Chapter 185: She Likes Big Guns
“And… I suppose that’s some kind of drug stall or something?” Ries explained lamely.
I also nodded halfheartedly at that explanation.
“And that one’s… I guess that one is selling some stolen stuff? I dunno.”
I gave another non-committal response to her words.
She then turned and pointed at another stall, “And that one is selling the newest XM-seven energy minigun! That piece can fire seven thousand rounds per minute and with a large enough battery pack, you could hold down the trigger for a solid three minutes before you need to reload it! In-built cooling systems would make sure that the weapon doesn’t overheat while it’s firing and you can even hotswap the cooling unit as well on the go! You can attach it as a shoulder mounted or even a wrist mounted weapon on a power armour or even mount it inside a ship as a point defence weapon! With eight barrels of– Ahem… Yeah… It’s a pretty cool gun.”
She stopped herself halfway through her explanation unprompted when she realised she had started rambling.
Yeah… I pretty much understood what kind of person she was within the last few minutes of meeting her.
After Amber showed the guards the footage that she had secretly taken of their argument, which I later learned the only reason why she recorded them was because she found it amusing, the guards took the raging salesman away for almost ruining the hotel’s business.
As Ries had promised, she started guiding us around the place although it was clear she was not that interested.
She would only just give half-hearted responses and barely explained anything in regards to the things being sold at those stalls.
That is… Until she comes across a stall that was either selling heavy weaponry or mechanical parts like power armour or ships.
Her face would light up and her eyes would sparkle as she told us everything she knew about the things being sold at the stall, just like what happened with that minigun earlier.
I’m not gonna lie…
That’s cute as hell.
And also… Why the hell wouldn’t I be interested in what she’s talking about? She was just about to tell me more about that minigun and it already sounds so cool!
I looked at her in surprise, “Eh? Wait, why did you stop? You were just talking about the eight barrels, right? What about them?”
She blinked at me, “The… Eight barrels?”
“Yeah? Something about the XM-seven energy minigun having eight barrels?”
“Ah… Ahh… Yeah!! The… The gun sports eight barrels made from specially drilled barrels that would ensure optimal accuracy with minimal bullet spread even with sustained fire! With its on board computer systems, you can even link it to your neural interface if you have one installed in your head to fire it remotely!”
I can just see the top of her hood twitch which was an indication of her ears twitching in excitement underneath it.
She’s soooo cute~
If only I could see her without the hood and watch her ears twitch around in real time. What a shame.
Still, I guess seeing her being so excited while talking about these guns was already a big plus.
She then skipped ahead and pointed at another store, “That one’s selling a B-three Velra multi-rocket launcher! Eight separate launch tubes with each one capable of being loaded separately and both lock on and dumb-fire capabilities! This baby is capable of shooting down a squadron of A Class fighters on its own or even a B Class Heavy fighter from the atmosphere with concentrated fire! Not only that, it also has a speed loader that you can use to load in all eight launch tubes in less than ten seconds! What’s more… Eh?”
She suddenly stopped talking of her own accord and her eyes widened when she saw something else.
Ries then rushed forward and stuck her face against one of the glass display cabinets of another store, causing the others around her to jump at her sudden appearance.
“Wooooow!! That’s Galactic Armaments’ P-five Autocannon!! I never thought I would be able to see one here!!”
We went over to her and I looked into the display case that was twice as long as I was tall and wide enough to have two people lay in it side by side.
Inside the display case was a cannon that was meant to be mounted on a ship and this one seemed to have gone through some custom job as there were custom designs and paint on the barrel and mount of the weapon.
What design, you ask? Of course they had an anime girl painted on it…

That didn’t seem to faze Ries though as she was practically salivating over the weapon while she pawed on the display case.
“Firing six hundred and fifty millimetre titanium sabot rounds capable of punching through even double layered plated armour on C Class ships! Boasting a fire rate of forty rounds a minute, it can render an unprotected ship into scrap within seconds! This one is even modded with a Talhreen autoloader that increases its rate of fire by fifteen percent and a Quick Target Acquisition System that allows it to automatically track targets! This is a gem! Hey, hey, is there a demonstration of this weapon being used?”
Ries was looking at the store owner with a pleading gaze.
In contrast, the store owner did not share her enthusiasm and waved at her dismissively, “Go away if you’re not planning to buy anything.”
The hooded girl pouted at him before huffing and storming away from the store with us following behind her.
Amber was snickering at the exchange but at least she did so quietly so I don’t think Ries noticed.
She next approached another stall and this one was selling slaves.
The Maochatte was obviously not interested in it so she was gesturing towards it with a flippant air, “Here we have one of those slave traders you guys are so proud of.”
The store owner quickly stepped out and greeted us with a smile, “Hello there! Are you perhaps interested in my wares? I have some good slaves available for sale! Be it labour slaves, sex slaves or crime slaves, I have them all!”
Ries looked pissed and was obviously about to tell him off when Amber stepped forward and asked, “Do you have any slaves that aren’t human?”
The store owner looked at Lea standing behind her and grinned, “A cultured one are you? I do, actually. They’re at the back. Would you like to take a look?”
Amber turned to me and I shrugged, showing that I did not mind either way.
She turned back to the store owner, “Alright, let’s see what you got then.”
“Of course, of course! Right this way!”
He gestured for us to follow him and we fell in step behind him, with Ries clearly not happy about our decision.
“Are you girls crazy?” She whispered in a hurry. “This is clearly a trap! He’s going to bring all of you out of sight and then have some people jump out and demand you give up your Alv to him! Then afterwards he’ll put her up on sale again and force you to buy her back!”
“Oh we know~” Amber whispered back.
Wait, we do? Because I actually thought he was bringing us to his secret stash of slaves where he would be showing us non human slaves for us to peruse.
I obviously didn’t plan on getting a new slave at this time but if he had someone that I felt would be an asset to our team, I would not be against purchasing them either.
So you’re really telling me that this is actually a trap?
God damn it… And here I thought I would be able to see other aliens…
Ries then frowned, “If you know that it’s a trap… Why are you even following him there? We should just get out of here right now before he–”
“In here now. I assure you that my slaves are all top quality and you would not be disappointed by them!” He called out, opening a door that seemed to lead to an unused store room for us.
Ries took a step back, “Oh no… I’m good. I’m just here as their guide so I’ll just wait outside for them. You can all just go in without me.”
“That wouldn’t do. We can’t have one of our guests be treated so discourteously, could we?”
The store owner then clapped his hands together and four large sized men came out from their hiding spots and surrounded us in a semicircle, cutting off our escape route.
All of them were unarmed but they cracked their knuckles threateningly, showing us that they were not above using violence to get us through the door.
Amber chuckled, “What are you being shy for? They’re already inviting us in to see their wares so let’s all just go and take a look!”
The store owner chuckled, “Of course, of course! Just step this way please~”
Oh boy… What did I get myself involved in this time?
