Chapter 224: Moving To The Next Circle
Checking my map, the next circle would be in the centre of the city area where a stadium of sorts was located.
Lea caught up with us which wasn’t a difficult thing to do considering how slow Ries was moving with that big gun of hers.
Yes, I know she has two relatively big guns on her chest as well but I wasn’t referring to that one in this case…
I activated my drone again and it seems like it recognises your teammates so it would not fire at them without my input.
We were also intentionally moving through the back alleys to avoid meeting other contestants as much as possible. And since there wasn’t some kind of board to show how many players are still remaining, I didn’t want to put ourselves in a big fight right now.
I checked the map again and it looks like Amber was currently inside the stadium itself so that works for us.
We’re planning to head there and find somewhere that we could hunker down in order to make the best use of Ries’s loadout.
Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to remain inconspicuous, it seems like there were also other teams who had the same idea so we would run into them while making our way to the stadium from time to time.
Still, it was better than moving out there because by the sounds of what was going on in the middle of the city, it really seemed like an all out war was going on.
“Careful now, I’m pretty sure there’s quite a number of people there already,” I warned.
Ries hefted her minigun, “Nyahahaha! Anyone that comes along would get shot up by this baby! Don’t worry Boss!”
Speaking of which…
“How did you know it was me so quickly?”
She shrugged, “I don’t really know how to explain but when I saw you I already kind of knew. Maybe it’s part of the system or something?”
Hmm… I’m not so sure about that but maybe it’s something instinctual?
I was just about to ask if she had any skill cards when my drone suddenly spun around and started shooting behind us.
This wasn’t the first time it happened so all of us reacted immediately to it.
Lea and I dove for cover while Ries turned around and activated the shield on her minigun.
Several gunshots rang out from down the alley where we had just come from, the bullets ricocheting off the walls though none managed to hit us.
One of our attackers was caught completely by surprise by my drone as he was literally standing in the middle of the alley and out of any cover.
While my drone did whittle down his shield, it was not enough to break it so he was still standing. For now.
I lined up my rifle with the target and fired a three round burst at him, shattering his shield. That was followed by another three round burst where two hit him in the chest and the last one went through his head, eliminating him.
His two teammates were not as stupid as he was and were already in cover but they definitely weren’t counting on my drone alerting us to their presence before they were ready to fire.
Seeing Ries’s minigun rev up, both of them decided that taking cover was a better idea than trying to shoot back so they immediately ducked before the rain of bullets sprayed towards them.
“Nyahahahaha!! Why are you hiding now?! Come out and die you bitches!!!”
Not gonna lie, I actually kind of dig this version of Ries as well. She’s kind of hot.
Lea had her sniper trained on them, ready to shoot at them the moment they popped up.
I briefly considered throwing a grenade but I wanted to save them for the stadium encounters instead of using them here if I could help it.
Thus, I crouched back down behind my cover and placed my rifle on the floor before willing a monitor to appear in front of me.
Responding to my thoughts, an actual monitor was constructed right in front of me before dropping in my hands, allowing me to control the drone remotely from where I was.

I immediately familiarised myself with the controls and flew the drone up into the air, flying above the hail of bullets Ries was shooting.
From that angle, I could see the two men that were crouched behind the low wall, seemingly communicating with each other via hand signals while they avoided the energy bullets currently suppressing them.
As I considered who I should shoot first, one of them pulled out a ball shaped object and I instantly knew he wanted to throw a grenade.
I used the monitor to aim the drone at him just as he pushed his thumb on the activator and fired the drone’s machine gun at him.
He jerked in surprise at being hit, flinching back in surprise as his shield got drained.
The fact that he was being hit surprised him so much that he even forgot he had the grenade in his hands and dove onto the ground in an attempt to avoid my drone’s gun fire.
I could see his teammate reaching out to the grenade he had dropped in a panic right before it exploded, sending both of them flying back from the impact.
Lea immediately fired a shot that accurately pierced through the grenade guy’s head and eliminated him while the second guy flew right into Ries’s bullet rain, shredding himself into pieces.
I turned my drone around and was just about to relax when I saw two more guys appearing from down the alley around the corner through the monitor.
Lifting my head up from the monitor, I realised one of them was already moving into position to raise his rifle to point at me.
I dropped my monitor which caused it to disintegrate into digital particles and picked up my own weapon to shoot in his direction.
I wasn’t planning to hit him but the fact that I fired first made him hesitate as he opted to lean back around the corner instead of shooting.
Ries and Lea heard my shots and also turned around, switching our targets to the two guys that had tried to sneak an attack on us from behind.
I changed the drone’s mode to sentry and moved up, rolling myself behind a low wall to act as cover before popping up to fire a few shots into the corner the two guys were hiding behind.
That gave Lea the covering fire she needed to move to a more suitable cover as well, while Ries simply walked forward with her minigun still pointed in their direction.
This time, instead of suppressing them, Ries continued walking up to them while I kept my suppression on them since they were just a short distance away from us.
She turned the corner and I could pretty much guess that the cat girl, who was one head shorter than I was, had a big grin on her face when she found the two guys hiding around the corner.
“Surprise, fuckers!” She laughed.
She pulled the trigger on her minigun and eviscerated the poor guys who were unfortunate enough to be at the other end of her gun.
“Nyahahahaha! Die, die, dieeee!!! You thought you could sneak up on us huuuuuh?! Fucking die!!”
Lea leaned towards me, “Is she ok?”
“I think she just really likes to shoot big guns.”
“Hmm…”
Ries stopped shooting before waving at us cheerily, “All clear Boss! Let’s go! Let’s go! I think there’s more people over there that I can shoot at!”
Yeah… She really, really likes to shoot big guns.
Just as I was about to stand up, I saw something drop down from above right in front of me.
I didn’t even get to see what it was before Lea rushed towards me and smacked the thing away with the butt of her rifle like she was hitting a homerun.
That ‘thing’ turned out to be a grenade as it exploded shortly after it flew away, not close enough to do damage to us but still close enough that the shockwave sent us stumbling back a step.
Ries let out a shout before she started to rev up her minigun again, firing at the roof above us.
I’m guessing that was where our attacker came from so I activated my active camouflage skill and deactivated my drone before shooting my grapple at the ledge, pulling myself up towards the roof.
I found a guy backing away from the ledge while looking uneasy, clearly not expecting his ambush to end in failure.
He did not notice me as I snuck towards his side and pulled out the laser sword that I looted from the other guy.
As soon as I managed to get within range of him, I slashed the sword across his neck, which I had expected to be a one hit kill.
Unfortunately, that seemed to only take a chunk of his health away so he was still alive and he tried to turn around to see who attacked him.
Fortunately, I was faster than he was and sliced him a second time, this time successfully eliminating him.
A sword needs two hits? This is so bullshit…
Whatever, let’s find Amber already…
