Chapter 347: It’s Adequate Enough
Tyle placed two bowls in front of me, the left one being the stew he did not use my condiments and sauces to prepare while the one on the right was prepared using them.
I picked up my spoon and scooped up a spoonful of the stew on the left.
Tyle and the other three were watching me closely as I brought the spoon up to my mouth.
I placed the spoon inside my mouth and deposited the spoonful of stew inside it.
…
Ok, it’s err… I can’t say it’s disgusting but I think it’s more accurate to say that this is just tasteless.
No wait… Not really tasteless… It’s like a mish mash of synthfood combined together.
Just saying, that’s not a good thing if you consider how tasteless and bad synthfood can taste. So here I’m getting a really weird mix of it being tasteless but also tasting bad at the same time.
Don’t ask me how that was possible but that was what I was getting from this.
I frowned slightly, “Ok… Just to check… Did you taste this yourself?”
He grimaced, “It’s tasteless isn’t it? I don’t know why but all the food I made all end up like this…”
Hmm… At least he knows about it I guess?
“Did you try any other combinations at least?” I asked.
He nodded, “I have. I not only tried different ingredients but also made variations on the amount to combine them but pretty much all of them end up like this…”
“Was there no test that ended up at least a little bit better than this?”
“Umm… I think I could say that there may have been one or two of them that could be classified as being ‘better’ I suppose?”
“And what happened to those? Did you not try to work on those?”
“About that… Umm… The problem is that I don’t even know why they started tasting a little bit better and when I tried to recreate them with slight variations, I just ended up making it worse until I ran out of ingredients to make them.”
Damn… I suppose at least he tried.
I nodded in understanding before moving to the bowl on the right, using another spoon to scoop up the stew in the bowl to bring it up to my lips.
Just from the smell wafting from it, I could already tell that it was at least a degree better than the one on the left without even needing to taste it.
I closed my mouth over the spoon to taste it anyway and I could taste the difference immediately between the two.
Despite the process being almost exactly the same, the taste was completely different where this one actually had taste to it.
Even though I say that, it’s not like this was perfect either.
It felt like there was still something missing about it. Like the taste wasn’t as pronounced or it was just kind of lacking.
It wasn’t the first time I experienced this as I realised this was similar to the cases where the girls tried to cook as well and despite doing pretty much exactly the same as what I did, the end result will always somehow never match up to what I made.
I’m saying like they could prepare the ingredients the exact same way, use the exact same amount of sauces and condiments, cook the ingredients in the exact same manner and in the exact same time, that will still be the end result regardless.
The girls have just basically claimed that it was simply because I was special and forgot about it even though it really didn’t make any sense why this was happening.
That’s why, I was a little surprised when I realised that this was also happening to Tyle despite him doing pretty much the same thing as I did but also ending up with this type of result.
That wasn’t saying that this was not good though, it was still palatable and definitely better than the normal synthfood that you might find being served in other places but it wasn’t to the level of my cooking.

I nodded at the group of four, “Taste them and tell me what you think about it.”
They picked up their own bowls and tasted them in the same order as I did, the first one being the bowl that didn’t use my sauces.
All four of them had the same expression of disappointment when they tasted the stew and quickly placed it back down on the table.
“It’s as I thought it would taste like… Tasteless and odd which dissuades you from wanting a second bite,” Tyle grumbled, pushing the bowl away from him.
The other three nodded their heads in agreement, all of them also pushing the bowls away.
I nodded at the second bowl, “Next one.”
They obediently picked up the next bowl and tasted it as well.
I thought that they might also feel the same way I did and say that this was not adequate or just felt like something was missing. But surprisingly, all of them broke out into big smiles and nodded their heads.
“This might not be as good as the one that you made, but it’s still definitely better than anything else I’ve ever tasted that didn’t come from you,” Tyle declared.
“I agree as well!” The woman agreed. “Aside from the one that I have eaten before, this is better than anything I’ve ever had!”
One of the guys nodded, “I have the same sentiment as well. I would not mind eating something like this for the rest of my life.”
The other guy also turned to me, “This might sound a little heretical… But while the one that you made was definitely the best food I have ever eaten and nothing can compare or even come close to it… But I would not want to eat it everyday because it might make me desensitised to other food and… Well… I don’t think I can expect to be able to eat your food everyday…”
Oh wow… That’s the guy who was claiming I drugged the other two by the way.
The others heard his words and also nodded their heads in agreement, all of them saying that my cooking was ‘too good’ for them and it would be unreasonable for them to expect themselves to be able to eat food on that level in the first place.
Tyle even went further and claimed that this wasn’t something that even nobles would eat on a daily basis.
My guy… I literally just mixed a couple of synthfood together in a pot and cooked it… There’s nothing really that special about it…
Obviously I kept those thoughts to myself since the four of them really believed this.
I shrugged, “Well, I guess now the important thing is whether this is good enough to prevent people from relapsing because of the drug.”
Tyle paused, “I… I don’t think it’s enough to snap the ones who are already really addicted to it, but I think it might help the ones who have only taken small amounts of it. We might need your cooking to deal with the worst cases but I believe that this would at least be enough to keep them from seeking the drug out after they have been saved by you.”
I would like to say that saying that I ‘saved’ them is a little bit too much but then again, there’s three of them right in front of me who are living proof of its effectiveness so I decided not to protest.
“But there’s just one caveat to this… I would really need to learn how to make these,” Tyle continued, gesturing to the bottles of sauces and condiments I had made which he used.
I scratched my head, “Well… I certainly think so as well… And I’ll try to teach you how to make them. One thing you need to know about this though, is that I made them primarily through testing the taste of the mixture so I think this is reliant on your sense of taste.”
Tyle gave me a serious look, “I do not need to make it perfect, Miss Tera. I just need to make one that is able to give taste to the food I make. Anything would be better than nothing at this point.”
I guess that’s true…
“So do we need to look for more test subjects first to see if the food you made is also enough to snap them out of their drug addiction?”
The woman quickly raised her hand, “Please allow us to do that! I know where we can find more people that were affected and we’ll bring them back here!”
I raised an eyebrow, “Ok… Do you need help with that?”
“Not at all! We just need to tell them that we found someone who is selling the best tasting organic food here and they will come willingly!”
“Right… Then I guess I’ll leave that to you?”
The three of them saluted which I found quite weird since this wasn’t the military but they ran off before I could say anything.
Whatever… Let’s just try and teach Tyle how to make the sauces while they are out I guess…
