Chapter 396: Chapter 396 – The Best News I’ve Heard Today
Troy had a worried look in his eyes as he spoke on behalf of Adira.
“She has been like that ever since we woke up. She kept complaining about the speed that it gave her motion sickness.”
He could not tell where this was all coming from. This was the first time he had difficulty traveling with Adira, but he had to accept that changes were bound to happen.
Alpha Denzel went quiet, most probably in deep thought. Knowing Adira, she was never afraid of speed.
“That is strange. Maybe you should get her checked,” Alpha Denzel suggested. Alpha Troy was about to agree when an elderly voice interrupted.
“Or, she could just take a pregnancy test.” She-wolves reacted differently to pregnancy, and it was the only thing pack doctors had no control over.
Whatever happened during pregnancy was deemed normal at the packs, and one had to individually find the best solutions for it.
The mention of pregnancy caused something to stir inside Adira, and she faced Luna Fernanda with interest.
“Sure, I would love to take the test, but how is Ashley doing?” It would be a great honor to carry the pack’s heir, but she hadn’t seen Valerie around and thought she’d be with Ashley.
However, she could not just ask about Valerie when it was Ashley’s coronation. She understood that all the attention must be on Ashley today and nobody else.
A dry smile escaped Luna Fernanda, knowing that this coronation would not be complete without Valerie’s presence.
Anyone who saw Alpha Denzel would instantly ask about Valerie, making it hard to get over the fact that she wasn’t there and might not be able to make it.
“She’s missing her sister, but aside from that, I think everything is alright. Feel free to go check on her,” Luna Fernanda said sweetly. Adira followed her to take the test.
Alpha Troy wanted to follow them, but the Alpha King Spartan arrived, and he, Alpha Denzel, and Alpha Idris went to welcome him.
In the Alpha’s chamber, Ashley was nervous in her room. Valerie was going to help others, but she wished that Valerie would make it.
When she heard a knock on the door, she thought it was Valerie, and her eyes lit up, but seeing the person, her excitement lessened, blending with sorrow.

This blend of emotions in her was erased partially with Adira’s words to her.
“Wow, you look so stunning, but what is that gloom on your face? I thought Valerie would be here with you.”
Adira looked around, wondering if Valerie was in the shower or something of that sort.
Luna Fernanda said Ashley was missing Valerie, but Aurora thought it was because Valerie would be going back to the Evergreen pack after Ashley’s coronation, but not to meet Valerie’s absence.
“Val went to Vegas to sort out an emergency,” Ashley explained with a heavy heart. No matter how she tried to look at the bright side, it still felt uneasy to not have her sister there on a special day like this.
Adira tried to cheer her up. “I get why you are sad, but I’m here. What help do you need?” Adira asked, ready to help in any way she could due to her excitement, which did not go unnoticed by Ashley.
“You look rather joyful,” Ashley observed and asked. “Is there good news or something?”
Adira could not hide an exceptional news like this from her, spilling the beans. “Well, I’m pregnant,” she said excitedly, pushing all the motion sickness and discomfort from the previous times to the side.
Though she still felt them, she no longer dwelled on them anymore. Ashley was happy for her.
“This is the best news I’ve heard today, but here.” She handed over the diamond pins to Adira. These things were usually done by a most trusted person, and in Valerie’s absence, Adira was the one she could trust to do it.
If not, then her mom or Luna Fernanda, but it was more fun when people around the same age did it for one another. “Help me with the pins. I kind of still massaged the hope that Valerie would come.”
Adira helped with the pins as she encouraged Ashley. “No one wants to be by your side more than her. Have some faith, Ash.”
As carefree as Adira said it, it worked on Ashley like magic, and her smile returned.
The ceremony began, and still there was no sign of Valerie until Ashley was called upon.
“I guess I have to rejoice in the fact that she’s saving lives,” Ashley said with a forced smile. Adira had lost all ways of making her get over her desire to see Valerie.
“That is a good motivation,” she agreed, escorting Ashley to the event’s auditorium.
When they stepped out of the room and reached the stairs, somebody appeared in the living room. It was the exact spot she had disappeared from, and Adira was scared.
“What is that?” She asked curiously, ready for a fight as Ashley smiled and responded proudly.
“It’s Valerie. That’s her new powers. She travels with the clouds.”
Adira was wiping her eyes severally at the sight of Valerie, even as Ashley hugged her. “Thank goddess you made it. I’m so happy.”
Valerie had a smile on her face, glad to have not missed it, but she looked tired. While everyone rested, she was roaming the streets of Vegas on a rescue mission.
“I was afraid of disappointing you, but I guess things went according to plan,” she said with a smile. One could hardly notice the tired look in her eyes, but Ashley thought of making her happier by revealing the trending news.
“Yes, and oh, Adira is pregnant.”
Valerie’s eyes widened with profound excitement as she hugged Adira tightly. “Wow. I’m so happy to hear this,” she said joyfully. The three women embraced each other in a group hug and were about to leave together when Ashley suddenly stopped and faced Valerie.
“Val, there is a problem.”
