Chapter 1438: The Lost Path
Villain Ch 1438. The Lost Path
The room was silent.
Allen was the first to speak. “So,” he said, rolling his shoulders, “turns out our mystery sorcerer isn’t just the architect of this mess.”
He tilted his head, a slow smirk forming. “She’s also the last experiment.”
Alice exhaled through her nose. “Great. Just great. So now we’ve got an insane, mutated arcane scientist running around this death trap?”
Jane frowned. “We don’t actually know if she’s alive.”
Vivian scoffed. “Oh, she’s alive.” She gestured at the ruined facility around them. “You don’t set off this much eldritch bullshit without the mastermind still lurking somewhere.”
Zoe rubbed her temple. “So they turned her into something. What?”
Larissa’s crimson gaze flickered. “Only one way to find out.”
Allen’s grin widened. “Well then,” he murmured. “Let’s go find our last experiment.”
But before they left—he had one last thing to take care of.
Allen turned, his crimson gaze locking onto the fallen Enforcers. Their bodies had collapsed, their energy flickering as the last remnants of their corrupted existence drifted into the air like smoke. But they weren’t gone yet.
He stretched out his hand, fingers crackling with abyssal power.
“Pact.”
The air shifted. The room darkened, as if the very walls were recoiling from what he was about to do.
A black sigil ignited beneath the remains of the Enforcers, arcane chains snapping into existence, wrapping around their broken forms. The heavy scent of burning steel and old magic filled the air, the ritual pulling their fractured souls back together.
[Pact Successful!]
The moment the pact sealed, the fallen soldiers rose. Their visors reignited, the faint glow of their red optics no longer hostile—but filled with unwavering loyalty.
They stood still, awaiting orders.
Allen exhaled. “Alright. Now we can go.”
The group exited the office, stepping back into the broken hallways of the facility.
The problem was…
Which way?
Larissa frowned, glancing down one corridor, then the other. The facility was massive, its paths twisting and branching in ways that made no sense. Some doors were sealed, others destroyed, and a few hallways led to dead ends littered with ruined machinery.
Bella let out an irritated huff. “I hate this place. No maps, no directions, just bullshit and nightmares.”
Alice sighed. “Let’s just pick a path before something else tries to kill us.”
Shea tilted her head. “You mean when something else tries to kill us.”
Allen smirked, pointing toward the left corridor. “We go this way.”
Zoe raised an eyebrow. “You’re guessing, aren’t you?”
He grinned. “Always.”

Vivian laughed. “Best strategy ever.”
They moved forward, the Enforcers marching silently behind them. The deeper they went, the more unnatural the air became—the scent of burnt metal, the faint traces of arcane static, the distant sound of something groaning within the walls.
And then— They turned the corner.
And the hallway shifted.
The air rippled.
A deep hum vibrated through the floor, distorting the space around them. It was subtle at first—the light flickering, the walls seeming longer than they should be—and then, all at once, it wasn’t just a hallway anymore.
It was a memory.
Or an echo.
The room warped, flickering between the present and the past, revealing a scene that should no longer exist.
A metal stretcher sat in the center of a cold, sterile lab. The walls, once ruined and cracked, reformed—pristine, polished, glowing with active arcane runes. The sound of faint, flickering machinery hummed in the background.
And on that stretcher— A woman. Strapped down. Bound in arcane chains, their magic pulsating, locking her in place. Her black hair spilled over the metal, long and disheveled, strands sticking to her damp skin. They couldn’t see her face—the restraints covered her upper body, sealing her movements completely.
But she struggled.
Hard.
The chains rattled, the arcane symbols flaring brighter as she fought against them.
And she was muttering.
Her voice was hoarse, filled with anger and desperation.
“This isn’t going to work.”
She thrashed, her fingers clenching into fists.
“You’re making a mistake. This will be a disaster.”
Allen and the others stood frozen, watching as the memory played out.
The voice of another researcher—distorted, hollow—responded from beyond the illusion’s reach.
“The facility commanders have deemed your interference unacceptable. You will serve a greater purpose now.”
The woman let out a harsh, bitter laugh.
“Idiots. You don’t understand.”
The light around her flickered violently, the runes on her restraints pulsating as if struggling to hold her.
“You think you can control it? You think you can force the abyss to obey?”
She sucked in a ragged breath, her tone turning sharp, desperate.
“I’m telling you—this has to be stopped now. If you keep pushing, this entire facility is going to collapse.”
Allen’s eyes narrowed, watching her.
She wasn’t afraid.
Even as she was restrained, experimented on, locked into this nightmare—she wasn’t begging for her life.
She was furious.
Furious that they were ignoring her.
The memory trembled, starting to fragment, the illusion breaking apart as whatever was holding it ran out of power.
Her voice faded—but the last words were clear.
“…You have no idea what you’ve let in.” A shudder ran through the illusion, her chains tightening as if to silence her.
The entire hallway snapped back into reality.
The lights flickered. The air turned deathly silent.
And for the first time since entering this hellish place— Nobody had anything to say.
Vivian was the first to move, letting out a low exhale, rolling her shoulders like she was trying to shake off the weight of what they had just witnessed. “Well,” she muttered, “that was cheerful.”
Bella crossed her arms, her tail flicking in irritation. “That wasn’t just a memory. That was a warning.”
Jane let out a breath, rubbing her temples. “And now we know for sure—she wasn’t the real villain here.”
Shea’s wings twitched. “They tried to break her.”
Larissa narrowed her eyes, her fingers clenching. “They failed.”
Allen ran a hand through his hair, a slow grin forming. “Oh yeah. She’s still out there.”
Zoe crossed her arms. “And the question is—what did she become?”
