Chapter 195: There’s Really Fresh Meat On The Menu
Just saying, this isn’t a case where some guy got in an accident and is dead on the floor.

This is a dead, human body that was purposely stripped of all clothes and had meat hooks pierced through his back to string him up on a chain like he was just another piece of meat behind the glass window.

This was no accident for sure…

Wait… Unless it was a machine stringing all these pieces of meat up and this worker fell into the machine by accident?

Ok… I can actually see that happen– Wait a fucking minute…

I went closer and realised that the entire back row of the meat fridge was entirely filled with corpses.

Holy fuck… There’s at least a dozen dead bodies being strung up over there…

And actually… Upon closer inspection… These animal carcasses… They’re fake…

What the fuck is going on? Why are they hanging fake animal meat here?

Ok… Calm down… Think about it rationally… Yeah…

I actually can figure out several reasons on why these things are even here.

I already knew that this place is a front for some criminal group and they’re doing various illegal stuff over here.

So if I had to guess, they must have various enemies targeting them from both sides of the law. And since these guys aren’t that set on following the law, they might go for the most efficient way of getting rid of their problems.

I’m guessing these guys got killed and their bodies are being kept here to be disposed of later.

Yeah… That makes much more sense…

I’m just going to step away from here and pretend I never saw this at all…

Well, that just means I have to keep to the packaged meats though… Which I felt was a downgrade from what I had bought the previous time.

I went over to the aisles of packaged meats and picked one of the packages up, only to pause when I saw what was on the package.

This is synthmeat… Not organic meat…

I started looking through the other shelves and found every single one of them was just synthmeat, there’s no organic meat here at all.

Huh… Did Steiner bring me to the wrong room?

I walked over to the old man who was still moping in front of the wall. Seriously though, how long are you going to stay like this?

“Hey… Steiner? There’s no organic meat here.”

He groaned and turned to me, “Right… Yeah… They’re at the back… You’ll need the machine to cut the meat for you… The controls are over there…”

He gestured to the spot nearby where a console as well as a conveyor belt was located.

There was a steel shutter behind the belt so I assume that I just select what meat I want and there’ll be machines behind that would process the meats for me? That’s convenient.

I went over to the console panel and looked at the choices on the screen. There seems to be multiple different types of meat available and you could even select what type of cut you want.

That’s pretty cool.

Let’s see… I guess I can just try it out first.

I tapped on the screen to select a ‘tenderloin cut’ and the machine started whirring in the back.

Wait… Why do I hear chains rattling from the direction of the fake carcasses?

I turned towards the source of the noise and it seemed like there were some movements over there for some reason?

Wait, wait, wait! No fucking way! This is not happening, is it?!

I rushed towards the back of the room and found there was another metal shutter that had opened up and the very back row was being fed through the opening.

The back row where the corpses were…

I pressed myself against the glass to try and get a better view and sure enough, I spotted one of the corpses disappearing through the opening before the metal shutter slid closed.

There was the sound of machinery operating behind the shutter and I was trying to think if there was just actual animal meat being processed behind there and these just happened to be at the end of the line.

That was when the shutter opened and the chain reversed, revealing the corpse that had gone through was now missing one of his legs.

No fucking way…

I rushed back to the conveyor belt just as the shutter behind the conveyor belt opened and several pieces of meat came out on a tray.

I stared at it, wondering how exactly I should feel about this.

Taking a step towards the conveyor belt, I took a closer look at the meat to make sure that I was not mistaken and this actually came from that corpse’s leg and it wasn’t just a coincidence.

As much as I didn’t want to, I didn’t find any gloves around so I had to use my hands to slowly piece the meat together and I found myself looking at what looked like a really crude section of a calf.

A human calf, that is…

Ugh… I need to wash my hands… Why isn’t there anywhere to wash hands here? Are there no such things as health codes here?

Putting the tray of human meat aside, I decided to try again just to be sure.

This time, I tapped on a different type of meat and the same sounds started once again.

I immediately made a rush towards the end to press myself against the glass just to see the metal shutter lift up and the same corpse brought inside via the chain before the door shut itself.

Then it was just the whirring sounds of heavy machinery before the shutter opened up to spit the corpse back, this time with both of its legs missing.

Fuck…

I went back to the conveyor belt just as the tray of meat was brought out, cut in the exact same way as the first one despite me tapping on a different cut of meat on the console.

This confirms it…

This fucking place is feeding their guests fucking human flesh and passing it off as organic meat… Is this how they get rid of their enemies?

Holy fucking shit…

I set the pan aside and went over to Steiner, my fist clenched behind me.

“Steiner?” I called out to the chef.

He turned and looked at me with the usual lifeless eyes, “Are you done here then?”

I shook my head, “I just wanna ask where do you get your organic meat from?”

He actually straightened himself and turned to face me, “I… Don’t really know. I’m not the one who orders them. Is there something wrong with it? Don’t tell me I fucked up in that too?”

I stared at him for a moment and I realised he was genuinely clueless about it.

“When do you normally come here to get meat?” I asked.

“I don’t. It’s usually one of the servers who would come get it if we get an order for meat dishes. But I do have the authority to come down here, of course.”

“So… You would send someone down here to get the meat?”

“Normally yes. They would use that machine over there to cut out the organic meat and then deliver it back up to the kitchen for us to prepare. In fact, your steak would have been made from that.”

Oh fuck, fuck, fuck… We almost ate human meat! What the fuck?!

Ok, I’m panicking a little here because now I’m questioning if all the meat we’ve had so far were actually what they were supposed to be or if we had also unknowingly consumed human flesh as well? This is so fucked up.

I wondered if I should tell Steiner the truth for a moment. Then I decided that it might not be a good idea since I wasn’t sure how he would react and how the syndicate behind this hotel would react if they knew that I knew what was going on down here.

That’s why I’ll just go ask Mara and the others instead.

I shook my head, “I think your meats look a little… Bad… So maybe you need to order in some fresh ones or something… Don’t use anymore of them and just throw them away.”

“Ah… I see… I’ll let the people in charge know then… Thanks for telling me. I guess that means you’re not taking any meat?”

“Yeah… I’ll just go back and take some of your fish if you don’t mind?”

“Right. Of course. This way then.”

I followed him out of the room and hoped that everyone after us that was supposed to be fed with this would be able to avoid eating that…

Fuck… Was this a one time thing or have they been doing this ever since the beginning? Are those corpses really their enemies or did they go out and catch some people to slaughter and hang there as their meat?

I need to find the other girls right now…
