Chapter 1498: You Look Way Too Calm
Villain Ch 1498. You Look Way Too Calm
His fingers flew across the menu as he ran through his shortlist.
He clicked the required material list. Two out of the five core recipes had 90% of the ingredients already in his stash. The third had everything but a drop of Abyssal Resin, which only dropped from a world boss he hadn’t touched in months.
“Ugh… seriously?” he muttered. “That thing again?”
The fourth item—the cloak—required a Heart of the Infernal Chimera, and judging by the little red X, he definitely didn’t have it.
“And the drop rate is what—five percent?” he muttered, dragging his hand down his face. “Fine. Fine. I’ll do the stupid boss rush again.”
He closed the menu for a second and leaned back on the throne behind him. And yet…
Two pops of magic shimmered in the air in front of him, and just like that, Emma and Kafra stood before him—one practically vibrating with energy, the other as calm as ever.
Emma—aka BattleGoddess, his sister, full armor set gleaming obnoxiously in the twilight—leaned in with a smirk.
“Did you see that?” she asked, her eyes wide with excitement.
Allen raised a brow. “You mean the part where the entire server got an alert that some meathead guildmaster wants to knock on my door and burn my house down?”
She pouted. “You look way too calm. Don’t you feel panic or something? Maybe, like, I dunno—stress?”
Allen gave her a deadpan stare, already remembering what happened earlier that morning—specifically, Emma trying to sneak off with one of his harness belts from his bag.
“No.” He pointed a finger at her. “And don’t think I forgot about what you did this morning.”
Emma sniffed and crossed her arms. “It was for science.”
“Liar,” he shot back.
“I was checking, by the way, which means your guard is not as sharp as usual.”
Allen groaned, but the corner of his mouth twitched upward anyway. He couldn’t even fake being annoyed for long.
Then Kafra stepped forward, hands folded neatly in front of her. Her eyes were focused.
“You have to prepare well, Allen,” she said calmly. “This is the first time players have ever been granted permission to initiate a raid against a villain faction leader.”
Allen blinked. “Yeah, I know.”
Kafra nodded. “This is the test case. How the system handles it, how the PvEvP mechanics balance in your home territory. It’s… experimental.”
Emma gasped. “So this is like—wait, you’re beta testing the villain defense mechanic!?”
“Looks like it,” Allen muttered.
“You better not die and embarrass yourself,” Emma said, grinning. “You’re literally the first final boss player in history to get a defense event.”
“Thanks for the pressure.”
Kafra spoke again, her tone thoughtful. “Your role is now reversed. You’re not just the villain. You’re the defending villain. Players will test your base. Your team. Your upgrades. How you command your forces.”
Allen let out a long breath. “Yeah. I know. That’s why I’m pulling out everything for this one.”
He opened his inventory again, scrolling fast.
“Most of the mats are done. I’m missing two pieces for the gear set I want. One I’ll have to farm from a dungeon I hate, and the other…”

Emma peeked at his screen and made a face. “Ugh. Chimera boss?”
“Yup. The one with the five heads and the too-much-hp phase.”
“You want help?” she asked.
Allen looked over at her. “No. Your punishment period isn’t complete yet.”
“…Tch!”
Kafra, who had been quiet, raised one hand. “You’ll also need to start preparing your base layout manually. The system won’t automate this one. You’re allowed to submit up to three major defense upgrades and five minor traps. Do you have designs in place?”
Allen opened the base editor again and pulled up his rough draft. A glowing map of the Cursed Crypts appeared in front of them, projected into the open air with floating markers and rotating glyphs.
“Here. Choke points at the bone bridges,” he said, pointing. “Lava pit runes along the outer edge here. Fire walls lining the corridor into the inner sanctum. And if I can farm enough cursed soul shards before the event, I’m reviving the Abyssal Dragon as a boss mechanic.”
Kafra studied the layout for a moment, nodding slowly. “This may work. But keep in mind—they’ll be bringing siege equipment. Possibly a Warden-class support caster.”
“I’m counting on it,” Allen replied, zooming in on a side gate.
Then he paused, brows furrowing slightly.
“Actually… I might need to add something to cover healing support,” he muttered. “I don’t have anyone in our roster who fits the traditional healer role.” He shrugged. “I know we’re villains. We don’t exactly run with saints and medics.”
He rubbed his chin thoughtfully, shifting the map with a flick of his hand. “But can I get someone to fill that slot… maybe towers? A restoration array or something that acts like a heal pulse during the wave phases?”
Kafra’s eyes brightened slightly, and she gave a small nod. “Yes, we do have that. There’s a Tier IV structure available: Shrine of Spiteful Renewal. Heals nearby allies for 3% HP every 4 seconds, and boosts regeneration by 20% for anyone standing inside its radius.”
Allen whistled. “Spiteful Renewal? That’s a messed up name.”
“It only works for those marked by the Abyss,” Kafra said, unfazed. “Anyone else who enters it takes damage instead.”
Allen grinned. “Oh, I like that.”
“You would,” Emma muttered.
Kafra continued, “You can place one as a major structure, or two as minor shrines if you sacrifice their regen boost and only keep the area healing.”
Allen tilted his head. “Let’s go with one full-strength version, and I’ll place it right outside the throne chamber. Give the girls a spot to recover before the final push.”
“Creepy. Functional. Very on brand,” Emma said, looking between them. “You’re scary when you’re like this.”
Allen didn’t even look up. “It’s called preparation.”
Emma crossed her arms, smiling despite herself. “It’s called being a tryhard.”
He gave her a sideways glance. “And yet you logged in the second the event got announced.”
“…Don’t change the subject.”
