Knowing Alessia’s temper, Godic held her hand comfortingly, and Alessia relaxed instantly.

“Denzel’s wife,” Godic replied after Alessia calmed down, but she suddenly got furious at the confirmation that Aurora thought Valerie was bad luck.

If not for Godic, she would have punched Aurora in the face and could not understand his reason for restricting her.

He should be equally upset that someone dared to badmouth his Luna like this. Godic whispered in her ear, “she is Lisa’s elder sister.”

Alessia stiffened slightly. No wonder the girl had the guts. Momentarily, Alessia was deflated, her mood dulled as the understanding settled that Denzel was showing Aurora kindness because of the late Lisa.

“Don is not here, so you are even addressing him by his first name? I should call to inform him.” Aurora was acting as if she was Denzel’s wife.

She dialed the number. It went through, but Denzel did not answer it. Then she tried the second and the third time. It was the same. Deflated, she lamented. “He’s not answering my call.”

Godic was getting annoyed by her behavior and spoke sternly. “Then you are not important to him. Now, Alessia would be heading the branches and would be stationed at the finance office.”

It was not only Aurora now, but Cordelia also equally disapproved. “Godic, what are you trying to do?” Cordelia asked, displeased with his words.

There were rumors that Godic was trying to covet Don Denzel’s business and assets, but Cordelia did not want to believe it before. Now she did.

“I beg your pardon?” Godic was surprised that Cordelia, a woman whom he recommended to work for Denzel when she graduated from college and could not find a job, was talking so harshly to him.

By then, she had approached Godic, begging for a few dollars to buy herself a meal. Before recovering from the shock, another one added to it.

“Don is not well, so you want to steal from the company by bringing this woman here. I am informing HR.”

Godic watched with stun when Cordelia made the call, and it was not up to two minutes before the HR Manager arrived. Seeing another woman, Alessia was in a bad mood.

The HR manager, Lordina, was professionally dressed in a trouser suit, but her looks were coated with arrogance.

“Why does Denzel hire so many women?” Alessia could not hold back the question stemming through her mind.

Godic never liked working with these bossy females as well, but Denzel had the final say.

“Isn’t he your brother? You should ask him when you get the chance,” he shrugged. Lordina ignored Alessia and stared Godic in the eyes.

“Godic, where is Don?” It was hard to miss the rudeness in her voice, but Godic expected this, so he was calm.

Most people would put on good behaviors when Denzel was around. If their intentions were purely based on protecting the business, he wouldn’t mind, but they were rather far from it.

“He’s fine but would not be here for a while.”

Lordina sighed with relief, needing a few days to complete what Don Viggo contracted her to do. Once it’s done, she would stop working and live the rest of her life from one vacation to the other.

She was already informed that Don Denzel was now physically challenged and would not be returning anymore. Godic must have also been here to loot away the goodies in the company since he knew a lot.

“I hope you understand how hard it is for me to believe what you are saying. It would be better for you to stay away for a while. Everyone says you want to take over everything,” Lordina said proudly, as if the company was hers.

Godic guessed it was because of those three dons. Just as planned, they did not only return but shamelessly tried to even steal from Don Denzel.

Godic did not show any signs of knowing what they did but already planted enough spies around them.

No matter where they go and what they do, Godic would relay their whereabouts to his boss and brother-in-law.

“He put me in charge, and I have to report to him. For now, his sister, Alessia, would be taking charge of all the branches but would be situated at the finance office.”

Lordina’s expression changed. Covering the fears in her eyes with hardness, she scoffed. “Godic, such tricks are beneath you. What have you done to Don?”

“It’s more like who have you conspired with in his absence? You were not expecting his return, and you are afraid for Alessia to check the records. Trust me, she’s very good at it.”

Godic did not hide it anymore, and the expression on Lordina’s face said it all. He was just away for a few days, and things went out of hand.

Seemed that not only those dons were going to pay, but some of Denzel’s employees as well. Whoever said that women could not be bought over must have miscalculated.

Lordina was now a traitor, and Godic could smell it all around her. Trusting Alessia’s skills in both fighting and management, he had nothing to fear at all.

“You. If I don’t see Don, I would not allow you access to anything. I will call the cops,” Lordina yelled.

She was trying to scare Godic away, but even that did not seem to be working. The level of disappointment Godic felt in knowing that someone like Lordina had been bought was very painful.

“Please do or my boys can do a better job. Something fishy is going on here,” Godic challenged, Alessia’s brows raised questioningly. It seemed that betrayals were not only found among the packs but also humans.

Lordina was afraid but kept hanging on to Don Viggo’s words that Godic left to conspire on how to steal Don Denzel’s money. Now he returned and was requesting access to the accounts for his wife.

“If we don’t see Don, nobody would be arrested unless you have a good lawyer with all the requisite documents.” Lordina folded her arms to her chest, not willing to give in.
