Chapter 374: The Other Bases
Hmm… I have to say… The loot here wasn’t as good as I thought it would be… At least in the last part of this base…
Like I was expecting there to be some hidden room stashed full of stuff but there wasn’t…
Oh there’s loot alright but it just wasn’t as good as the last base’s. I guess expecting every base to be decked out in loot was too much to ask for… Especially when I didn’t even see something like an armoury here.
Anyway… After I knocked out the boss, I immediately went to strip search him and found the equipment that he had used to do what he did.
It’s apparently a modified personal shield device that had a cloaking function added on to it.
I thought this was something normal to see but apparently, shields and cloaking doesn’t work well together according to Ries.
The shielding would cause cloaking to be translucent at best unless one stays extremely still, which was the case for this one.
If you wish to activate the shield function on the device alongside the cloaking, there would be a faint outline that would give away your position if you were to move.
Obviously this wouldn’t matter if your opponents were completely blind or not paying attention but for people who are paying attention, they would at least notice some movement which could catch their attention.
But obviously if you were to turn off the shield function or just stay really still, then this drawback also wouldn’t affect you.
Which was why this was a perfect upgrade for Lea so I gave that to her.
She looked down at the device I had handed to her with an odd look on her face, “Are you sure about this, Mistress?”
I raised an eyebrow at her, “Why wouldn’t I be sure? This suits you the most so of course I would be giving it to you.”
“I… Understand, Mistress. In that case, please allow me to accept this from you.”
“I mean… I already am giving it to you aren’t I?” I pointed out.
She gave me a smile, “Of course. My apologies, Mistress.”
I then turned towards the reason why we were here, specifically to get the information from the boss of this place.
“I guess we’re going to take him back to get the information of where the other bases are?” I asked, looking at the unconscious and naked guy on the ground.
Mara shook her head, “There’s no need Captain. I already extracted those locations from his mind. He’s currently useless to us right now.”
Oh wow, she works fast.
Amber came up and pointed her pistol at the unconscious guy and immediately fired a round through his head, killing the guy without mercy.
Damn girl… You weren’t even going to hesitate in that execution eh?
Since we’re pretty much done here, we started backtracking through the factory and picking up anything that was substantial in value including weapons of course.
Still… I was a little disappointed to find out that there were less weapons than people in here.
“This doesn’t make any sense…” I muttered after we gathered everything. “Why wouldn’t there be at least one gun per thug in here? Why would there actually be fewer weapons?”
Mara was the one who answered me, “I can answer that, Captain. We were quite lucky in this as this place is an administration base where they keep records of their activities.”
I tilted my head, “How is that luc– Oh. Let me guess… This guy knows where all the other bases are?”
The slight curling of her lips was all I needed to see to know that was the case here.
“So how many bases do they have?” I asked.
“That’s where things get a bit complicated… Do you want to know about how many bases they have on the station?”

I blinked at her, “Are you telling me they have bases off station?”
She nodded, “They have another base a distance away from the station on a floating asteroid inside a decommissioned mining base built on top of it. It seems like that’s where they get their military equipment from as the reason for the decommission was that a military cruiser had rammed into it by accident and some of its cargo had been left drifting around the area which they managed to salvage from.”
I gave her a look, “Err… Doesn’t that mean the loot we’re getting from them might be wanted by the military? Would we be alright?”
Amber giggled, “Ehehe~ You don’t need to worry, Tera. I’m pretty sure they have already written off the equipment as lost since they had lost them in this sector, Tera. Remember what this place is?”
Right… I guess they already expected pirates or looters to steal them and sell them off somewhere else so even if they were to try searching for it, it would just be a waste of time for them.
Ries also added, “Additionally, these people also modified them to suit their own needs so I would say they wouldn’t even be registered with the military scanners anymore.”
I’m not sure how that worked so I’ll just take her word for it.
“Anyway… How many bases do they have within the station then?” I asked, bringing the conversation back.
“Not counting the two we have destroyed and the other one the Mercs we hired are attacking? They have seven more,” Mara answered immediately.
I made a face, “Why do they have so many hideouts? Doesn’t that just cause their manpower to be divided?”
“It’s to expand their sphere of influence, Tera. Even though I say ‘hideouts’ there’s four of them that everyone is aware exists and their presence puts pressure on the other gangs and groups in that area.”
“Does that mean those places are more heavily guarded?”
“Yes, Captain.”
“And by that… It means those bases have more loot and better equipment, right?”
“Yes, Captain.”
Nice.
I clapped my hands together, “Alright then. Do we have anything else here or should we leave already?”
The girls all did a final check of their stuff and gave me a nod to show that we could leave.
Just as I was about to walk out of the factory, a notification came from my Codex that indicated I was receiving a call.
I raised my arm and tapped on it, showing that it was a call from Tyle.
I answered it and his face appeared on the screen in front of me.
“Miss Tera! I am glad you answered! Are you ok?!”
I raised an eyebrow, “Err… Yes, I suppose? Why?”
He ignored my question, “Have you attacked the base you are aiming for yet?!”
“Yes I have… In fact we cleared it out already. Why?”
“You cleared it– Ah… I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised since it’s your group. Did you meet with any resistance?”
“Obviously. This place was guarded, wasn’t it? So we had to shoot our way in and kill everyone inside.”
“Was there any particularly troublesome resistance?”
I thought about it for a moment, “I suppose… You could say they had that construction mech thing I guess? I also learned that this place is just an administrative hideout so there weren’t a lot of weapons for them to use against us to begin with. Why are you asking though?”
“Because the other team that was sent to attack the other base met with very heavy resistance, almost as if they were expecting them. I suspect that our plans might have been leaked… That’s why I was afraid that they might have also set a trap for Miss Tera and your group at your target base.”
I frowned, “Leaked? Does that mean we have a spy or something?”
Tyle looked like he was about to answer but Mara popped up beside me to interrupt him.
“That is not possible. There aren’t any spies within the group of Mercs. I checked. I believe they were prepared for a raid for another reason. Has the base fallen yet?”
Tyle hesitated, “They are still fighting but from what I hear, it should be finished soon. That hideout does not have enough firepower or numbers to withstand what we are throwing at them so it’s just a matter of time.”
Amber groaned, “But that means the other bases most likely already received the news that they are being attacked and they would increase their defenses…”
Tyle smiled at her words, “You don’t need to worry about that Miss Amber. We have just conve– Ahem… recruited more people who are interested in joining us. There is actually more but… I’m afraid that I’m not enough to cook up the food that we need to convince them to join us… So I was also wondering if Miss Tera would…”
His voice trailed off but I knew what question he wanted to ask.
“Do we have new organic food ingredients?” I asked.
He nodded, “A new batch just came in a few hours ago.”
“Alright then… I suppose you should keep the stoves hot for me to get there and start cooking huh?”
I’m actually looking forward to seeing what kind of new ingredients they have~
