Chapter 169: We Should Leave Before They Come Again
I sent Amber back to report our success to Bimic while Lea and I started looting the area.
I already went ahead to claim that machine gun and I was wondering if there was a way to loot the blades from that blade guy too.
One of the most unfortunate things I found was that their shields were built into the armour they wore so unless we were willing to strip them, we wouldn’t be able to get it.
Which meant that we got busy and stripped all of them and placed their armour aside in a pile.
Then, while Lea went ahead to gather all the bodies in another pile to burn them while organising the rest of the loot, I went ahead to start stripping the shield generators from the armour pieces.
I was intending to have someone check what type of shield generators these were and if they were good enough, I might replace our current ones with these or just keep a few of them as backup and sell whatever that was left over.
As for the weapons, most of them were just using simple rifles so there wasn’t anything special about them and I was fully intent on just selling them away.
I was unfortunately not able to tear out the blades from that guy so I just let him burn with the rest.
They did have a few Credit Chips on them which I plugged into my Codex and transferred a total of twenty four thousand Credits into it. Not bad for just half a day’s work and that’s not even accounting for the extra five percent of the cut that Bimic promised us in order to hire us.
Seventy five percent of whatever that file would get him should be quite a significant number, given how happy that guy seemed to be when we saw the video on the files.
I was a little concerned that they might send another team after us but Amber told me over the comms that something like that was unlikely as they would definitely need time and resources to prepare another group.
These people that we wiped were most likely their fast response group where they would be prepared at all times to be sent out which was why they managed to respond to this so quickly.
Even though I trust her on that, I did not want to risk it either so I was trying to loot them as fast as I could.
What’s more, I also made sure to destroy whatever equipment we weren’t able to take with us in case there’s things like camera recordings on their armour which this company could retrieve and figure out our identities to take revenge on us.
I’m just hoping that there weren’t any live streams of the fight or we would be in trouble with them anyway.
I was worried that there might be trackers on the equipment we were taking but Amber assured me that it would be fine and she had a way to deal with it so I took her word for it.
With all the loot bundled up and everything else tossed into the fire to be burned, I went back to the hacker room with Lea following behind me.
When we returned, I saw that the file transfer had just completed and Bimic was finishing the last bit of his packing. The Decoder machine had also been prepped up to move on some kind of levitating trolley alongside with the rest of his tools piled on top of the machine.
Amber was seated by the side watching the entire thing, a hand still clutching her side which told me that she definitely felt pain coming from the wound but was too stubborn to admit it. I made a mental note to get her to rest later.
He saw us enter and flashed me a big grin, “Oh hey! Good job with those guys! I’ll be honest, I didn’t think you could beat them. Anyway, I just sent the file! They should be reviewing it right now and they’ll most likely send me the money after the–”
A call came from his personal terminal, interrupting him.
He paused to tap on it and a screen appeared in front of him, revealing a well dressed man that had his face hidden by a mask as the caller.
“Mister Bimic, those are very interesting files that you have sent to us. It seems like we were right in hiring you after all. We would like to extend our thanks for obtaining these files for us. What would you think about a payment of a hundred million Credits and an invitation to work as our dedicated specialist?”
Woah… That means seventy five million Credits for us? That’s a huge payout! We really hit the jackpot this time!
Bimic seemed to think so as well and quickly nodded his head, “You have a deal! I’ll be on the first ship out of here and heading directly back to the inner colonies!”
“No need for that, Mister Bimic. We shall arrange a transport for you. Just head to Theeve Orbital Habitat Station and the transport will pick you up from there.”
“Oh, I shall do that then!”
“Do you have any problems with our… Dear friend? My informants told me that their offices were quite riled up.”
“Ah… They sent a squad after me but I managed to take care of them, don’t worry about it.”
“Perfect. We shall be sending the payment soon and we will contact you once you are at the station. It was a pleasure working with you, Mister Bimic.”

The screen shut off and the guy punched his fists into the air before letting out a cheer.
“I’m rich! I’m rich!!”
Amber cleared her throat, “Ahem… Seventy five percent of that, please.”
The guy turned to her, “What? Seventy five per– Oh!! Ohhhh!! Of course, of course!! I’ll send it! I’ll send it! Don’t worry!”
Wow… Did this guy really forget about our agreement before Amber reminded him?
If he dares to back out of our deal after all that we’ve done… I’ll kill him myself.
On another note… The client offered to hire this guy as one of their specialists, didn’t he? But he didn’t even decrypt the files himself and neither did he take care of that hit squad himself either, so isn’t he being hired based on our achievements instead?
Eh… You know what? I don’t really care. It’s not like I’m interested in working for a corporation full time after I’ve seen all the scummy things they are doing so far.
And if Bimic thinks that this isn’t an issue… Then I don’t really care either.
After all, he’s the one who would have to deal with the consequences, not me. Just pay me that seventy five million Credits and we’re good to go.
And right on time too, as his personal terminal let out a beep informing him that a hundred million Credits had just been transferred to him.
He then dug out two Credit Chips which he plugged into his personal terminal one at a time, presumably to transfer the Credits he just received into them.
He then handed one of it to me and I immediately plugged it into my Codex to check the amount.
When I saw the amount of Credits inside my Codex jump up by seventy five million, I turned to Amber and Lea to give them a nod.
We have almost a hundred million Credits right now, that’s more than enough to get ourselves a more than decent C Class ship which we could use to transport all of us.
The only problem was where we could get one?
As though reading my thoughts, Amber spoke up, “We’ll probably need to head towards the inner colonies to look for a good ship manufacturer. They wouldn’t sell the good ones in the outer colonies.”
That made Bimic perk up, “Oh! If you girls are leaving… Would it be possible for me to hitch a ride to Theeve Orbital Habitat? You know… As a small freebie for getting all of you this nice payout?”
Both Lea and Amber turned to me, indicating that they would leave the decision to me.
I shrugged, “Why not? We could go there and visit Ma… Our mutual friend… While also getting some additional seeds and organic ingredients since we’re running low on that as well.”
Bimic raised an eyebrow, “Are you a noble or something?”
Amber scoffed, “Oh please. Did you even think before saying that? You’d already be dead for talking like that if that was really the case.”
“Ah… That’s what I thought but I wasn’t sure. But to think that Mercs like you would even think about buying organic ingredients to stock up your ship. You must have came from the inner colonies too, right?”
I only gave him a shrug since I didn’t really want to explain to him but he took that as a sign that I did not wish to reveal the truth.
He nodded before packing up the last of his items.
“Alright, I’m ready to go! I say we better get out of here as soon as we can before those guys come back!”
Agreed. Let’s go girls.
