Chapter 1520: Deep Trouble
Villain Ch 1520. Deep Trouble
Allen Goldborne was a complex man.
That much Mila had always known—way too well, actually—even if she’d tried so hard not to admit it out loud. Or to herself. Because once she did, there was no pretending. No denying.
And now?
Now she was sitting in the backseat of her car with a dumb little smile on her face.
It was subtle. Barely there. But it was definitely real.
The traffic had eased up while she was inside. The streets weren’t that crowded anymore. No more honking chaos. Just a calm, steady hum of the city breathing in and out. It felt like even the world around her had decided to take a break and chill for a moment.
Mila leaned back against the seat, exhaling softly. Her fingers toyed with the hem of her sleeve, fidgeting like they always did when her thoughts wouldn’t sit still.
From the front, Danan glanced at her through the rearview mirror.
Of course he noticed. Danan noticed everything. After all these years, the man was basically a second pair of eyes for her—and, sometimes, a second brain.
“You look happier, Miss,” he said, steering the car with practiced ease. “Lunch must’ve gone well.”
She didn’t answer right away. Just watched the storefronts slide by outside the tinted window. People walking. Coffee cups in hand. Jackets tossed over arms. Life moving on like nothing had happened.
But something had happened.
Eventually, Mila murmured, “It did.”
Danan waited a second. Then, in that knowing tone of his: “Did something happen between you and Mr. Goldborne?”
Mila’s lips curved up a little more. She turned her gaze to meet his in the mirror. “Define ‘something.'”
He didn’t even blink. “You left the agency like you were about to chew through a brick wall. Now you’re glowing. I might be old, Miss Mila, but I’m not blind.”
She let out a quiet laugh, brushing her fingers through her hair to tuck a loose strand behind her ear. “Nothing happened like that. We just… talked. Ate. It was nice.”
“Sometimes,” Danan said, “that’s all it takes. A good meal and good company.”
Mila tilted her head against the cool window glass, eyes fluttering half-shut. Her heartbeat was still going a little too fast. Not panic-fast, but… fast enough to be annoying. And fluttery. Ugh. She hated fluttery.
“It wasn’t even the food,” she admitted, voice softer now. “I mean, yeah, the steak was amazing. But it was him.”
“Him?”
She nodded. “Allen. He was different today. Not the usual him.”
Danan hummed. “And what’s the ‘usual’ Allen?”
Mila rolled her eyes slightly. “Controlled. Sharp. All business. Like he’s got three meetings lined up in his brain while he’s talking to you, and you’re just part of some multitask strategy. He doesn’t laugh. Doesn’t smile unless it’s calculated.”
“But not today?”
She smiled again, this one smaller, a little shy even. “No. Today he laughed. He teased me. He—” She paused, biting her bottom lip for a second.
Danan didn’t say anything this time. He let the silence sit there between them like a warm blanket.
Mila stared out at the street. A young couple sat on a bench, heads close, shoulders brushing. They looked like they were in their own little world. Just them. Like the world could wait while they figured out each other.
Her chest felt tight.

Not in a bad way. Just… full.
“I think it caught me off guard,” she said quietly. “I wasn’t expecting to feel anything. I already liked him—obviously—but I thought I had it under control. But then today… seeing that side of him… it made it worse.”
“Or better,” Danan corrected with a slight grin.
Mila groaned and hid her face behind her hands for a second. “Maybe both.”
The car turned into a quieter part of the city, one of those cozy little lanes with trees overhead and indie cafés on every corner. It smelled faintly like roasted coffee and warm bricks. The kind of place she’d usually stroll through in oversized sunglasses and a scarf, pretending to be incognito while secretly enjoying being recognized.
She glanced up again. “Can I ask you something?”
Danan nodded. “Always.”
“Do you think…” She hesitated. “Do you think feelings like this are… dangerous?”
Danan arched a brow in the mirror. “Dangerous?”
“For people like me. And like him. With the family stuff. The expectations. The old grudges that never really went away.”
He was quiet for a beat, thoughtful. Then he said, “Feelings only become dangerous when we try to pretend they’re not there.”
Her heart did that annoying skip thing again. Great.
“I just… I don’t want to be some cliché. Another rich girl crushing on the powerful guy she can’t have. That’s so predictable.”
“You’re not a cliché,” Danan said, completely serious now. “And you’re not invisible either. He sees you.”
Mila was silent.
But her cheeks were hot. Dammit. She was blushing. Why was she blushing?
The image of Allen’s smile popped into her head again. That small smirk when she teased him. The way he tilted his head when she caught him being… human.
He’d actually looked surprised when she said he was different.
Like no one had ever noticed before.
Her fingers started tapping on her phone screen—not typing, just fidgeting. It was that nervous energy again. The kind that crept up on you when you knew your feelings weren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
She was in trouble.
Like, deep trouble.
The kind where you start planning imaginary conversations in the shower and wonder what it’d feel like if he kissed you.
Yup.
She was screwed.
But it didn’t feel bad. Not at all.
When the car finally rolled to a stop outside her mansion, she didn’t move right away. She just sat there for a second longer. Breathing.
“You okay?” Danan asked gently.
“Yeah,” she said, reaching for her bag. “Thanks for the drive.”
“Anytime, Miss Mila.”
She opened the door. Then paused halfway out.
“Oh, and Danan?”
“Yes?”
“Don’t tell my brother.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it.”
She gave him one last smile before stepping out, heels clicking softly.
A quiet realization. Sharp and undeniable.
This wasn’t a crush anymore.
It was real.
Something deeper. Something that made her heart beat too fast and her mind run in circles and her stomach flutter like a middle schooler on her first real date.
And… She wanted to see where it would go.
