Chapter 303: Stealth Ships
The railgun was the first to fire, the kinetic projectile flying towards its target at blinding speeds.
One of it pierced through the centre of a ship, splitting it into half down the middle.
The projectile did not stop there but continued its path until it reached Lea’s real target: One of the defence turrets on the asteroid.
The kinetic round blasted through the side of the turret, shredding through the metal right before the entire turret blew up in an impressive explosion. I’m guessing that must have blew up its ammo storage or something?
At this point, you might be wondering why we weren’t just blowing the entire station up using the ship’s guns. That’s because we have another goal for this little raid of ours.
“Careful now… I need some people alive to figure out which bastard set this place up. Don’t kill all of them,” Mara warned.
Lea scoffed, “I won’t hit something I’m not aiming at.”
I pushed on the button to activate the ship’s intercom systems, “Ries–”
“I’m here boss! Don’t worry about the ship! I’ll pilot it properly!”
I almost jumped out of my seat when she appeared at my side unexpectedly with an excited look on her face, her tail swishing behind her.
Just as I was wondering why she looked so excited, Lea fired another railgun shot and my Maochatte immediately turned to stare out the window to watch the kinetic shell blow through another ship.
Ah… that explains why she got here so quickly.
Alright then…
I nodded at Mara and she stood up from her seat to follow me down to the hangars.
As I passed through the security checkpoint, I found my weapons and ammunition already properly laid out on the security counter for me to equip myself with them.
I silently thanked Amber for this as I snatched them from the counter before continuing towards the hangar with Mara.
Just as I reached the hangar, I heard Amber’s voice coming from my Codex.
“I’ll be launching ahead first, Tera!”
“Got it, be careful,” I answered her while running up the ramp into The Verlandi.
I jumped into the pilot seat and started up the engines while Mara moved to strap herself in behind me.
“Ries, we’re preparing to launch,” I announced through the comms.
Her enthusiastic voice came from the console in front of me, “Got it! Opening the hangar doors!”
There was a low hum as the hangar doors below us slid open, the shield in front of the door preventing the air in the hangar from being vented out.
I looked behind me at where Mara was seated, “I think this might be a little too late to ask but… Do you have a weapon?”
She pulled her doctor’s coat to the side, which I was secretly wondering why she was still wearing it despite not being in the clinic anymore, to reveal a holster with a pistol at her waist.
Well, I suppose it’s better than being disarmed.
“Boss! Green light for launch!”
“Roger that, Verlandi away!”
“Nyaaa! So cool!!” Ries squealed, forgetting to turn off the comms before she did so.
I decided to ignore that and simply hit the launch button that dropped my ship out of the hangar and into open space.

I fired up my engines and boosted away from the ship just as Lea fired another shot from the railgun, blowing up another of the smugglers’ ships.
The rest had managed to scatter and escape into the asteroid field, using the rocks to hide from Lea.
I believe there should be at least three more ships, though that’s assuming they didn’t have a few more hiding somewhere else within that group of asteroids.
“Hold on tight,” I warned, right before allocating full power to engines and rocketing us towards the asteroids.
The G force of the acceleration pushed me back in my seat as we accelerated towards the asteroid field where Amber was already close to reaching.
In the distance, I saw Amber suddenly dip her ship down and I wondered if her ship was suffering some kind of malfunction when a ship suddenly materialised beside her.
A laser beam was then fired from the ship, piercing through the space that Amber had been in just a moment ago.
I powered up my photon laser and fired at the ship that just appeared, burning a hole through its hull like it was made of paper.
It seems like either the ship didn’t have shields or the pilot didn’t turn it on.
That shot was enough to cripple the ship as it went careening off to crash into one of the asteroids, the front of the ship crumpling into itself as it smashed into the rock.
“Amber?! Are you alright?” I cried into the comms.
“I’m fine!” She cried back, regaining control of her ship to circle around.
“Tch… To think they would even deploy stealth ships… This was definitely planned by someone to draw me here…” Mara muttered from behind.
I bit back a curse before tapping on the comms again, “Ries, do a wide area scan and patch the ship’s scan results to us!”
“I’m on it, Boss!!”
I switched my power allocation and powered my shields and weapons, right as the wide area scan from Ries was activated.
Looking down at my screen that showed the map of the area, I pursed my lips as about twenty to thirty new dots appeared on my map, indicating that there was something there.
Since there was an asteroid field right in front of us, some of it might belong to the asteroids and not indicative of a ship being there, but I would say it’s safe to assume there’s at least a dozen or so more enemies than we thought.
“Lea! I’m leaving our backs to you! Cover us!” I instructed.
“I have you, Mistress.”
Trusting her, I pushed my ship’s throttle forward and boosted away.
The smugglers must have realised that their trick was discovered since three more ships dropped like cloaking to start firing at both Amber and me.
Amber weaved her ship through the rain of lasers and kinetic shells while I tanked them in order to return fire with my energy chainguns.
The three ships scattered, their ships surprisingly nimble as their thrusters boosted them away from my bullets.
I was just about to switch to my photon laser to target one of them when an even bigger laser shot past my ship, piercing through two of them and blowing them apart.
The third one seemed to panic and tried to turn around when a barrage of autocannon rounds peppered the ship from the side and shredded it into pieces.
I couldn’t help but grin at the comms, “Thanks for the assist, Lea.”
“You are welcome, Mistress.”
Another two more cloaked ships materialised above the wrecks of their comrades and fired their lasers at me.
My shield flared to life as it blocked the shots while I rolled out of their firing arc before pulling the trigger the moment I saw my aiming reticle line up with one of them.
My photon laser pierced through the space in between us and scored a direct hit on the side of one of the ships, burning open a hole through its hull until it came out from the other side.
The ship’s engines sputtered and died to drift into space while the other ship boosted sideways in an attempt to get out of my firing arc.
Unfortunately for him, I had a rotatable railgun turret above my ship and I was already using it to track him.
As soon as his ship slowed down, I activated the railgun and fired a kinetic shell straight into the cockpit of the ship.
I got to watch the entire front of the ship explode into debris from the impact while it spun uncontrollably into another asteroid to crash into it.
When I turned my attention back towards the front however, I realised I had no time to celebrate my double kill as another stealth ship just dropped its cloak to bear its weapons at me.
Before either of us could even fire, their ship was suddenly torn apart by a hail of kinetic rounds right before Amber flew past with her afterburners at full power.
“More of them coming from below, Tera!” She warned over the comms.
I rolled my ship to point downwards and sure enough, there were two more that had been chasing after Amber.
They realised too late that Amber had led them into a trap before I let loose a hail of energy bullets from my chainguns, shredding the two ships apart.
One of them had their engines explode on them while the other simply broke into two as its hull integrity was compromised.
I spun back around to look for another enemy but then I realised that the space around us was suddenly quiet.
Both Amber and I waited for a moment as Ries initiated another wide area scan.
“Boss. The pings correlate to the positions of the asteroids. I think we got all of them.”
Alright, I guess it’s time to storm the base!
