Chapter 344: Preparing Anti-Drug Food
I admit… I may have also agreed to do this out of spite because of that guy at the gambling den.

Like I can’t believe someone like him could get away with such blatant disrespect for food while also having no idea what he was doing.

That’s why I’m agreeing to this just to show them what real food looked and tasted like instead of that absolute slop that these fake chefs have been doing.

I looked around the place to see what I was working with.

Pretty much all of the ingredients were synthfood and there was not a single organic ingredient to be seen.

I guess Tyle either couldn’t afford it or he never bought into the organic food craze.

I recognised a few of the packets which I use to alter the taste of the food as condiments and sauces so I started mixing those first.

Of course, I could always just go back to my ship to take the ones I had already prepared but why use my own when I could just use someone else’s stuff, right?

Anyway, I did want to try out some new combinations to see if I could get some better tasting results so this was a good chance to do so.

I dipped my finger into the sauce that was supposed to be similar to Soya sauce and brought it to my tongue to give it a taste.

Hmm… This combination actually tastes better. Better note that down for future use.

“Is… Is she making drinks?”

“No, those are sauces. Be quiet and watch.”

“Yes. Don’t you know you’re witnessing a miracle right now?”

“I think we can forgive him since he’s uncultured.”

“Mmm… In that case, do your best to learn ok? Because this only happens once in your life.”

I tuned out the commentary coming from behind me and moved the newly created Soya sauce to the side to join the other condiments that I have made so far.

Let’s see… I’m moving on to the testing phase for the food that I would be making but I was wondering what I could do to ‘help’ these drug addicts who don’t even know they were addicted to a drug?

I could make singular dishes but that would be a lot of work and I don’t think I can depend on the others for help either which would be my biggest drawback.

For this task, I’m probably the only one who could do this so if I were to create a dish that I had to keep cooking over and over again, I would definitely be quite bored or frustrated within the hour.

But what could I make instead?

Hmm…

I suppose I could just try and make some stew? Though I’m not actually sure if this would be enough to get them out of that addiction they were currently suffering…

I decided that worse comes to worse, I could just try another type of food if this fails and maybe this might even prove that my cooking was not as magical as they think it is.

Let’s see… What do I have to work with?

There’s actually quite a big variety of synthfood which was a little surprising to me.

I’m guessing he really tried to make his own after he tasted mine and experimented on this quite a bit.

Or maybe this is just all the food that he got leftover because there’s no more customers coming in…

Alright, with this much stuff, I think I should be able to make anything I want so I think I can just go back and try making the first stew I made when I came here. Obviously with some improvements, of course.

Let’s get some synthchicken… Then a few blocks of these synthbeef… And then chuck in these synthcheese that don’t taste like cheese at all but I just need them to make the broth… Then some of these sauces that I made beforehand… Then leave it to simmer for a while before I add in the synthvegetables and the actual salt.

I stirred the stew and poured a small amount of the stew onto a tasting saucer to test its taste.

Hmm… Could do with a little more salt.

I shook some in and stirred it a little bit more before trying it again.

Mmm~ Yep! This tastes ok.

Now I just need to leave it to simmer for a bit more and it should be ready in just a few more minutes~

I covered the pot with a lid and stepped away from it after setting a timer on my Codex.

“Is it done?” Tyle asked, looking at me with surprise on his face.

“Not yet, just a few more minutes and it’ll be ready.”

“Oh. Should I go grab– Err… I mean, should I go convince one of those affected people to come here to give it a taste?”

“You could… But I have one question about this though…”

“Shoot.”

“Even if this plan works, wouldn’t the people shift their dependence on the drug back to my food and when I leave they will still end up searching for organic food to fulfil their craving right? Wouldn’t this just result in some people using White Powder to get them hooked on it again? This seems like a temporary solution to me. And before you ask, I have no interest in settling down here and making this my permanent position, ok?”

He scratched his head, “I was thinking that perhaps you could show me how you do it and I would replicate it to continue this ‘treatment’.”

“And profit from it,” Amber added from behind him.

He shrugged, “I won’t lie, I do want to get some benefits from this… How about we have an arrangement if this works? Maybe we can work out some kind of long term deal where I pay you a percentage of my monthly earnings from the food if you can teach me how to make your food?”

I shrugged, “Let’s see if this works first, alright? You can go find some people to test this on I suppose… Though should we be the ones going to them or should they be coming to us?”

Amber raised her hand, “I vote for bringing them here. At least we can subdue them if they turn violent or if this doesn’t work.”

Lea nodded, “I agree with that as well. We’ll be more at risk if we bring this out and he gets other affected people’s attention and they swarm us for it in the event that it does work.”

You girls are treating this people like they’re zombies that got infected or something… Then again, I suppose that wasn’t really too far off the mark considering how they are acting right now…

Tyle rolled up his sleeves, “That’s great then. I’ll go ahead and grab someone to bring back here. Shouldn’t take too long since I already know of a place that one or two of them would gather.”

I raised an eyebrow at him, “Do you need help with that?”

“I would prefer some help, yes… Consider that an open invitation to help.”

My gaze shifted to the girls and Amber grinned at me, “I would love to crack some heads in for this~ Count me in!”

“Me as well, Mistress. If you will allow me to go,” Lea volunteered.

Mara shook her head, “I will remain here with Captain in case something happens.”

“I’ll stay as well,” Ries added, her tail swishing behind her.

Tyle turned to Amber and Lea, “Alright! I’ll be in your care then, ladies! Shall we?”

The three of them left the kitchen with Tyle leading the way.

I’m not too worried about them since I believe they can handle themselves well, the only thing I’m worried about now is whether my stew would be good enough.

For all I know, the drug might dull their sense of taste and this might taste like nothing to them. Or maybe the ‘taste’ they are after is that ‘happy’ feeling you get from taking the drug and…

Oh wait… The girls do say that they feel like that when they eat my food… So maybe there’s a chance after all?

As though reading my mind, which I know she couldn’t since she already assured me that she could not, Mara spoke up, “I believe you have nothing to worry about, Captain.”

“Thanks for the vote of confidence, Mara… But I’ll believe it after I see it.”

Ries looked at Mara before turning to me and raising her hand quickly, “I think Boss’s food is really nice!! Even if… Ermm… No… I think it will definitely work! Boss will not fail!”

Her tail was swishing around and her ears were twitching when she said that so I couldn’t help myself but give her head pats.

So cute~

Then I noticed Mara staring at me with an expectant look on her face and even positioned herself beside Ries.

“What?” I asked.

“Hmm? What do you mean? I’m waiting for my turn~”

…

Yeah, I patted Mara too.
