Chapter 369: We’re Starting A Gang War
Turns out… They would really fight for food…
“Anyone who participates would get an upfront payment of these cookies baked personally by our dearest Captain herself! So who is willing?!”
“Me!”
“Sign me up!”
“Me too!!”
“For the cookies!!”
Seriously… You guys need higher standards… You’re really willing to risk your lives for cookies?
Then again… Now that I think about it… These people were recently converted from being drug addicts so they were already willing to risk their lives for food… This isn’t anything new to them.
Just saying, it’s not just like a group of five or ten Mercs gathered here agreeing to this call… I’m seeing like at least a hundred or so Mercs in the Guild room right now with all of them agreeing to the call to arms.
And this hundred or so Mercs were apparently just the first group that answered the call and they were planning for more people to join us later.
Well… I guess I wasn’t going to turn down help anyway so I didn’t question it.
On the other hand, the girls were surprisingly enthusiastic about this fight for some reason… As if this was something personal for them.
I don’t really think that they were feeling this way simply because these guys kidnapped me though… Like sure, I’m quite confident that it may be part of the reason but I think there’s another reason behind their enthusiasm and I was a little bit concerned that I might not like the reason behind that.
So… I did the most sensible thing of just not asking at all.
Seems like it’s too late to ask anyway since they look like they are already moving on to planning how to attack the gang’s hideout
I went over to Amber who had chosen to stay at the sidelines instead of joining the discussions in the centre of the Guild hall.
“So… Anything I should know about this plan?” I asked.
Amber looked up at me with a slight tilt of her head, “Hmm? If you ask me, Tera. I think you can just do whatever you think you should do.”
I gestured to the group in front of us, “Aren’t they trying to come up with some kind of plan right now? Shouldn’t we join them to figure out our role?”
She waved her hand in front of her, “Oh no, no. We’re splitting up to two different teams. We’ll be going to attack a different base as compared to them. Mara is just telling them what she knows about the base.”
Ah… Wait a minute…
“Did I just hear that we were supposed to be attacking a different base? ‘We’ as in just the five of us? Five of us dealing with an entire base of enemies?”
Amber gave me a look, “What’s wrong with that? Didn’t we already do that just yesterday?”
“We did that because we don’t have a choice, right? So now that we do have a choice, why are we subjecting ourselves to this again in that case?”
Amber scratched her cheek, “Well… Apparently it’s to ensure the highest chance of success. We know we can handle a base by ourselves but the others… Not so much… Especially when we need to capture the leader of these hideouts alive so Mara can work on extracting the information of the other bases from them so it’s much more dangerous than normal.”
Ah, I guess that’s true… And with Mara with us, I guess we could pretty much steamroll any enemies we come across as long as they don’t have another Psionic or have means of going against a Psionic enemy.
I nodded, “Fine then. What’s our target? I think we should at least have a discussion or some planning on how we’re going to attack that place, right? I assume our plan isn’t to just rush in blindly?”
Amber grinned, “Don’t worry Tera. This isn’t my first time assaulting some badly defended bandit base. Mara would be filling us in on the details as we make our way there after she’s done with the other Mercs.”
“We’re going to attack it right now?”
Amber nodded, “No time like the present, right? It’s better to attack them while they still have minimal preparation right? We’re pretty much starting a war here and we want them to be as unprepared as possible.”

“Hmm… I guess so… Where’s the others?”
Amber nodded towards her left, prompting me to turn in that direction to spot Ries and Lea, the former busy caressing the machine gun backpack I had given her with an excited look on her face while Lea was busy checking her sniper rifle for the umpteenth time.
“Guess I’ll go check on them first while we wait for Mara,” I decided, waving at Amber before I walked towards the Alv and the Maochatte.
The both of them were so occupied with what they were doing that they didn’t notice me until I was right in front of them.
Ries immediately jumped up to her feet excitedly, “Boss! Are we going yet! I can’t wait to test this out! This is a Galactic Armaments L-Two-Seven Light Machine Gun with a backpack belt feed and shield attachment! This is military grade, Boss! You don’t just find this anywhere nowadays! Not even if you look in the black market for them!”
Well… I’m not surprised to hear that, considering how it practically allowed me to wreck an entire building worth of enemies. If I didn’t have this, I might not have managed to get through all those thugs as easily.
I shook my head, “Well, not yet. We’ll have to wait for Mara to finish preparing those Mercs. Then she’ll brief us on the place we are attacking on the way there.”
Lea hefted her sniper rifle on her shoulder, “Would it be somewhere that I can set up outside to provide overwatch?”
I shrugged, “I dunno. We’ll have to wait for Mara to give us the details of the place later. I think she’s the only one who even knows what the place is right now.”
Lea nodded in understanding before she went back to checking her rifle.
Ries then came up to me while hugging the machine gun to her chest, “Boss! So what do you think about this gun? I want to hear your thoughts on it!”
“Eh? Err… It’s nice to use I guess? It basically makes you into a walking tank. So it’s like a Power Armour but without the Armour.”
She nodded her head enthusiastically, “That’s right, that’s right! Did you know that this specific weapon allowed a team of soldiers to hold out against a large army of bug monsters on the planet of Xetarva? There were several hundreds of them and a team of ten people managed to defend an outpost from the onslaught without taking a single casualty!”
“I take it you really like this gun?”
“Oh yes! I love it, Boss! Umm… But is it ok for me to have it though? This… This is really expensive…”
Despite her words, I could tell that she really hoped that I would tell her that she could keep it.
I chuckled, “Of course, Ries. I dare say that this weapon might suit you the best. I prefer my current loadout anyway so there’s no need to hold back.”
Her face brightened up immediately, “Waaah! Thank you, Boss!! You’re the best!!”
She leapt towards me and hugged me, her face burrowing in between my chest while she rubbed her face against me.
She looked so cute so I couldn’t help myself but to start patting her head, the action causing the cat girl to start making purring noises and her ears to twitch cutely.
I then felt a tug on my sleeve and I turned to see Lea looking at me with an expectant look on her face.
I didn’t really know if she wanted me to pat her as well so I just went ahead to give her a kiss on the lips.
That seemed to be the right answer because she immediately kissed me back while her hands reached up to hug my neck, the Alv shivering at the touch.
A cough prompted us to quickly separate before we got too into it and I turned to see Mara and Amber standing behind me.
“Seems like you were all having fun without us eh?” Amber chuckled, skipping to my side to hug my arm.
I gave her a kiss as well and Amber made a cute giggling sound for that.
Mara came forward, “Are we ready to go?”
I raised an eyebrow, “Aren’t you going to tell us the plan or something?”
She gestured towards the door, “We can talk about it as we walk. The place we are hitting is a few streets down in an underground area of the station. The place used to be some kind of factory similar to the first one we went to. I’m guessing this gang likes to look for abandoned factories to repurpose them into their own hideouts.”
“Would it be safe for us to talk about it outside?”
“Yes, we’ll be moving through an underground tunnel so there won’t be anyone around us. So shall we?”
Right, I guess we’re doing this then.
