Chapter 167: Three Person Ambush
Well… Seems like we got hired to help him fight off some corporation’s elite assassin squad or whatever they are to buy time for the files to be sent.
I checked that my shotgun was properly loaded and adjusted my position behind the fallen shelf, waiting for the assassins to appear.
“All that money he syphoned and he didn’t even bother getting some automated defences for himself. Stupid,” Amber grumbled, also checking on her pistols beside me.
I silently agreed with her.
Like seriously… You already know that what you’re doing would be pissing off someone who would have no qualms about killing you if they knew what you were doing and the only defence you have is just a hidden door. Really?
I’d think even the previous gangs I had to deal with had better security than this…
The only good thing he had was his choice of base location because he had set up shop in the computer room of what used to be a storage warehouse but had since been abandoned.
That means attached to the room just a floor below us was a large room with plenty of cover and spots we could use to set up an ambush for our enemies while Lea could cover us from the top.
Right now, the both of us were huddled in our hiding spot watching the door ahead of us where the assassins would be coming from, preparing ourselves to spring the trap on them.
I had already had my shotgun loaded with the shield buster and slug rounds in an alternating order since the armour they were wearing looked to be pretty high quality and they should have shields too.
I would assume that to be the case since Bimic did confirm that these guys were supposed to be the elite enforcers or whatever they are called in that company.
He was even surprised that they had one stationed here since he claimed that this particular branch of the company wasn’t as big and should not have warranted such an elite force to be stationed here.
Then I pointed out the videos he managed to get from the servers and he admitted that it was probably because of that.
A few tense minutes passed as we waited for them to appear and I was just starting to think that they might have gotten lost when the door suddenly creaked open.
I kept my head low just as something was tossed out from the crack, the object bouncing on the floor once to fly up into the air right as the door shut itself again.
I quickly covered my ears and closed my eyes while Amber did the same as well, just in time to protect our senses from the flashbang as it exploded in the air.
Once the flash subsided and the ringing sound faded, I picked up my shotgun from where I had dropped it just as the door burst open to allow one of them to come through.
I immediately popped out from my hiding spot and fired a blast towards the first guy, catching him by surprise as he didn’t even have his gun in a position to shoot.
As I had predicted, they had personal shields as well and my first shield buster shot impacted the invisible wall around the first guy and shattered it like glass.
Amber followed up with a few shots from her pistol, one of it hitting him in the shoulder only to get deflected by the armour but the second shot magnificently piercing through the side of his neck.
The first guy fell to the ground, his body half blocking the door which caused the second guy who rushed in after him to trip over and stumble into the warehouse.
A shot came from above that would have pierced through his head but his shield saved him from that by expending all its energy and shattering to absorb the bullet shot by Lea.
That made him completely defenceless against my slug round which I ended up shooting at his head anyway and obliterated his face with it, the force of the blow sending him flying back towards the door.
The third guy that tried to enter the warehouse ended up getting knocked down by the second guy’s corpse, completely blocking the doorway and preventing the others from entering.
I then leapt out from my cover to switch positions, just so that the people behind them wouldn’t be able to pinpoint my location.
Amber did the same as well but she went in a different direction than I did, both of us seeking cover behind a pile of empty metal containers.
There was a loud click coming from behind the door before a hail of bullets shredded through the space that we had been earlier. It even ripped apart the shelf that we were using for cover like it was made of paper.
As if that wasn’t enough, another flashbang was thrown into the room and I had to take cover once again before it went off.
I ignored the ringing in my ears and popped out of cover to point my shotgun at the door right as the second wave of them poured in.
First shot shattered the shield of the lead guy and not even a second passed before he was shot through the head by Lea from above, killing him instantly.

“Sniper!!” One of them shouted out, only to receive several shots coming from his left as Amber peppered his shield with her bullets.
I have a feeling that their shields aren’t really the best either since it only managed to take four shots from Amber before it shattered, leaving that guy open to the slug round that I fired which blew his chest open.
I shifted my aim to the next one behind him, only to see that he already had the barrel of his gun pointed straight at me.
My mind was screaming at me to duck back down but I instinctively knew I would not be fast enough and prayed that my shield could hold up while I moved.
That proved to be unnecessary as a sniper shot shattered his shield and Amber blew a hole through his head at almost the same time.
Unfortunately, that meant Amber left herself vulnerable to the last guy through the door as he fired his machine gun at her which quickly shattered her weaker shield.
She tried to dive out of the way but one of the bullets hit her in the side as she went down, sending her crashing into a pile of debris.
I sucked in a breath and fired my shield buster round at the guy, only for his shield to tank the hit without shattering like I had thought it would.
He then shifted his aim towards Lea’s hiding spot and lit it up, forcing the Alv to take cover from the rain of bullets.
I fired the next shot at, hoping that my shield buster round had weakened his shield enough that my slug shot should shatter it.
But instead of taking the hit, the guy actually picked up one of his dead comrades with the blown off head to use as a shield, blocking my slug round from reaching him.
I was preparing to fire another shot when he swung his arm and levelled his machine gun in my direction, forcing me to dive back into cover just as he started firing.
My shield flared up as it absorbed a few hits but it managed to stay up, but that didn’t mean I was out of the fire yet as his machine gun was easily shredding through my cover as he continued to shoot at it.
I heard another shot go off which actually shattered his shield this time, forcing the machine gun guy to stop firing and seek cover from our sniper above him.
I tried to shoot at him as well but the bastard was still using his dead comrade as a shield to block my shots as he leapt over an overturned container to take cover.
It took me a moment to realise that was where Amber was and I hurried up to my feet to rush towards her in case he was aiming to finish her off.
That was when a few more gunshots rang out which did not belong to a machine gun but to two pistols instead.
I was just about to relax when I saw a shadow rush out from the doorway and head directly towards me.
My first instinct was to raise up my shotgun but the figure was faster as they smacked my gun away before thrusting something towards my face.
My body reacted and I shifted my head to the side, avoiding what appeared to be some kind of sword with a glowing edge from impaling my head.
I then felt a blow directed at my abdomen and I was sent flying back to crash into another shelf, giving me the chance to see who my attacker was.
It was another one of those armoured guys but he had a more sleek design to his armour and the blade I had seen was jutting out from his left arm, revealing the limb to be cybernetic.
Ah, he’s like those blade guys I faced back then… Well bring it, bitch.
