Chapter 227: The Pros Are Coming Out
I fired another shot at the guy who was shooting at us from behind the wall, my bullet hitting him in the head and adding another kill to my roster.
I ducked back into my cover and reloaded while taking a moment to check the map.
The circle was already closing up and everyone was gradually moving towards the field on the stadium.
Some had thought it would be a good idea for them to move there early and bunker up, only for the others to pick them off one by one, making the field a killzone.
That basically meant that all the survivors were still concentrated in the stands area and everyone was just slowly making their way towards the field while moving cover to cover and shooting at anyone who was caught outside.
While I was leading my group closer to the next circle, I was also keeping an eye out for the position of the remaining teams. I was hoping that I could find a large group of them bunched up together so that I could make use of the airstrike skill I’ve looted.
It’s a single use skill so I did not want to waste it on just killing a single enemy with it.
As we neared the edge of our side of the stadium, I found four other teams that were also nearby and heading towards the edge where I had wanted to go.
We saw one another at almost the same time when we vaulted over the low wall that acted as dividers for separating each section of the stadium. We had missed seeing them before that since there were walls that divided the stadium into different quadrants in between us.
Three of those teams chose to rush forward to secure fighting positions while myself and another team chose to leap back where we had come from to hunker down instead.
Several bullets were shot in my direction but I managed to duck my head down behind the wall before they hit me.
The rest of my party also gathered at the wall, all of us waiting for the team aiming at us to stop firing before we would pop out and return fire at them.
We didn’t need to wait long as the other teams started shooting at each other which forced them to respond to the new threat, giving us the chance to start shooting from behind our cover.
Ries was not using her minigun this time as she had opted to use her grenade launcher instead.
She raised the launcher and shot one of the explosives out towards one of the three teams that were crouched behind several benches.
The grenade flew in a high arc and landed right in the middle of that group, exploding spectacularly and sending the group flying in all directions from the explosion.
I was about to take aim at one of the poor guys who was sent flying when a red streak flew through the air and sliced up all of them in one go.
The red streak even continued towards one of the other teams and decapitated the entire group before they could react.
The red streak stopped as the two teams disappeared into particles, revealing it to be a person holding a sword with a red energy blade which I assumed to be the source of the red streak.
Did he just wipe out two teams in an instant with that sword?
He then turned his gaze towards the third team that had chosen to run towards the outskirts of the stadium seats, which made me realise this guy wasn’t even part of the four teams I had seen earlier and was a solo contestant.
That team of four members tried to shoot at him, two of them using assault rifles, one of them with a shotgun and the last guy using a light machine gun.
A rain of bullets pierced through the air and I thought that would be the end of that sword guy but he defied our expectations by spinning his sword in front of him quickly, deflecting the bullets away.
Wait, you can do that?! Can I do it with my sword too?!
The sword guy then flipped himself into the air, leaping over the hail of bullets before his figure suddenly changed into a red blur once again, streaking towards the team that shot at him.
The shotgun guy was the first to get slashed and he instantly disappeared from a single blow.
Hey?! Wait a minute! What the hell?! Why does his sword only need one slash while mine needed two?! This is unfair!
Heedless of my internal protests, he spun around and slashed his sword at the light machine gun guy, his blade slicing through his head.
I thought that would also be a one hit kill but surprisingly it was not.
The sword guy did not look surprised as he was already in the motion of bringing his sword back around to deliver another slash through his opponent’s torso, completing the kill this time.

I’m guessing he can only do that one hit kill thing with that red blur effect, which I believe to be a skill of his.
The two remaining teammates spun around to aim their rifles at him, only to get entangled with each other due to their close proximity and preventing either of them from taking aim at the sword guy.
The sword guy seemed to have expected that as he didn’t hesitate to spin himself in a half circle, slashing his sword through the torso of both of his enemies before swinging it back to slash them a second time, eliminating both of them instantly.
“Concentrate fire on him!” I ordered, lifting my rifle to take aim.
The other team that had also chosen to take cover on the other side of the war also opened fire at the same time as we did, both of us realising the threat that this guy posed to us.
He spun around while swinging his sword in a wild dance, deflecting away our shots that would have hit him while dodging the others.
His skill must have also finished its cool down as he leapt into the air once more before his figure blurred into a red streak once again, this time shooting towards the other team.
“Jump over! We need to help them!” I called out.
Oh no, I wasn’t doing this out of the kindness of my heart. I fully intend to wipe out the other team as well but I figured that attacking him while he was occupied with the other team would give us a better chance instead of just facing him alone.
The girls obeyed without question, all of us jumping over the low wall to turn towards the section where the other team was.
He had already cut down one of them while the other three were trying their best to shoot him down.
It seems like this team had the sense to spread out instead of staying together like the other team so they were not taken out as quickly.
We did the same as well and I slammed a new magazine into my assault rifle before I started shooting at him.
The sword guy dashed forward in a red blur, dodging through our shots to slice up another guy before he turned to start his sword dance again.
Ries reloaded her grenade launcher and fired it towards him, intentionally aiming at the ground near his feat.
The sword guy saw the grenade coming and spun forward, the side of his sword smacking against the grenade to send it flying back towards us.
“Take cover!” I warned, diving away from the impact zone.
I managed to avoid the blast but Ries was too slow and ended up having to activate her shield to tank the blast instead.
At least that only broke the extra shield and left her relatively unharmed.
When I got up again, I saw the guy stabbing his sword through the head of the last guy on the other team, effectively wiping their team out.
He then turned his gaze towards me and I felt a chill run up my spine.
As he raised his sword, the world around me seemed to slow down and my body reacted faster than I knew what was going on.
I dropped the assault rifle in my hands and pulled out my own energy sword, holding the blue blade up to be parallel to my body.
It seemed like I had managed to hold it up just in time too as the sword guy changed into a red streak to flash towards me, only for his blade to smash into my own and send me skidding back a few feet.
I managed to stay on my feet while maintaining my pose, which surprised the guy considerably as he was just standing there with his sword held in a slashing pose while staring at me.
Hey, don’t look at me, I don’t know how I managed to block the blow as well.
Just as I was about to engage him in close combat, a shot rang out and a sniper round pierced through his head, killing him instantly.
Damn Lea… Here I thought I would be having an intense one on one sword fight here… But thanks.
Guess I’ll take his sword and that dashing skill of his~
Still… It seems like I’ve been underestimating the people here. I should be expecting the ones who have survived so far to be pretty skilled like this guy.
Guess we’re going to need to be extra cautious.
