Chapter 1566: Different Kind of Embarrassment
Villain Ch 1566. Different Kind of Embarrassment

Gerry blinked at them, his expression stuck between disbelief and awe. “Wait. Are we being serious now? Is this happening before 10 AM?”

Allen smirked faintly. “Miracles.”

“Man…” Gerry rubbed his face and let out a long sigh. “You both flipped. Like, snapped in real-time. Jane’s out here giving life advice. Allen’s unpacking emotional baggage over coffee. I feel like I missed a side quest that explains all this.”

Jane, without missing a beat, reached over and tossed a napkin at him. “Catch up, sidekick.”

Gerry caught it, grumbling. “I was just here for the protein and drama, not the therapy hour.”

“You can’t spell brunch without breakthrough,” Jane quipped, then winked at Allen. “And we’re not done with yours yet.”

“You never are.” Allen chuckled softly. And it wasn’t the bitter kind. Wasn’t the tired kind either. It was warm. Quiet. The kind that cracked through the cold edges and settled in his chest.

He took another slow sip of his coffee, now lukewarm, but somehow it still tasted better than it had earlier. Or maybe he was just finally tasting everything else—the moment, the people, the strange chaotic calm that only Jane and Gerry could bring into his life.

His gaze shifted to Jane, who was devouring her spinach wrap like it had personally offended her. She was almost done with it, which was impressive considering she’d been alternating between rants, emotional dives, and warlock-tier quips every thirty seconds.

He tilted his head slightly. “So,” he asked casually, “what’s the plan after this? You skipping the rest of the gym day or…?”

Jane blinked, cheeks full, and held up a finger while she chewed with dramatic importance. Then she swallowed, took a sip of her massive drink, and said, “Nope. I’m heading back.”

Allen raised a brow. “Really?”

“Yeah. Larissa promised to show me one or two things outside of the class,” she said, trying and failing to hide how smug that made her feel.

“Like… using gym equipment?” he asked, lips twitching.

Jane nodded, as if this were a very serious appointment with fate. “Yep. Apparently, I grip the dumbbells like I’m trying to strangle them, so she said we’d work on form.”

Allen smirked. “I can teach you, you know.”

She gave him a look. “Next time, then. You’re done for the day, right? Besides, her class should be over soon and I kinda owe her an apology hug.”

“Apology hug,” Gerry repeated, amused.

Allen rested his elbow on the table, watching Jane with that careful ease he rarely let anyone see. “Why the sudden commitment to the gym, anyway?”

Gerry leaned forward too, still grinning. “Is this because of Allen?”

Jane didn’t even blink. “Obviously.”

Her eyes locked on Allen, direct and weirdly earnest. “Allen is a famous billionaire now. Kind of a big deal. I need to make sure I’m fit, y’know? I don’t wanna embarrass him.”

Allen’s brows lifted slightly. “Jane… you’ve never embarrassed me.”

She narrowed her eyes. “You literally interrupted my explanation about the fire BDSM in your fanfiction because you were embarrassed.”

“That was a different kind of embarrassment,” Allen said, holding up a finger.

“Same thing.” Jane gave him an unimpressed stare and shoved the rest of her wrap into her mouth with slow, taunting purpose.

Allen chuckled and leaned back. “But really. I’m glad. That you want to live healthier.”

“Yeah…” Jane said around a mouthful. Then, after swallowing, added, “Yup. Definitely for healthier life.”

But her gaze didn’t match her words. It lingered a bit too long. Tilted a little too knowing.

Allen’s head tilted again. He caught it. That flicker of something else. Something not quite fitness-related.

His eyes narrowed slightly—not suspicious, just… sharper.

“Okay,” he said slowly, “then what is it really for?”

Jane blinked. Looked away. Then leaned closer across the table, lowering her voice to a near-whisper.

“I need more stamina…” she murmured, eyes flicking up to meet his. “To balance yours in bed.”

Allen choked on air.

Jane didn’t move. Didn’t laugh. Just leaned back with the most innocent sip of her drink like she hadn’t just delivered a verbal atomic bomb under her breath.

“I mean… I will need it,” she added, dead serious.

Then she sat down again and casually opened her protein muffin like that conversation hadn’t just happened.

Allen blinked. Still processing. Then let out a slow, stunned laugh. “Goddammit, Jane…”

His lips curled into a full smile. One of those rare, helpless ones he couldn’t stop even if he wanted to.

“You’re so you,” he muttered.

It wasn’t even flirty. Not really. It was just honest. Jane’s brand of insanity came with no brakes and no warning—but under it, Allen always knew where he stood with her.

Which was exactly what made her dangerous. And also why she was still here.

Gerry stared between them, eyes wide. “Okay. I’m officially the third wheel in the world’s weirdest soap opera.”

“Correction,” Jane said brightly. “You’re the live audience.”

Allen leaned forward, shaking his head. “You’re impossible.”

“And doing squats after this,” she reminded him, pointing at her gym bag like it held the keys to destiny.

He rolled his eyes, but the smile didn’t leave. “Just don’t let Larissa kill you.”

Jane gave a solemn nod. “If I die, tell my fellow fanfic readers I died strong and hot.”

Gerry covered his face with both hands. “I’m logging out of this friend group.”

Allen just sipped his coffee again, the last bit finally cold, but somehow still sweeter than usual.

Because yeah. Maybe today started with pain and a heavy heart. Maybe it was supposed to be quiet. Just a gym run. A bit of sweat. A routine.

But instead, he got this.

A hallway kiss.

A soft moment he didn’t expect.

The girl who saw through him without trying.

And another who cracked him open without effort.

Allen didn’t always believe in peace.

But this?

This chaos?

This mess?

These people?

It felt close enough.
