Chapter 374: Chapter 374 – How can I be sure that I can trust you?
Everyone was gathered in front of the pack house to welcome Alpha Lawn, but only sorrow laced their faces.

It was not because they were sad to see him, but rather because of what they did to Luna Valerie, blinded but Tritan and Scarlet’s scheme.

Even if it wasn’t directly them, it happened right in this pack, and they should have intervened, which they did not.

What happened to Luna Valerie, could have as well happened to any of them and yet, no one stood up for each other.

“Alpha, you are welcome back,” Beta Hugo said, but Alpha Lawn’s expression was cold.

“I heard that Tristan made you the beta, but do you deserve it?” Alpha Lawn asked. Beta Hugo lowered his head, not knowing if it was a trick question.

The pack members were more surprised to see Luna Alma in her full grace because of how long it had been. How was it possible that the dead was brought to life?

Eighteen years to be precise, but she was not happy to see her pack like this, wondering how the pack house was before the renovations.

At the moment, it was similar to that of the Evergreen Pack.

Ashley was also there, and so was Alpha Idris. It was a complete set, making the pack members shiver, especially with Alpha Denzel and Luna Valerie’s presence.

“Alpha Lawn, I was appointed as beta, so I don’t know if I meet your criteria, but I’m ready to step down if you appoint anyone else,” Beta Hugo said.

Alpha Lawn’s brows slightly raised. He could see that Hugo was already overwhelmed with the position.

“Wasn’t Tristan your best friend? How can I be sure that I can trust you?” He asked seriously, Beta Hugo smiled bitterly.

Being interrogated in front of the pack was embarrassing, but he felt like the old Alpha was trying to punish him.

“The fact that we were very good friends did not mean I agreed with everything. I offered suggestions, but you understand that a beta can never force an Alpha to take his suggestion, right?”

Beta Hugo might be overwhelmed, but it turns out he wasn’t foolish.

“If that be the case, then suggest a punishment you would equally partake in.”

Alpha Lawn was testing him. If he chose a difficult punishment, then Alpha Lawn would pin the blame on him, but if he chose a lighter one, then Alpha Lawn would triple it.

However, it amazed all sundry that Beta Hugo did not fall for the trap.

“Alpha, I can suggest rewards for good deeds, but suggesting a punishment is tantamount to suicide. I beg to refuse.”

Ashley smiled. If Tristan had listened to his beta, he would have been able to change his fate, but he did so when it was already too late.

At the initial stages, he had refused until they were in a financial crisis.

“Alright. This is my verdict. From this day forward to the next three days, no pack member above the age of eighteen shall eat or drink anything. This is your punishment for romancing injustice and not fighting for your Luna.”

Silence ensued. Due to the scarcity of food, they had not been eating well already, but now, they were going to avoid food entirely.

“Yes, Alpha,” their saddened voices chorused, but Alpha Lawn was not done.

“That does not mean you are exempted from work. Everybody would join in rebuilding this pack. Thankfully, we have help from the Evergreen Pack, but most of the manpower is going to come from us.”

Hearing about rebuilding the pack, their excitement returned. Everyone loved to be part of the best pack, and ever since Valerie was taken away, the Yellow Stone Pack continued to fall from grace to grass.

It would be amazing to return to their former glory. Cheers suddenly broke out. “Yeeeeeaaaeah, Alpha Lawn is back.”

Everybody standing beside Alpha Lawn laughed, excluding Denzel, as Alpha Lawn reminded them.

“I hope you did not forget to starve yourselves.” An Alpha’s order could never be disobeyed so even if he did not set anyone to watch over them, they would not dare to refuse or cheat.

“Alpha, it already wasn’t easy for us. Food was so scarce, we barely had enough. We were selling more than we stored to get money, which doesn’t come to us. We thank the moon goddess for bringing you back to us,” one of the warriors said honestly.

It was pitiful. Yet, Alpha Lawn did not revert on his punishment. He knew that after serving the punishment, their lives would be full of bliss.

Then he turned to Hugo. “For some reason, I have decided to maintain you as the beta of this pack.”

Beta Hugo felt like he was seeing stars but was filled with gratitude. “Thank you, Alpha, I will do my best.”

After dispersing everyone, Alpha Lawn said to Hugo, “Come, take us to the vault.”

Beta Hugo was confused. “Alpha, there is no vault in this pack. It’s just a safe, and that is close to the finance office.”

Alpha Lawn frowned imperceptibly, but Valerie stepped in. “Dad, I only made the pack aware of a safe. The vault remains unmoved. You know where that is.”

Even Alpha Denzel was surprised. He equally had no idea that the Yellow Stone Pack had a vault. The Ever-green Pack had it, but only Alpha Denzel and Valerie knew about it.

They usually moved the money from the safe there for long-term keeping. “The password remains the same,” Valerie said.

It felt like a dream. “Val, if I get you correctly, then the money in the vault remains intact.”

“Exactly, including what’s in the safe. Tristan pestered me for the passcode to the safe, but I wonder what he would have done if he knew there was a vault.”

This came as a huge relief as Alma patted Valerie on the shoulder. “I was never desirous of a male child when I had you after Ashley. You two have proven to be the best daughters any Alpha and Luna could ever have.”

They went to open the vault, and it was just as Valerie had said. Everything, including the pack’s minerals, remained intact.

“When everything is over, we shall celebrate,” Alpha Lawn announced. They later sat down around a round table to discuss the various developments, and Alpha Lawn suddenly made a request he feared Denzel would not grant.
