Chapter 1493: Trial of Will [Part 3]
Villain Ch 1493. Trial of Will [Part 3]
The moment the words left his mouth, the Warden of Chains surged forward—and vanished mid-step. No sound, no dramatic flash. Just gone.
The chill that replaced it was worse.
[Warning: The Warden is immune to damage outside of active rune zones.]
[Mechanic Active: Rune Circles will spawn randomly throughout the maze.]
Allen’s jaw tensed. “So it’s peekaboo with a monster made of hate and rebar? Perfect.”
His grip tightened on the hilt of his sword. The blade pulsed faintly with his magic—metal darkened by enchantments, edge jagged like it was forged in some infernal workshop. He shifted into a ready stance, eyes scanning the fog-thick corridors around him.
Then it came—the hum.
Faint. Arcane. A low vibration tickling his bones.
To his left, a rune circle flared to life, glowing deep blue with rotating symbols spiraling outward like a flower of burning code. Allen sprinted toward it, cloak billowing behind him, boots hammering against slick stone.
The second he stepped inside, the Warden appeared with a flash of crimson chains and shrieking metal. It landed hard, dragging a massive hook along the ground with a scream that felt like it clawed down Allen’s spine.
The boss didn’t wait.
Chains lashed outward in a wide arc.
Allen twisted, raising his off-hand.
“Barrier!”
The chain smashed against the barrier and rattled it like a cracked bell. Allen didn’t flinch—he charged, sliding under the second whip and swinging his sword in a wide horizontal arc.
Sparks erupted as the edge bit into the Warden’s thigh—thick like a slab of iron—but the impact registered. A low growl spilled from behind the mask.

“Didn’t like that, huh?”
The Warden responded by teleporting. Again.
Allen staggered from the sudden change in momentum, breath catching in his throat. His ears rang from the violent stillness the boss left behind.
Then—
The walls shifted. A thunderous grinding. The corridor behind him sealed shut.
He barely had a second to catch his breath before a low click sounded nearby. A corpse dropped from the ceiling and exploded mid-fall.
[Environmental Hazard: Exploding Corpse – Triggered]
[HP -19,600]
[Status Effect: Grave’s Rot – Active (HP -3% per 10s for 30s)]
Flames licked at his cloak. Allen coughed, stumbled forward, then grit his teeth. “Okay. I’m pissed now.”

He yanked a high-grade regen potion from his inventory and downed it. The sharp floral-cinnamon flavor was almost welcome this time. The burning sensation cleared the fog in his chest.
[HP +48,000]
[Regen Boost +40% for 60 seconds]
A flicker of rune-light caught his attention—another circle, farther ahead. But this time, the Warden was already there, waiting, its barbed chains coiled like a snake ready to strike.
Allen narrowed his eyes. He didn’t rush in.
Instead, he extended his hand and focused.
“Telekinesis!”
Nearby, a half-shattered coffin hovered into the air. He launched it straight into the circle.
Chains snapped forward and shredded it instantly.
“Thought so.”
Allen charged in from the opposite direction, sword raised. As he entered the rune, the Warden recoiled slightly, caught in the activation delay from its earlier trap.
He didn’t give it time to recover.
Allen feinted left—baited a chain sweep—then slid under it and drove his blade upward in a brutal rising slash across the Warden’s midsection. The sword sang, leaving behind a sizzling arc of demonic energy.
[+19,400 Damage – Cleave]
[Skill Chain: Demonic Lance – Combo Activated]
Without missing a beat, Allen thrust his free hand forward and summoned a crimson spear that exploded into the boss’s chest, staggering it back into the edge of the rune circle.
The Warden let out a guttural screech—chains flailing wildly.
Allen ducked under one, but the second caught him across the ribs.
[HP -38,200]
[Barrier Cooldown: 8 seconds]
He flew backward, slammed into a broken pillar, and crumpled to a knee.
Breath ragged. Muscles burning.
“Not done yet,” he hissed.
Another hum lit up in the corridor to his right. New rune. New chance.
Allen ran. Limbs heavy. Debuffs gnawing at his casting speed and regen. The crypt itself wanted him to die slowly. But he still moved—because this was about more than passing a test.
This was domination.
The rune circle activated just as the Warden blinked into it again. This time, the boss wasn’t alone—minions began pouring in. Skeletal warriors. Rotten monks. One of them dragged a scythe that scraped across the stone, teeth clacking with each step.
Allen planted his feet. No retreat.
“Hellfire Rain!”
The ceiling split open with a low crack, and burning meteors screamed downward in a vertical bombardment. Flames engulfed the shrine, the minions, and the Warden. Screams echoed—both from the mobs and the stones themselves.
[+72,000 Damage – AoE Critical]
[+26,000 EXP – Multi-kill Bonus]
Ash rained down like hell’s confetti.
Allen lunged through it.
He brought the sword down in a vicious vertical strike—then twisted the blade mid-impact and yanked it free with a gory flourish. Before the Warden could react, Allen cast [Dark Storm] under its feet.
Shadow vortex. Chains rattling. Screams ripping through the air.
The Warden knelt. For the first time, it knelt.
Allen didn’t stop.
“Telekinesis.”
He grabbed two of the charred skeletons from the flame—used them as projectiles. They smashed into the boss’s mask with bone-cracking force.
Then, the Warden vanished again.
The fog tried to close in.
Allen staggered, body trembling, sword tip dragging briefly before he caught his breath.
“Come on,” he muttered, scanning.
One last rune flared—larger than the others. A final chamber. A circle carved into the bones of the maze.
Allen sprinted toward it, pushing through pain, through the whispers in the fog, through the maze’s hatred.
The Warden appeared. Glowing red. Furious.
Allen didn’t hesitate.
“Stone Curse.”
The ground around the boss crystallized—jagged black stone erupted up, catching its limbs for a half-second.
Enough.
“Abyssal Descent!”
Chains of flame burst from the earth, dragging the Warden into a pit of darkness. The crypt screamed as the ultimate detonated.
