Chapter 1088: Be Careful What You Pray For Chapter 1088: Be Careful What You Pray For Villain Ch 1088.
Be Careful What You Pray For Jane let out a slow breath.
“So… that’s what happened,” she said softly.
Alice crossed her arms, her expression somewhere between awe and unease.
“A knight betrayed a siren, she was tortured and turned into something powerful… and all of this happened because of that betrayal.
Dark.” Larissa glanced at Allen, a teasing smirk spreading across her face.
“And, as we predicted, the emperor came and saved her.
Like a true dark prince,” she teased, her eyes glinting with amusement.
Bella rolled her eyes, but the smile tugging at her lips betrayed her amusement.
“More like corrupted her, if you ask me.” Alice joined in, quoting thoughtfully, “‘Be careful what you pray for-your words might summon a god…
or a devil.’ That quote fits the situation perfectly.” She shot a sly look at Allen, who couldn’t help but cringe at the remark.
“Well, I guess that’s my lore, huh?” Allen said with a huff.
“Corrupting all of you.” Vivian let out a soft chuckle.
“I wonder if the players might have thought to try and save us after seeing our backstories.” Her voice was playful, but there was a hint of seriousness beneath it.
Zoe shrugged.
“I’m sure some might have thought to do that.
I can already imagine a group of players thinking they could ‘redeem’ us or something.” Shea glanced over at Jane, noticing her deep in thought.
“Why are you so quiet, Jane?” she asked, her curiosity piqued.
Jane’s gaze was still fixed on the now-empty cage, her fingers tapping thoughtfully against her lower lip.
“I’m thinking,” she muttered absentmindedly.
Allen raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
“Thinking about what?” Jane turned to face him, a mischievous gleam in her eyes.
“The story would be a lot more interesting if the cage was, you know, a stripper cage.” Her voice was entirely serious, which made the absurdity of the statement hit even harder.
“I mean, imagine it!
A maiden trapped here, dancing in the cage.
The priest and priestess are praying, maybe even singing, and someone decides, ‘Hey, let’s give this ceremony a modern twist to make the Gods happy.'” There was a beat of silence as the group stared at her, expressions ranging from confusion to disbelief.
Shea blinked, cringing.
“Wait, what?” Jane continued, clearly on a roll now.
“Yeah!
They think they’re making the ceremony more appealing to the Gods.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
But, plot twist, the Devil Emperor shows up instead, and he’s in a good mood.
So he starts throwing money at the dancer.” She gestured enthusiastically to the now-empty cage.
“The priests and priestesses freak out because, ya know, they were expecting Gods, not a devil.
They try to stop him, and that’s when he gets pissed off and curses the monastery.
Then he takes the dancer with him.” They all blinked, processing Jane’s wild version of events.
Even though Allen was a fantasy writer, he was also momentarily speechless.
Vivian giggled.
“And the one in the cage should obviously be me,” she added.
“A succubus in a monastery?
Born from a ‘ritual gone wrong’-that’s some plot twist!” Larissa gave Jane a slow, deliberate pat on the shoulder, shaking her head with mock seriousness.
“You know… I think it’s time for you to stop reading those weird books, Jane.
Maybe take a pause.
A long one.” Bella burst into laughter, holding her sides.
“Seriously, Jane, that’s the most ridiculous version of events I’ve ever heard.” Allen, though still recovering from the absurdity of Jane’s ‘plot twist,’ couldn’t help but grin.
“I mean, that would be… interesting.
But somehow I don’t think the game developers were going for a stripper cage vibe.” Jane shrugged, her expression completely unbothered.
“Hey, I’m just saying.
It would’ve added some spice.
Make it stand out.” Alice chimed in, still grinning.
“Well, it definitely would’ve stood out.
‘Cursed Monastery: The Dance Floor Edition.'” Shea shook her head, laughing softly.
“Only you, Jane.
Only you could come up with a cursed ritual turning into a strip show.” Jane grinned, clearly pleased with herself.
“Hey, it would’ve been memorable, right?
You have to admit, my version had a certain flair.” Allen rolled his eyes but smiled nonetheless.
“Since this is over, I guess we should head back now.” The girls all nodded in agreement.
Allen raised his hand.
“Portal,” he commanded, and a swirling vortex of dark energy appeared before them.
[A portal has opened.] One by one, they stepped through.
The dark energy enveloped them, and they found themselves back at their base in the Cursed Crypts.
But before anyone could settle in, Jane suddenly let out a loud squeak.
Everyone immediately turned to her, alarmed.
“What’s wrong?” Allen asked, thinking something had followed them back.
Jane, however, wasn’t looking at any immediate threat.
Instead, she had an exaggerated sulk on her face.
“Wait a second… Why did Shea get a whole flashback with play images and everything, while I only got some stupid carvings on a wall for my backstory?” Her pout was comically exaggerated, but she was clearly serious.
“This isn’t fair!” Shea raised an eyebrow.
“Jealous much, Jane?” “Yes!” Jane exclaimed dramatically, throwing her hands in the air.
“She had a whole emotional storyline, some knight betraying her, the Devil Emperor giving her dark powers… and what did I get?
Some old, dusty carvings that barely explained anything!” She folded her arms across her chest, pouting even harder.
Allen exchanged amused glances with the others.
“To be fair, we might’ve skipped something in that last dungeon.
You know, we didn’t kill any boss monsters there.” Larissa, tapping her chin thoughtfully, nodded in agreement.
“Yeah, thinking about it, there’s probably some truth to that.
If we missed the boss fight, maybe that’s why the memory didn’t trigger.” Zoe shrugged, her tentacles swaying slightly.
“It’s possible.
The game’s probably programmed to show us those flashbacks after a boss is defeated.
We were kind of speed-run in that dungeon, remember?” Jane’s eyes widened in realization.
“But still, it feels unfair.
I want my epic backstory cutscene!” she sobbed.
