrid provided was crucial, but now it would come to an end.

Her role would be like that of any other wolf, and she would no longer appear in the mirror to speak audibly with her.

Astrid’s voice lowered as if she was trying to hide something from Alpha Denzel, but she still spoke quickly.

“What would happen if he does?” Valerie asked instantly, temporarily forgetting the urgency of reaching the pack before the full moon.

“He would fall to his death,” Astrid revealed. Valerie was speechless but also knew that if she refused, she would not be able to bear an heir for the pack.

“I don’t accept,” Alpha Denzel answered, drawing attention to himself. No one knew he was even paying attention to the conversation due to his speeding.

Valerie was about to object when he explained, “Our nature would not allow him to stay away from cliffs. You are indirectly telling us that the child we are going to have would be taken away from us.”

Alpha Denzel pointed out the hidden meaning in Astrid’s words. He disliked how the ethereal realm constantly played with his emotions.

“You have the opportunity to reject me and have a normal child,” Astrid said politely, slightly afraid.

There was something about Alpha Denzel that made him intimidating. The ethereal realm even feared him because of the power his words carried.

This was why she was sent to deliver the message to Valerie, but she did not expect Alpha Denzel to take control of the situation.

“No. You are a part of her, and just like any other pack and family, we will still have a normal child,” he declared firmly.

Astrid’s voice lowered even more, but both Valerie and Alpha Denzel could hear her clearly. “I’m sorry, but that option is non-existent.”

Even though communicating through a rearview mirror, a glare from Alpha Denzel made her cower slightly.

“It’s not up to you. We make our own rules,” Alpha Denzel declared seriously. Astrid feared that Valerie would have false hope as the matter had already been settled.

“I’m afraid you will regret this, and I don’t have the opportunity to convey this message to the moon goddess. The transformation is about to begin.”

She fled as she could not withstand Alpha Denzel’s anger, with her image disappearing from the rear-view mirror.

Alpha Denzel said to Valerie, who was momentarily lost in thought, “Call Burke to meet us at the gate with a car.”

Valerie regained her composure, her heart warmed as she had momentarily forgotten about Alice. She already knew that Burke meeting them was to get Alice to the hospital on time.

Valerie felt strange and uncomfortable in the car. The most suitable place for her now should be in the woods.

She quickly dialed Burke’s number and relayed the information hastily. “Meet us at the pack gate now. Use a car.”

The closer they got to the pack, the greater discomfort Valerie felt. Burke was at the gate with his car before Alpha Denzel arrived and unlocked the back door. “Take her to the hospital now.”

Burke was spellbound for a moment, and Alpha Denzel grew impatient, about to repeat the instruction before he snapped out of his daze and began to unbuckle Alice.

As soon as he carried her out of the car, Alpha Denzel stepped on the accelerator without waiting for him to close the door. The moon was full, and a shrill cry tore through Valerie’s throat, the cracking of her bones already audible.

This transformation was more painful than the first time she shifted for her Luna wolf. Gray fur began to appear on her skin, and Alpha Denzel quickly unlocked the door and unbuckled her seatbelt.

He was parked in the middle of the pack and had to run around to open the door for her. As soon as she got her freedom, she dashed out of the car and headed into the woods, her clothes tearing as her size increased.
