Chapter 331: They Brought The Dog
“We’re being followed,” Mara informed me.
“Definitely thugs from that gambling den,” Amber agreed, tightening her arm around mine as we continued heading back to our ship.
I didn’t even notice we were being followed…
For some reason, I had that feeling of being followed when it was that group of drugged up thugs but I didn’t even get that feeling with this particular group.
I guess either they were just better at tailing or it was because I felt safe while with the girls which was why I had my guard down.
At least I wasn’t the only one because both Lea and Ries turned to them in surprise.
“We’re being followed?”
“Where?”
Mara waved her hand, “It’s fine. They aren’t planning to harm us. They’re just checking if we were sent by another gang to spy on them or to disrupt their activities so they’re tailing us to see where we’re going.”
I raised an eyebrow, “Is it because there’s been fights with the other gangs so far that’s why they are worried that they might be a target of some other gang as well?”
The doctor nodded, “That’s right. I believe we have nothing to worry about from them. They should figure out we are independent easily enough and tag us as non threats.”
Well… If she says so, I’ll believe her.
It helps that she’s able to read their minds, of course.
We reached our ship without any incidents and Ries started up the drones to help me carry the boxes of human organs I was planning to sell to the thieves.
The rest of the girls went ahead to make their own preparations since I told them I wasn’t sure if the exchange was going to be peaceful or not.
I had the choice of having the trade go either inside the ship or outside of it and I ended up deciding that letting them enter the ship to make the exchange would be better.
In case of a fight, we would have better cover options and we could make use of the drones to attack them as well.
If we were to move it outside the ship, the corridor connecting to our ship’s cargo hold would not offer us any cover to work with.
Just as I had finished stacking the boxes up near the door, I got another call on my Codex.
Tapping on it, I found the thief guy looking at me through the screen.
“Almost there. You have our stuff?”
“Yeah. I assume you have a way to transport them?”
“Yes. Don’t worry about it. This isn’t my first time.”
I could have made a joke about that but I chose to just shut my mouth and nodded at him.
Ending the call, I signalled to the other girls to prepare and I had Amber accompany me as my ‘bodyguard’.
Lea will be positioned up in the rafters with her sniper and Ries will be with her to control the drones in case these guys try anything.
Mara would also be hiding in the shadows and I’m counting on her to be my trump card in case anything unexpected happens.
I waited with the doors open and it didn’t take long for them to show up.
The guy I was talking to was leading the group and behind him were six others similarly dressed thieves who were most likely also acting as his muscle.
Oh, they brought the dog too! It’s so cute~

I turned to Amber, intending to comment on the cute doggy they brought along when I saw her staring at the dog with wide eyes.
Ah… I forgot… They’re actually regarded as really scary and dangerous weapons instead of cute, cuddly animals.
I turned back to frown at the group.
Bringing along the dog is like having one of them wear a decked out power armour to this meeting so either they were really concerned that I set a trap for them and they needed all the firepower they could get… Or they were planning to turn on me.
They walked past the loading bay doors that I had left open and the thief I spoke to continued walking forward until he stopped an arms length away from me.
His gaze went to Amber for a moment before looking back at me, making me wonder if he was thinking about our fight in the kitchen where Amber was literally using frying pans as weapons.
“Are those the organs?” He asked, gesturing at the boxes beside me.
“Oh no, those are my boxes of pianos,” I replied sarcastically.
He rolled his eyes before reaching into his pocket, pausing when he noticed Amber tensing up.
He slowed down his movement and she relaxed slightly as she watched him pull out a gold Credit Chip to raise it up in front of him.
“The Credits are all in here. Before I hand this over though, I would like to check the contents.”
“Sure, go ahead.”
He clenched his fist over the Credit Chip before he walked towards the pile of boxes and unlatched the cover of one.
Pushing it open, he peeked inside it to see the packs of human organs stored inside it.
He took one out and bounced the packet in his hand.
Not gonna lie… While I did open each of the boxes to look into the boxes to make sure that each one indeed contained what we thought it contained.
I did, however, leave it to Amber and Mara to do a thorough check of each box just in case that guy switched out some of the bags to shortchange us.
They did confirm with me that each of the boxes were legit so I wasn’t worried about him checking the boxes.
The only thing I was concerned about is him slipping in something in there to try and lower the price so I was still watching him closely.
He opened up another box and checked its contents, then moved to a third box to look inside it before he was finally satisfied.
“Alright, good enough. We’ll take it.”
He then handed over the Credit Chip to me and I received it to plug it into my Codex.
I waited as the screen popped up to show the amount of Credits that was loaded in the Credit Chips.
The number stopped at ninety million and I nodded at Amber to show that we got the money.
I then stepped aside and the others that had accompanied the thief stepped forward, the largest one of them then reached inside his cloak to take out several cubed shaped objects that had been attached to the inside of his cloak.
He placed those cubes on the ground and they expanded to reveal themselves to be transportation drones as they activated to float towards the boxes.
The boxes then separated to latch themselves onto the corners of each of the boxes to lift them up off the ground.
I was expecting the drones to start moving the boxes out but they just hovered in place.
Seems like their main purpose was to just lift the boxes up as the thieves then spread themselves out towards the boxes to push them out manually, leaving behind the dog that was just sitting there.
The border collie suddenly got up and no one else but me noticed since I was looking at it the entire time.
I thought it was going towards the thieves but I realised it was actually walking towards me.
Awww~ Does it want some pats?
I knelt down on a knee and stretched out my hand towards the dog, my action catching Amber’s attention.
She was about to ask me what was wrong until she saw the dog walking towards me.
I noticed her body freezing up before she quickly retreated several steps away while letting out a soft gasp of fear.
The sound caught the thieves’ attention and they also froze when they saw the dog trotting over to me.
“Stop!! Stop right there!! STOP!!!” One of the thieves shouted, abandoning his box to run towards us.
I actually don’t know if he was talking to me or the border collie.
Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t fast enough as the dog reached me before he could and I went ahead to start patting its head.
It sat down in front of me and I saw its belly.
“Awww~ Who’s a good girl?”
The dog let out a whine and her tail wagged behind her.
“That’s right, you’re a good girl!”
The border collie let out a bark and I saw the thieves jump at the sound.
The thief who had been running towards me skidded to a stop and he was now staring at the sight of me patting the dog.
I added another hand and started rubbing her neck and the border collie laid herself down and rolled over onto her back to expose her belly to me, prompting me to start rubbing her belly too.
“Who’s a good girl? Who’s a good girl?”
“Woof, woof!” She barked again.
Sooooo cute~
