Chapter 356: When You Want To Go Stealth
Ok, so I’m pretty sure this place is an apartment complex of some sort that had been taken over by these thugs for their own purposes.
To think that the room I had been in was an actual room that people could rent out to live in here… This place really is sad…
The only reason why I knew this place was an apartment complex was because I ended up coming across a sign on one of the walls that said the building was known as something ‘apartments’.
The front part of the name was illegible as the thugs had sprayed graffiti over it and replaced it with the words ‘The Fuck House’ instead.
I tried to open some of the doors but it seems like every door on the floor I was on was locked.
The personal terminal I had on me also could not unlock them so I assume that the thug was only given the key to unlock my specific door and nothing else.
Moving down to the end of the corridor, I found myself standing at the lift lobby where there were four elevator shafts but only one of them was operational.
There was also the staircase where the door leading to it was hanging off by a single hinge.
In a place like this though, taking the lift to a floor that I don’t know if it would be trapped or what might even be on that floor would be a death sentence.
Thus, I decided that using the stairs would be the best option for me.
As I stepped past the broken door, I realised I was standing on the very top floor since the stairs only went downwards.
They really carried me all the way up here, huh?
I’m guessing this was to ensure that I would have a hard time escaping from here or being rescued?
Considering that there were no windows around at all, even if I wanted to throw myself off the building, I couldn’t.
I also felt mildly annoyed that there weren’t any floor numbers and there weren’t any spaces for me to see how far down the stairs went either.
Wait…
I went back to the lift lobby to look at the display panel on the lift, finding out that the number twenty was displayed on it rather prominently.
Considering those two guys most likely used the lift to get up here instead of the stairs, I’m going to assume that we are at least twenty floors up from the ground level.
Guess I’ll really have to take this one floor at a time.
I held my rifle close and did a check of the rifle to make sure that it was cocked and the safety was off.
Slowly, I crept down the flight of stairs to the next floor below me.
I peeked around the corner and let out a soft sight when I found the next landing empty.
The door that would open up to the corridor was closed shut and I decided to ignore it in favour of going down another flight of stairs.
This time, before I even reached that landing, I could hear some sort of tapping sound and what I think was music coming from the next floor.
I straightened myself, figuring that I could at least try to pass myself off as a newcomer or something if there was someone there. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll just shoot them.
I turned around the corner and I found a thug sitting on the stairs alone, tapping away on his personal terminal.
Judging from the sounds coming from his personal terminal, he was most likely playing a game or something.
He had an energy rifle propped up against the wall on his right, the weapon leaning at an angle with the barrel resting against the wall.
I held my rifle perpendicular to my body to act as natural as I could but my finger was on the trigger, ready to shift it into a shooting position should he try to reach for his weapon.
Making sure my posture was as natural as possible, I descended the stairs without trying to hide my presence.

Turns out, the guy was so engrossed in his game he did not even realise I was behind him until I reached the same step that he was sitting on.
Even then, he did not appear alarmed and merely turned towards me to see who it was.
I nodded at him, “Hey. Slacking off?”
He relaxed slightly, clearly not recognising me but the casual way I talked to him must have made him think that I knew him.
“Oh shut up. Aren’t you doing the same thing? Why else would you be all the way up here?”
“Hey, I had to check on our new prisoner. That’s different from you, ok?”
He turned back to his personal terminal, “Oh right, I actually forgot about that. Do you know what they want her for?”
“Not at all. Do you?” I asked, mentally patting myself on the back for being able to pull this off.
“Someone was saying that the Guild had a new cook and they were supposedly really good. Like really, really good. On the first day, people that went in came back out and dragged more people to go in and then those people came back out to do the exact same thing. All of them said that the food was phenomenal and nothing like they ever tasted.”
“I’m guessing the cook in question is the one stuck upstairs now?”
“Yep. Heard they were going to put her to work in our own kitchens. Don’t know how she does it but if you ask me, I think it’s a complete waste of time. She probably just used an even higher dosage of the drug so I don’t know why the boss wants to take her specifically. We’re already profiting from this by selling the White Powder anyway so why do we also need to take part in this stupid cooking thing?”
Wait… Selling the White Powder?
Fuck, this gang is the Rattlers aren’t they?
Either that, or they were some other group that also found out about the drug being used in the food I suppose.
Mentally adding another objective of finding out whether they were really the gang I was thinking about, I decided to ask another question that I found worrying.
“I’m surprised we found out about her so quickly though.”
“Well, I heard we got lucky because there was a group of people that were supposed to be our informers. They were also brought inside the Guild and reported on what was going on there. Apparently they cut off contact after they started eating for some reason so I definitely believe they got drugged.”
“You seem to know a lot huh?”
“Hmm… You really don’t come up here that much huh? The bosses usually smoke on the floor below us and they talk quite a bit when they do that. Loud enough that you could hear them without much problems if you were to be sitting right here.”
“I see… Well… I guess I should be going now. Good talk.”
“Yeah… Wait. Why are you even taking the stairs?” He asked, turning back to raise an eyebrow at me.
It took me a moment to come up with an excuse.
I went ahead to grab my own ass, “Hey, you think that someone like me could get an ass like this by doing nothing? Got to work out when I can.”
His eyes moved to stare at my ass and it seems like all his suspicions melted away as he took in the sight of my bottom.
Yeah, I knew he would be distracted by that.
He caught himself staring and quickly averted his eyes back to his personal terminal, “Yeah, sure, whatever…”
I stepped past him and was just about to turn the corner when I saw him put down his personal terminal to reach for his gun.
I quickly spun around and lifted my rifle to point at him, leveling the barrel to aim at his head.
His eyes widened and I growled at him, “What do you think you’re doing?”
He furrowed his brows, “If you know what’s good for you, you should just put the weapon down. I was pretty much letting you know what we were planning with you by telling you all that.”
“First things first, how did you know that I wasn’t one of you?”
“You think I’ll tell you? It doesn’t matter, I already raised the alarm so the entire building already knows you’ve escaped. They’ll be here in a moment and if you don’t surrender, they’ll shoot you on sight. Work for us as a chef and you’ll still live. Don’t, and you die. Choose–”
I pulled the trigger and shot him in the head.
Fuck… Guess I have to go loud then… So much for stealth being an option here…
