Chapter 1216: The Queen That Never Was Chapter 1216: The Queen That Never Was Villain Ch 1216.
The Queen That Never Was The others laughed.
Despite their banter, Zoe didn’t move.
She stood still, her tentacles gently swaying in the water, her eyes fixed on the space where the Anglerqueen had dissolved moments earlier.
Her expression was unreadable, her usual playful smirk nowhere to be seen.
“Uh, Zoe?” Shea’s voice broke through the quiet, her brows furrowing as she floated closer to her daughter.
“You good?” No response.
For a moment, it seemed like Zoe hadn’t heard her, her gaze still fixed on the space where the Anglerqueen had dissolved into shimmering particles.
The vibrant playfulness that usually lit up her face was gone, replaced by a heaviness the group wasn’t used to seeing in her.
Finally, Zoe spoke, her voice quiet but heavy with frustration.
“Where is the Devil Emperor?
Where is the past me?
Where is the scene?
The flashback that’s supposed to tell me about my past?” The room fell silent.
The playful banter, the teasing remarks, all the usual camaraderie faded into an uneasy stillness. Allen and the others exchanged glances, Zoe’s disappointment hanging in the water around them.
They knew she’d been convinced-no, certain-that this dungeon was tied to her backstory.
The tentacles, the ominous vibe, the mention of the Queen of Depths…
it had all pointed in that direction.
But now?
The pieces didn’t fit.
The so-called queen wasn’t her, and there had been no grand revelation, no memory, no connection.
Just a bizarre boss fight and a pile of loot.
Shea hovered closer.
“It… doesn’t seem like this dungeon is related to your backstory, Zoe,” she said gently, her voice laced with empathy.
Zoe stayed quiet for a moment, her tentacles curling slightly as she clenched her fists.
Then she let out a long, slow sigh.
“I know,” she said, her tone resigned.
“I just hoped there’d be something.
Anything.
A hint or two that maybe the quest doesn’t stop here.” Allen stepped forward, closing the distance between them.

He placed a steady hand on her shoulder, grounding her with his calm presence.
His voice was soft but firm.
“Zoe, you don’t need a backstory to make me date you,” he said, a small, reassuring smile tugging at his lips.
“All you have to do is ask, and I’ll come to your place.” Zoe blinked, startled by his bluntness.
She turned to look at him, her tentacles relaxing as she placed her hand over his.
“I know,” she said, her voice steady but tinged with sadness.
“It’s not about that.
It’s just… after everything-the tentacles, the vibes, the stupid glowing lantern-I was so sure this place was connected to me.
Yet… it wasn’t.
It feels… so wrong.” Vivian, leaning casually against a nearby column, crossed her arms and let out a sharp exhale.
“I’m not gonna sugarcoat it,” she said, her eyes narrowing.
“I’d be pissed too if I were you.
I mean, it’s like this dungeon just baited you for no reason.” Bella approached Zoe, her usual soft smile in place.
She reached out and patted Zoe on one of her tentacles in an attempt to comfort her.
“But hey,” Bella said, her voice light and optimistic, “at least we had an interesting adventure, right?
I mean, the creatures here were magical, and we got a good laugh out of that weird boss.
That’s something.” Alice nodded, her tone neutral but supportive.
“True.
And the loot wasn’t bad.
Could’ve been worse.
Could’ve been another empty chamber with nothing but creepy plankton.” Larissa, standing slightly apart, gave a small smirk.
“Or more mermaid drama,” she added dryly.
“Honestly, I’d take a boulder-spitting fish over another group of jealous fish-people any day.” Despite herself, Zoe let out a small laugh, the tension in her shoulders easing slightly.
“You guys always know how to make things sound less terrible,” she said, shaking her head.
“Thanks.” Allen gave her shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
“Look, we don’t know everything about your past yet, but that doesn’t mean we won’t find the answers eventually.
This dungeon might not have been the one, but there’s always another.” Vivian grinned, her whip snapping lightly against the floor as she stepped forward.
“And when we find it, we’ll handle it just like this one.
No tentacle queen, glowing lantern, or weird-ass boss is gonna stop us.” Zoe’s grin returned, faint but genuine.
She straightened up, her tentacles unfurling with renewed energy.
“Alright,” she said, her voice steady again.
“You’re right.
Maybe this wasn’t it, but I’m not giving up.
And next time, when we do find the dungeon that’s actually tied to my backstory…” She paused, her grin turning wicked as she glanced at Allen.
“You better be ready for even crazier tentacles.” Allen chuckled, shaking his head.
“I’m always ready.” His lighthearted tone barely broke through the somber atmosphere.
Zoe stood quietly, her disappointment still palpable, while the others shifted uncomfortably, unsure of what to say. The silence stretched on until Jane, who had wandered over to the massive glass bottle containing the dead prince, suddenly broke it.
“Guys…” Her voice was hesitant but sharp enough to grab their attention.
“I think there’s something here.” The group turned to her, their curiosity piqued.
Jane was crouched by the huge bottle, her sharp eyes fixed on the inside.
She tapped lightly on the glass, her expression thoughtful.
Allen stepped closer, his brow furrowing.
“What’s wrong?” Jane pointed to the inside of the bottle, where the limp body of the so-called prince floated lifelessly.
“Look-there’s a letter.
Oh wait… there are two letters.” The group moved in closer, peering through the murky water and fogged glass.
Sure enough, tucked under the prince’s arm and pinned to his chest were two neatly folded pieces of paper, their edges worn but still intact.
“So,” Bella began, tilting her head, “we’re supposed to destroy this thing to get them?” Jane shrugged.
“I guess?
I mean, unless someone has a better idea.” Allen let out a soft sigh and motioned for everyone to step back.
“Alright, stand clear.
I’ll take care of it.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS UnholyGod Your gift is the motivation for my creation.
