Chapter 319: Organic Food Got Hip Here
I moved through the streets of Denibi station alone, weaving my way through the crowd to head towards the club that belonged to the Rattlers.
Walking up to the nightclub’s entrance, the two guards narrowed their eyes on me and this time they didn’t stop me like the first time I came here.
I guess I must have been added to their guest list after I sold them the White Powder so I’m allowed to walk into their clubs now.
I walked past the door and once again had to disarm myself at the counter which I didn’t really have a problem doing.
Before I headed in however, I turned to the guy at the counter and asked, “Do I need a guide to head to the Rat Market? Or could I just walk in on my own.”
He raised an eyebrow at me, “You sure you’re one of our clients? How do you not know the rules?”
I gave him a pointed look, “The last time I was here, I was guided there directly from M’s office.”
He grunted at my answer before jerking his chin at the door, “Just go inside to where the lift is. Tell the person standing there that you want to go to the Rat Market and they’ll take you there.”
“Right, got it.”
I entered the club and was immediately greeted with the sight of a large crowd dancing to the tune of the obnoxiously loud music on the dance floor.
I ignored that and went directly to the lift that I remember taking that should bring me to the floor below, only to find that there was no one there.
Hmm… Maybe they went to the toilet or something? Guess I’ll just wait here for a while.
…
…
Hey, this music is pretty sick.
I found myself bobbing along to the beat of the music being blasted through the unseen speakers around the club.
I watched the crowd bounce around on the dance floor, all of them syncing their bounce to the music beat.
Through the flashes of lights shining from above, I caught glimpses of the people that were on the dance floor.
There was a mix of rather young looking males and females but all of them seemed to have modded themselves with cybernetics in some way or other.
Seems like cybernetics are more popular here, though I did find out not too long ago that cybernetic mods were the cheaper mods and I already know the people living on this station aren’t exactly really well off in the monetary department.
There were a few others scattered around the nightclub who were also watching the crowd or enjoying their drinks while bobbing their heads at the sides.
Those people in particular were definitely gene modded since they had things like devil horns sprouting from their heads, a tail snaking from behind, or even just extra arms.
Guess this was just a very obvious division between the two castes which I found a little surreal for some reason.
Right as I was thinking if I should just go to the bar to ask the bartender for the person in charge of the lift, there was a soft ding coming from the lift and I turned to see the doors opening.
I turned to face it just as two large sized men walked out, dragging a person in between them.
I might have thought the guy was only unconscious if it wasn’t for the fact that there was a distinct bullet hole through the left side of his head and he was missing the right half of his head.
The two men didn’t even spare me a glance as they walked past me while dragging the corpse in between them towards the exit of the club.
Damn… What did that guy do?
Another person came out from the lift and she looked vaguely familiar to me.
I believe this girl was the same one who guided Amber and I to their black market the last time I was here.

She noticed me standing beside the lift and frowned at me, “What do you want? Looking to score a hit or something?”
“No. I’m looking to go to the Rat Market.”
She looked me up and down before letting out a whistle, “Oh shit, yeah I remember you. That hottie who managed to make our boss happy for a good, long week. Where’s the blondie who was with you the last time?”
“I’m alone this time. Have something I want to sell to the market.”
“Huh… No White Powder this time? Then again, Boss would probably not want to buy anymore since we’re still sitting on the stash you sold the last time.”
I raised an eyebrow, “I thought it would have been sold off by now. Is no one buying?”
“Oh what I meant was that we’re still selling it batch by batch and we’re not done selling it off yet. Sell too much at once and the other gangs might not be too happy with us and start making some noise. Business is bad when there’s too much noise, you feel me?”
Well, I honestly don’t really care but I just nodded to be polite.
She waved her hand, “Anyway, seems like people around here suddenly got really interested in organic food for some reason. Some people are even willing to pay triple to quintuple the price just to get their hands on some. If you’re carrying any, could consider selling them here.”
I raised an eyebrow, “Why the sudden interest in it though?”
“Dunno. I never cared for all that fancy stuff. Synthfood is enough for me and I’d rather not spend an entire year’s worth of my pay on just having some overpriced slop.”
I resent that… But I guess I shouldn’t say anything here.
She then gestured to the lift, “Anyway, you want to head to the Rat Market right? Go right in. You still remember the way, right?”
“Somewhat… I’m guessing I’m allowed to go there on my own?”
“Well yeah, you’re not retarded are you? Unless you have trouble walking in a straight line?”
I decided not to respond to that question and simply stepped inside the lift.
She pressed on the panel beside the lift doors before tapping on her personal terminal, “Wake up boys. Got a guest coming down, better be grateful.”
The lift doors closed and I felt my stomach rise for a moment before settling back down just as quickly.
There was a ding before the lift doors slid open and the same corridor with the security checkpoint sat in front of me. There were three people staffing it this time and one of them was as big as the two guys who I had met upstairs just now.
One of them seemed to recognise me, “Oh it’s you. Came to buy another slave? Did you already break the one you got the last time?”
I realised they were talking about Lea which wasn’t surprising since they did see me take her out with me after all.
I walked up to the checkpoint and shook my head, “I’m here as a seller this time.”
The big guy scanned me and his eyes turned green before nodding, “She’s clear.”
The guy who recognised me waved me through, “Right, just to give the usual bullshit… Don’t do anything stupid or else we’ll shoot you and dump your body outside. Pretty sure you already saw one example on your way here since we just sent him up before you came down.”
Right… I’m guessing he was referring to the dead guy I saw being dragged outside of the club so I nodded.
He continued, “And just in case… If you’re here to buy organic foods, you might want to go somewhere else. There’s a really crazy increase in the demand and market price of it right now and some crazy bastards would literally try to kill you just to get it off your hands. But if you really want to buy some, make sure no one sees you buying them.”
Wow, that bad?
Seriously though, what the hell happened after we left to make people go crazy for organic food? Maybe some people just got sick of the synthfood and decided they want to eat real food instead?
I shook my head, “I’m coming here as a seller this time.”
“Oh, you’re selling organic food? Then you better be even more careful because these guys would also kill you just to get it off your hands.”
“Oh no, no, you misunderstand. I’m saying that I’m here to sell stuff, not to buy stuff. I’m not specifically here to sell organic food.”
“Right… Then as I said, stay away from them if you meet them. Those guys are quite easy to spot I would say so yeah.”
“I’ll… Keep that warning in mind,” I assured him before walking away.
Well… Now I’m a little worried that they might try to rob us since we stock organic food on our ship…
Guess I should send a warning to the girls…
