No Smacking!
“But…
it didn’t work.
They always come back to me,” the fox said again, her voice thick with despair as she sobbed quietly. Allen frowned, his gaze shifting briefly to his companions.
They were still fending off the monsters that had ambushed them, but he could see the battle was winding down.
The creatures, previously relentless, were now fewer and weaker, each one falling more easily than the last.
Soon, his companions would be free to regroup, but he felt a gnawing sense that something bigger was still waiting for them.
His thoughts drifted back to the fox and this cursed situation.
The story was tangled and strange, but there was something familiar in it-something that tugged at him, like a forgotten memory.
“Maybe once the battle’s over, this thing’ll show us what happened,” he muttered to himself, wondering if some hidden memory of the fox might unlock. After all, quests like these always seemed to come with a revelation at the end.
Perhaps they’d learn how the fox had crossed paths with the devil emperor in the first place… and how things had gone so wrong.
The fox whimpered, and Allen flicked his gaze back to her, deep in thought.
“So… if I just hold you here, that’s enough for now?” he mused, almost to himself.
But another question lingered at the back of his mind-would this quest lead to a boss fight?
From what he’d seen, that seemed inevitable, and he couldn’t shake the feeling that something big was waiting just beyond the fog.
The monsters surrounding them, relentless as they’d been, were hardly boss-level.
The fox’s sobbing grew quieter, but she looked up at him, her eyes wide with fear.
“I don’t… I don’t want to be destroyed,” she whispered.
Allen was about to respond when he noticed the forest had fallen into an almost unnatural silence.
His companions had taken down the last of the monsters, their breathing heavy as they regrouped around him.
“Looks like that’s the last of them,” Shea said, dusting herself off as she rejoined the group.
“So what now?
We still got this sneaky little fox, right?” “Yeah, she’s here,” Allen replied, tightening his telekinetic grip slightly as he kept his focus on the trembling creature.
“But I’m still not sure where this is leading.
She said something about the bells cursing the forest, and herself.
I’m guessing there’s a reason for all this… but we’re missing something.” Shea brushed a few stray leaves off her armor and let out a sigh, eyeing the remaining traces of fog with a frown.
“So, let me guess.

We’ve cleared out the smaller monsters, which means we’ll probably have to fight the big bad boss to finish this.
Isn’t that how these quests always work?” Bella gave the fox a pointed look, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
“Well, if it’s the boss we need to deal with, maybe we should warm up by smacking this naughty fox’s butt for a moment.” The fox yelped, her ears flattening against her head as she tried to wriggle out of Allen’s grasp.
“No!
No smacking!” she cried, her voice shaky with panic.
Alice raised an eyebrow, folding her arms as she studied the trembling fox with a skeptical expression.
“You can’t say you don’t deserve it.
You caused all this, remember?
And now we’re cleaning up the mess.” Zoe smirked.
“Sounds like the real Bella,” she said with a wink.
“Hey!” Bella protested, though a small smile tugged at her lips.
But then came a burst of laughter, deep and unmistakably Allen’s voice.
The girls turned, startled, only to see Allen shake his head, holding up his hands.
“Not me,” he said, but his eyes flickered with curiosity, as if sensing something wasn’t quite right.
And then, a voice rang out, low and dark.
“Found you, little fox.” The fox yelped, its fur bristling in fear.
A powerful force rippled through the air, slamming into all of them.
Allen instinctively threw up his barrier, the energy shimmering around them like a protective bubble.
But it wasn’t enough to hold back the entire blast.
The fox, unable to withstand the force, was knocked down, landing hard on the ground with a small whimper.
Allen frowned, his eyes narrowing as he tried to piece together what was happening.
And then he saw him.
The Devil Emperor appeared before them, towering and imposing, looking almost exactly as Allen’s avatar had when he’d first acquired it.
His eyes scanned over them with a dark gleam, and a smirk twisted his lips.
“Oh, you caught that naughty little fox?” the Emperor said, his voice dripping with mock amusement.
“Perfect.
Saved me some trouble.” Shea’s eyes widened as she took a small step back.
“Wait-he can see us?” she whispered, her voice a mix of confusion and alarm.
“I thought this was just a memory…” Larissa said, frowning as she stared at the Emperor.
“Are we actually in his sight?” Allen’s eyes narrowed as he glanced from the Emperor to the fox and back again.
“Seems like it,” he murmured.
His mind raced, trying to figure out how much control he had over this space-or if he had any at all.
Jane folded her arms, her expression skeptical.
“So he can see us, but he’s not even fazed by the fact that there’s another Devil Emperor standing right here?
Strange, to say the least.” The Emperor didn’t seem to care about their whispered confusion.
He reached down, grabbed the fox by its tail, and lifted it effortlessly.
The fox wriggled and whimpered, the bells tied around its neck jingling weakly, as though they’d lost whatever power they once held.
The Emperor sneered at the little creature, giving it a rough shake.
“Hurts, doesn’t it?” he growled, his voice dripping with malice.
“That’s what you get for meddling with the Chrono Chimes.
You thought you could manipulate time and slip past your fate?
Pathetic.” Allen and the others watched, tense and silent, as the Emperor flicked his gaze in their direction.
His eyes were dark, cold, and far too knowing for comfort.
