Chapter 1338: Keep Your Head on Straight Chapter 1338: Keep Your Head on Straight Villain Ch 1338.
Keep Your Head on Straight The morning came in a blink.
Allen stirred awake, blinking groggily at the ceiling, feeling disoriented.
It was one of those mornings where he felt like he had just closed his eyes only to wake up moments later.
He stretched lazily, muscles sore from the previous night.
His hand instinctively reached for his phone on the nightstand, and when he glanced at the time, his eyes widened in surprise.
“10 AM?” he muttered, sitting up quickly.
He was late-very late.
Breakfast usually started earlier in the Goldborne household, and he figured the rest of the family had probably finished by now.
Muttering under his breath, he got out of bed, washed his face, brushed his teeth, and threw on a simple T-shirt.
Pocketing his phone, he headed downstairs toward the dining room, hoping he hadn’t missed everyone entirely.
To his surprise, when he entered the dining room, it wasn’t empty.
Jordan was there, casually sipping coffee and reading something on his tablet.
The sight of his father sitting alone at the long dining table made Allen pause for a moment.
Jordan didn’t usually linger over breakfast, and seeing him here this late was unusual.
“Morning, Dad,” Allen greeted, sliding into his chair across from him.
Jordan glanced up, a faint smile on his face.
“Morning.
Looks like we’re all late today, huh?” Allen grabbed a glass of orange juice from the table and poured himself a generous amount.
“Yeah… Yesterday was exhausting.” Jordan nodded, setting his tablet aside.
“I’ll admit it was.
But you handled it well.” He took another sip of his coffee before adding, “You made a lot of good moves last night.” Allen blinked, a little surprised by the compliment.
“You mean the fight?” Jordan chuckled, shaking his head.
“No, not the fight.
I meant during the party.
I was watching you.
You answered tricky questions smoothly, mingled with people without making a single misstep, and you even refused those kids who tried to drag you into trouble.” “You mean those young masters?” Allen grabbed a slice of toast, biting into it casually before replying.
“They’re not kids, though.
Most of them are older than me.” Jordan smiled knowingly, setting his coffee cup down with a soft clink.
“Maybe in age, but in thinking?
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
They’re still kids to me.
People who only know how to have fun, who don’t understand responsibility or how to navigate their position in society-they’re kids.” Allen chewed thoughtfully, mulling over Jordan’s words.
He’d always known his father was sharp when it came to reading people.
Jordan had spent years in high society, building the family empire, and he had a knack for understanding how people worked.
“I get what you mean,” Allen said finally, reaching for another slice of toast.
“Kai warned me about those invitations.
Said they were probably bait for reporters to get some juicy gossip.” “Smart of him,” Jordan said approvingly.
“And smart of you to listen.
That’s how they get people-flashing the idea of fun, of freedom, and then dragging them down when they least expect it.
One wrong move at an event like that can ruin your reputation.” Allen nodded.
He’d learned that quickly enough.
Last night hadn’t just been about fighting or showing off the new duel device-it had been a game of politics, one he was only just starting to understand.
Jordan leaned back in his chair, studying Allen for a moment.
“You’re adapting faster than I thought you would.” Allen raised an eyebrow, curious.
“What do you mean?” “I mean,” Jordan said, gesturing slightly with his hand, “this world isn’t easy to step into.
You weren’t raised in it like Emma or me.
Yet, in a matter of weeks, you’ve managed to hold your own.
Last night, you didn’t just survive-you thrived.
That’s impressive.” Allen couldn’t help but feel a small sense of pride at Jordan’s words.
Coming from his father, it meant something.
Still, he kept his tone casual.
“I just did what I had to do.” Jordan chuckled again.
“Don’t downplay it.
There were plenty of opportunities for things to go wrong last night, but they didn’t.
That’s because you kept your head on straight.” They sat in silence for a moment, the quiet clinking of utensils filling the air.
Allen sipped his juice.
“Where’s Emma?” Allen asked, breaking the silence.
Jordan, who was scrolling through something on his tablet, didn’t look up.
“Still asleep, I think.” Allen raised an eyebrow.
“That’s new.” Jordan chuckled softly.
“It is, but not entirely surprising.
We all had a long night.” He took another sip of his coffee, his tone lighter than usual.
“Besides, I don’t have any meetings today, so I’m taking it easy too.
After what happened yesterday, a relaxing day sounds perfect.” Allen leaned back in his chair, smirking.
“True.
You deserve it.” Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the hall, and a moment later, Emma burst into the dining room, looking slightly disheveled but wide awake.
She plopped into her chair, grabbing a piece of toast without hesitation.
“Sorry, I’m late.
Too much chatting last night.” Allen raised an eyebrow, setting his glass down.
“Chatting?
With who?” Emma didn’t even hesitate.
“With your girls.” Allen frowned, confusion flickering across his face.
“About what?” Emma grinned mischievously as she took a bite of her toast, her eyes gleaming with amusement.
“About your ex.” Allen stiffened, his mind flashing back to last night’s encounter with Sophia.
He hadn’t expected her to come up this morning, especially not like this.
Across the table, Jordan, who had been calmly sipping his coffee moments ago, suddenly leaned forward, his eyes narrowing.
“Wait,” Jordan said, his voice sharp with curiosity.
“Your ex was at the party?” Allen sighed, running a hand through his hair.
“Yeah.
I didn’t invite her, and she didn’t know the event was connected to me.
She only showed up because it was a Hell’s Gate event.” Jordan’s eyes widened slightly.
“She’s playing Hell’s Gate too?” Allen nodded reluctantly.
“Sadly, yeah.
And, as expected, she tried to talk to me, asking for another chance.” Jordan leaned back in his chair, processing that information.
“And you?” “I turned her down, obviously,” Allen said, his tone firm.
“There’s no way I’m going back to that mess.” Emma, who had been quietly observing the conversation, suddenly grinned.
“You should’ve seen her face last night.
After the security dragged her back to Mr.
Bell, she looked absolutely miserable.” Allen rolled his eyes.
“I didn’t stick around long enough to care.” “But we did,” Emma said, her grin widening.
“Your girls and I had a whole conversation about it.
I was curious about it, so they told me a few things.” Allen’s frown deepened.
“What kind of ‘few things’?” Emma shrugged, her expression too innocent to be believable.
“Just the basics.
Like how she dumped you because she didn’t see a future with you and how she tried to crawl back once she found out you’re a Goldborne.” Jordan let out a low whistle, clearly amused by the turn of events.
“That must’ve been awkward.” “You have no idea,” Allen muttered, finishing the last of his juice.
He didn’t mind his sister chatting with the girls, but he didn’t exactly love the idea of his past being a topic of conversation.
Emma, however, wasn’t done yet.
“By the way, Zoe said she’d keep an eye on Sophia in case she tries anything funny again.” Allen gave her a flat look.
“She doesn’t need to do that.
Sophia’s not a threat-just a nuisance.” “Still,” Emma said, grinning, “better safe than sorry, right?” Jordan chuckled, clearly entertained by the sibling banter.
“Sounds like you’ve got good people around you, Allen.” Allen sighed, but there was a hint of a smile on his face.
“Yeah.
I do.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS UnholyGod Your gift is the motivation for my creation.
