Chapter 127: Clearing The Rest Of The Thugs
We went down the stairs to the next floor, looking for the room in question where they held the girls they were trying to drug.
The lower floor seemed to have been used as a night club at one point but was abandoned and wrecked.
I’m assuming there’s another way in here because I highly doubt the patrons were expected to go through the tunnel we went through just to get here.
The tunnel itself led to the second floor of the club where it looked like it was filled with private booths while the floor below consisted of a dance floor and several standing tables.
It wasn’t really that big of a place and it was made to look even smaller with the amount of trash and broken furniture littered around the place.
As soon as we stepped inside the club however, a gunshot resounded through the club and my shield flared to life, protecting me against a bullet that was aimed at my chest.
All of us ducked behind the railing for cover before our location was suddenly lit up by several unseen assailants all firing at us.
Crap… They already know we’re here.
“Got a plan?” I asked Amber who was taking the time to check the remaining bullets in her pistols.
“Hmm? Of course~ I move towards the right and flank them before I start mowing them down~”
I pointed to the hail of bullets above us, “You’re running out in that?”
She shrugged, “I won’t be running right at them, silly~ Don’t worry, I’ll take the pressure off you and then you can join me once they stop shooting at you and start shooting at me instead!”
Before I could protest, she had already leapt out of cover and fired a few rounds over the railing before dashing away.
Our shooters started to redirect their aim at her and the hail of bullets above us shifted away, giving us the opportunity to fight back.
“Cover us, Lea!” I instructed the Alv who responded with a curt nod.
I leapt over the railing, dropping down to the first floor with my shotgun in my hands.
The thugs that had been hiding behind the broken furniture on the first floor was surprised to see me and tried to swing their guns down to aim at me.
Too bad for them, I was faster and blasted three of them in the head before they could even finish their turn.
There were a few more who I did not manage to finish off so I ducked behind one of the trash piles right before several energy bolts started blasting my makeshift cover.
I heard a low whine from overhead just as I loaded in three more shells into my shotgun and got ready to move again.
A split second passed and Lea’s coilgun round pierced through one thug’s head before the bullet continued its trajectory to completely eviscerate another thug that was standing behind the first one.
I dashed out from my cover, aiming for the pillar in the centre of the room while the others were distracted by Lea’s presence above.
A few of them tried to shoot me but my shield managed to tank the few shots that landed on me without problems.
In return, I fired back at the thugs nearest to the pillar, blasting two down while another two of them survived thanks to their shields.
Those two quickly ran behind to take cover with the rest of the thugs, allowing me to reach the pillar and taking cover behind it.
I started loading in more shells, this time with a mix of shield busters and slug rounds when Lea’s voice came from above.
“Captain! Grenade!”
I heard something hitting the floor on my left and I turned to see a ball shaped thing roll to the side of my foot.
Unsure of what kind of grenade it was and how big an explosion it had, I didn’t want to risk it and leapt away from the pillar behind several overturned tables instead.
Not a moment too soon, an explosion wrecked through the space behind me, blowing even the pillar I had been using as cover into pieces.

Half of the tables I was using as cover also got blown off but it managed to cover most of the explosion so that my shield could tank the rest without shattering.
I popped out and lined up my gun with the nearest thug, the man surprised to see that I was still alive despite the explosion.
The shield buster shell struck against his shield and completely obliterated it, but I wasn’t able to shoot him a second time before he ducked back behind cover.
Fortunately, there was another thug behind him so I just shifted my aim a little and fired at him, the slug round blasting a hole directly through his chest.
I was forced to look for cover when a few thugs started shooting at me from the floor above, opposite of where Lea was sniping from.
Rolling behind a large piece of the pillar that had been destroyed by the explosion, I waited behind it until I heard two pistol shots echoing from above.
That should be Amber taking care of those guys so I ran out of cover again, surprising the thug I didn’t manage to kill with a slug shot to his face.
I then leapt over a few tables and landed right next to another thug who was cowering behind it, a spiked bat in his hands.
He heard my feet landing on the ground beside him and turned to see the barrel of my shotgun pointed right at his face.
“Hello there,” I greeted him, right before I squeezed the trigger.
His faceless body flew backwards from the blast and crashed into the broken tables, leaving me to find my next target.
I turned around just in time to see one guy rush at me with a knife raised over his head.
I realised that I did not have time to turn my gun to point at him so I dropped it and crossed my arms overhead, catching the downward swing of his hand in between my wrists.
Instinct was directing me as I found myself twisting to the side while swinging my hands down, forcing the thug to bend over and giving me the perfect position to smash my knee into his solar plexus.
The guy let out a strangled gasp as he let go of the knife, only for me to snatch it out of the air and bury it into the side of his neck.
Another thug came at me from behind with a broken piece of table leg held like a bat.
I kicked the knife thug away and leaned back to avoid the swing before kicking him in the knee.
He lost his footing and dropped down on one knee. Before he could consider trying to get up, I swung my elbow to smash against his chin, knocking him out cold onto the floor.
I then took out my blaster from my holster and fired a round into his head, finishing him off.
The last idiot decided it was a good idea to leapt at me in an attempt to tackle me to the ground so I fired my pistol from the hip, nailing him in the chest twice before he was blasted back thanks to Lea’s coilgun hitting him in the head.
Seemed like I didn’t even need to shoot him at all.
A few more gunshots rang out from the floor above and a thug fell over the railing to crash down onto the floor a few feet away from me.
I picked up my gun and looked around, ready to fight off the next bunch of thugs, only to realise that everyone else was already dead, at least on this floor.
I looked up to see Amber peeking out from over the railing and giving me a thumbs up, showing that the level upstairs was also clear.
Guess that was it.
Ok… Now where were they putting the girls?
I looked around and realised that they must have been placed in one of the private rooms since those have doors that they can lock to prevent the girls from escaping.
I regrouped with Lea and Amber and pointed at the private rooms, both of them understanding what I wanted and followed me to start looking through the rooms for the girls.
Most of them had their doors busted down or were unlocked until I reached the one at the very end where I tried the door and found that it was locked shut.
Not a problem.
I connected my Codex to the door controls and hacked it to unlock it remotely, smiling when I heard the satisfying click of the door’s locks disengaging.
I then pushed open the door and found at least twenty girls all shoved inside the room huddled together in the corner looking quite terrified.
Well… I guess we found them.
