Chapter 314: Things Are Running Smoothly
I looked out of the bridge as the stars streaked past, taking a moment to enjoy the sight.
While I was lost in my thoughts, I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist to hug me from behind.
“What are you thinking about?” Amber asked, leaning her chin on my shoulder.
“Mmm… Nothing, really.”
She pressed herself closer to cuddle against my back, “Well~ Wanna guess what I’m thinking about?”
“Hmm… Probably something like pulling me to the bedroom and then having your way with me?”
“Ehehe~ While that sounds really tempting, I was actually thinking about wanting to kiss you~”
I chuckled and I turned around to face her.
Amber looked up at me and both of us stared into each other’s eyes for a moment.
I could see the stars streaking across space behind me reflected in her eyes, which only made her look more ethereal in the light.
Our lips parted before we leaned forward at the same time.
I kissed her deeply, enjoying the taste of her lips thoroughly before we broke the kiss.
“Ahem~”
Both of us jumped at the unexpected sound and turned to see Mara standing there with two cups in her hand.
She cocked an eyebrow, “Is this how you’re usually like around her?”
Amber scoffed, “Oh please, why don’t you tell us what you have over there?”
Mara shrugged, “It’s apparently tea. The organic kind.”
I widened my eyes, “Wait… Organic tea? Where did we even get those?”
“Lea apparently got some during her shopping spree I believe. She got some to plant in that garden of hers too and she told me to brew this as a test batch for you, Captain.”
I still can’t get used to Mara calling me that but she insisted on doing so since she was now part of the crew.
She walked up to me and handed me one of the cups.
Amber looked at the other cup in Mara’s hands and frowned, “What? None for me?”
Mara lifted the cup to her lips to look at her over the top of the cup, “Who are you?”
“Oh, you fucking bitch.”
I looked into the cup to realise it was green tea and it smelled… Just like tea.
I guess I should have expected something like that since she did say this was organic instead of one of those synthfood stuff.
Here goes nothing I guess?
I lifted the cup to my face and took a whiff and enjoyed the aroma of the tea before bringing it to my lips to taste the tea.
Oh… This is actually pretty good.
“Tera~”

I turned to the side and found Amber looking up at me and trying to look meek and sad.
Well… I already knew what she wanted so I passed her the cup of tea.
Amber took it from me with both hands and brought the cup up to her lips to take a sip.
“You spoil her too much, Captain. She’s going to end up being useless at this rate.”
“Mmmm~ Tera doesn’t mind me being useless~ Right Tera?” Amber moaned, passing the cup back to me before wrapping her arms around mine.
“I would actually prefer that you did not make yourself useless… Anyway, I’ll leave the bridge to the both of you, alright? I want to go check on the others.”
Amber stuck out her tongue at me, “Do I have to? Can’t I go with you instead?”
“No, be good, ok?” I chuckled, leaving the two of them on the bridge while I descended the stairs with my cup of tea in hand.
I know that despite how they talk smack about each other, they do care about the other party quite a bit. Otherwise, they would not know so much about each other nor would they even be willing to bathe together.
Yeah, I didn’t even ask Amber to do it and she had volunteered to show her how the bath works all on her own.
I’m pretty sure they were in a relationship before Amber left on her own, either amicably or on bad terms.
I kind of want to ask them about it but I guess I’ll wait until Mara has been here for a little longer and perhaps watch their interaction for myself first.
I left through the door and turned right towards the hydroponics room.
It has almost been a day since we’ve left the Theeve system and I dare say that we should be in the clear now.
Even if they suspected Mara had escaped from the system, they would not know where she went anyway.
I guess the only person who they could use to find us is that guy who tried to sell those boxes of human organs to me, whom I’m pretty sure had run off the station the very same day.
Although… Amber and Mara did say that they missed out on dealing with some stuff after that and disappeared for about ten minutes before returning to the ship so maybe they got seen by others?
Well… I trust the both of them knew what they were doing so I wasn’t too worried about it.
The doors slid open and I entered the hydroponics room, pausing there to look at the state of the room.
Just a few days ago, this room was completely empty before Lea’s stuff got delivered here.
And now, I see a small section of the room had been set up with some contraptions which looked like some kind of high tech hydroponics farm.
There were a few ‘shelves’ that had pipes running around it at each level from top to bottom, forming five tiers of these pipes with lights that illuminate each tier individually.
And right now, there were about ten of these shelves with each one growing a different type of crop.
One I recognised were potatoes since I’ve planted them myself before.
Lea was currently bent over one of the farms and she seemed to be in the midst of planting a new batch of plants into one of the pipes.
I went over to Lea, “Hey Lea~”
She turned her head and smiled at me before nodding at the cup in my hand, “Mistress. How is the tea?”
“It’s nice actually. I’m honestly surprised that I didn’t find this before.”
She went back to placing what looked like small saplings into the pipes, “It’s quite hard to find them in human shops so I was really lucky to find that shop actually had them.”
I raised an eyebrow, “Why is that? Do people hate tea now or something?”
“Oh no. Organic tea leaves are still a thing, even though synth tea is more used now. Tea is almost exclusively being grown by Alvs while humans predominantly grow coffee plants actually. So to find a few tea shrubs being sold in that shop… I believe they either bought, stole or received an order from an Alv who never went to get it… Or this is just a plant that looks like a tea shrub.”
Huh… Interesting…
“Why don’t you grow coffee though?” I asked.
She spun around to look at me with wide eyes, “Oh… Does… Does Mistress like coffee?”
“Oh no, I don’t. I actually prefer tea. I’m just wondering why coffee is still predominantly being grown by humans? Do Alvs not like coffee or something?”
She let out a sigh of relief before grimacing, “Actually… I would say that most Alvs do prefer tea over coffee… But I would attribute that to the fact that most never really drank coffee before and mostly drank tea throughout their lives. The reason for that is that it’s easier for us to grow tea as compared to coffee on our colony ships.”
Ah… I guess this has something to do with the hydroponics thing or something?
I took another sip of the tea, “Mmm… Well I have to say that this is definitely nice. Though I wonder how you managed to get all of this set up so quickly? Seems like you’ve already got a couple of them growing too.”
“I did use my powers a little just to get them going, Mistress. Some of them had been in a seed form and I didn’t find any horticubes or anything equivalent on the station so I decided to just make them skip the seedling stage.”
I looked around again and I realised that most of them already had bright green leaves growing out of the pipes, almost like they have already been planted and growing for a few weeks.
Well… It certainly is quite a useful power to have.
“Do you have more of this tea though?”
Lea stood up and wiped her hands with a towel, “Does Mistress want more tea? I can go and prepare more for you if you want.”
“Oh, I know how to prepare tea so you can just tell me where you kept them.”
She paused, “Ah… Right. I forgot you’re not from this Universe. In that case, it’s in the cabinet above the stove.”
“Right, thanks. I’ll leave you to your garden, then. Let me know if you need anything.”
“Not a problem, Mistress.”
Well, that’s one new thing I learned about this universe.
