Chapter 1530: A Candidate For What?
Villain Ch 1530. A Candidate For What?

Allen’s body cut through the air like a spear of vengeance, the obsidian blade angled down, cloak flaring behind him. A heartbeat later, the others followed—wings spreading, gliding through the misty pit.

Wind howled past them, pulling at hair and fabric, carrying the distant echoes of things moving—things waiting.

They descended in silence, slowing only as the bottom came into view—an ancient chamber carved into the mountain’s roots.

It was different here.

No molten lava. No red glow. No screams or heat.

This place was cold. Dry. Still.

The stone underfoot was smooth, polished black, but cracked with glowing abyssal veins like spiderwebs of soft violet light. Massive arches—long corroded—stretched toward a ceiling lost in darkness. Strange symbols shimmered across the walls, written in a weird language. They pulsed when Allen walked past them. Responded to him.

The air smelled stale, old enough to taste. A metallic tang sat on the back of their tongues—like blood mixed with dust.

Then the system alert blinked across their vision.

[Warning: You have entered the Sealed Sanctuary]

[“Survive the Mutation.”]

Zoe’s eyes narrowed. “Mutated…?”

Suddenly—dozens of glowing red eyes lit up in the darkness.

They appeared.

Not from a door. Not from a spawn glyph. Just appeared—pulling themselves out of cracks in the walls, crawling from behind broken statues, slithering across the ceiling. Dragons—no, not quite dragons. Mutants. Twisted.

Mutated Draconid <Lv. 251>

Warped Drake <Lv. 253>

Abyss-Clawed Ravager <Lv. 255> x3

Their wings were split down the middle, some with extra joints or webbing that stretched too far. Their scales were uneven—half-covered in fleshy growths or abyssal rot, like they’d been corrupted by something far older than mana. Limbs were gnarled. Teeth overgrown. Magic shimmered faintly across their skin, but it wasn’t elegant—it was wrong. Off. Like magic had twisted through them, not into them.

They growled in sync. It sounded wet. Hollow. Hungry.

The group barely had time to react before one lunged.

It went for Larissa—fast.

But Allen moved faster.

He blurred past the others, cloak trailing like smoke, and slammed into the mutated beast with a brutal shoulder-check. The impact cracked stone and shoved the creature back. It screeched—an unholy, glitchy sound—and snapped its jaws toward his face.

Allen’s blade met it mid-roar.

He carved upward, slicing from under the jaw through its snout, and kept going—spinning mid-strike to bring his sword crashing down on its spine. The crunch echoed through the chamber as the mutant hit the ground, twitching violently.

Another came from behind.

Allen twisted, dragging his sword through the floor in a wide arc, kicking up stone sparks. The blade met the mutant’s charging claws and split them clean off.

It screamed, but Allen didn’t stop.

He slammed his foot into its chest—forcing it back—and activated Telekinesis Blast mid-swing, launching himself forward while dragging the sword with brutal force.

The edge bit through muscle, bone, and the warped mana shield protecting the creature’s core.

[Warped Drake Defeated +9 Shards Acquired]

“Holy shit,” Bella muttered as another wave approached from the sides. “They just keep coming.”

“They’re not normal mobs,” Jane said, already summoning Bone Wall to shield Zoe while she cast Death Nova. “This is like… corrupted biology. Like someone made these.”

“They did,” Allen said, his voice low, eyes burning crimson. “The Abyss made them.”

He charged again—straight into three Abyss-Clawed Ravagers moving as a coordinated unit.

The first swung its arm—long and spiked like a scythe. Allen ducked low, sword gripped in reverse, and spun with a low slice that carved the limb clean off. Blood sprayed.

The second roared and reared up, slamming its claws down where Allen had been—he rolled, using Barrier to block the impact shockwave, and retaliated by driving his sword into the joint of its leg.

The Ravager tried to fly upward.

Allen climbed it.

Boots slamming into its scaled thigh, left hand gripping a jut of bone, and then—he reached the shoulder.

He raised his blade.

And slammed it down into the base of the mutant’s neck. Once. Twice. Three times.

The fourth strike severed the head completely.

It dropped like a bag of rocks, crashing into the floor with a wet splat.

[Abyss-Clawed Ravager Defeated +12 Shards Acquired]

The third one backed up—limping—snarling like a beast that had just watched its alpha fall.

Allen didn’t hesitate.

He stepped forward, dragging his blade behind him again. It hissed along the polished black stone. His expression was calm. Too calm.

The beast lunged. Fangs wide. Sickle tail arcing over its head.

Allen didn’t blink.

[Skill Activated: Stone Curse]

The trap glyph beneath them pulsed. The beast froze mid-air, limbs turning to stone. Its momentum carried it forward anyway.

Allen side-stepped.

Then—without fanfare—swung.

The impact shattered the petrified skull into glittering shards of blood and crystal.

[Abyss-Clawed Ravager Defeated +12 Shards Acquired]

“Allen,” Shea called, landing beside a fallen mutant she had just shredded with her Wind Blade Strike. “They’re not stopping. I see more shapes forming.”

“Let them come,” Allen said, flicking gore off his sword with a quick twist. “I need more shards anyway.”

[Quest Progression: 55% -> 65%]

[Abyss Mutation Recognizes Your Strength.]

[You are no longer an intruder.]

[You are a Candidate.]

That last line hit like a cold whisper.

“A candidate for what?” Vivian asked, narrowing her eyes.

Allen didn’t answer right away. His gaze was locked on the far end of the room—where another path had revealed itself. This one wasn’t hidden. It wasn’t even subtle.

It was a giant gate.

Carved with runes.

And beyond it?

Something pulsed. Slowly. Like a heartbeat.

“It sound like we’re not just here to summon a dragon,” Allen said softly. “We’re here to replace one.”

Zoe inhaled. “That… doesn’t sound like a summon.”

“No,” Allen said, sword still dripping in one hand. “It sounds like a throne.”

And he had every intention of sitting on it.
