Valerie beamed and sat beside her hospital bedside. It was good that Burke got a private room for her, using the Alpha’s orders.

There were things Valerie had to know before deciding if Alice should be kept in the Evergreen pack.

“Over here, lies aren’t permitted,” Valerie said in an amused tone, Alice’s eyes met with that of Alpha Denzel and she cowered.

The swelling and redness on her face were all gone but the wound at her back was yet to heal.

“You don’t have to be afraid of me, Alice but I have a feeling that this isn’t your real eye color.”

Valerie stared at Alpha Denzel. “What are you talking about?”

Alice lay on her side because of the pain from the wound and Burke was equally interested in what his Alpha had just discovered.

He loved these blue eyes from the moment he laid eyes on them but now, it seemed that Alice was hiding something.

“It’s true,” Alice said in a whisper. Most people around the packs never wore contact lenses so Valerie was at a loss.

“What is true?”

Alice could not lie to her and was ready to understand if her presence would cause problems for Valerie.

“Alpha Kenderick gave me these contact lenses as gifts. He said when it’s time for me to go outside the pack, I should not forget to use them.”

“Is there anything wrong with your eyes?” Alpha Denzel asked, Alice could not hold his gaze and stared at Valerie.

“I can take them off but my eyes are scary without them.” Alice was so pitiful but Valerie chuckled and encouraged her.

“Alice, you have to love yourself no matter your looks. Don’t let the pack’s definition of beauty define you. Everyone is unique.”

Alice was afraid that Valerie misunderstood her. It was considered a curse for anyone to have her condition. At least that was what she heard from Alpha Kenderick and Ava.

“Luna Valerie, you don’t understand.” She tried to lift herself to a sitting position and Burke quickly helped her as if they communicated in any way.

Alpha Denzel’s gaze lingered on Burke. As a sensitive person, he felt that Burke deserved a warning but this was not something he could do in front of Alice.

Removing her contact lenses, Valerie was confused. “You have heterochromia so what is wrong with that?”

Alice felt strange. “Luna Valerie, Alpha Kenderick and Ava said it was a curse.”

Valerie shook her head. “No, it isn’t. They are just ignorant. Few people have this condition. You are the first I have seen but I read about it before.”

Alice was overjoyed. Her eye color was one of her biggest fears but now, they were all gone. Burke chimed. “In my opinion, I liked the blue eyes which I just realized to be fake.”

Alice’s excitement waned but soon picked up again when he added. “I’m rather mesmerized by this heterochromia thing.”

Alpha Denzel could not take it anymore. Walking out, said to Burke, “Burke, let’s talk outside the ward.”

Burke followed him with a confused expression as Alpha Denzel suddenly said, “She’s just 16 Burke, I hope it’s not what I am thinking.”
