Chapter 376: Forming Raid Groups
I managed to get out of giving them any honey for now as we were called to the meeting room where the other Merc leaders were gathered.
Seems like Mara had finished giving the details out to the people involved and it was time to strategise or something along that line.
I entered the room that was designed to be a meeting hall with a large table and several screens that one could use to display plans or meeting slides.
Gathered inside the room were a mix of rather colourful people. Some looked well equipped with body armour, big and shiny weapons and even high tech accessories. Then there’s some who looked scruffy and dishevelled and would look more at home in a bandit’s hideout than as a Merc.
And then we have the other end of the spectrum where there’s really muscular girls who look like they could pick up a grown man and literally crush them with their hands, then there’s girls who look like they were there for a beauty pageant in their elaborate dresses and makeup instead of a tactical planning session.
Just for the record, my girls are much more attractive.
All eyes turned to me when I stepped inside, making me a little conscious of myself but this wasn’t something that I have never experienced before. So I just simply reminded myself what I was there for and went to find an empty part of the room to stand in.
Unfortunately, it seems like there was already a predetermined spot for me because Amber and Lea, who had followed me in, ushered me away from my corner and towards the head of the table, right beside Mara.
Err… Why am I standing here?
Mara nodded at me in greeting before turning back to address the rest of the room, “As I said, this is the client and sponsor for this quest, Leader of the Teran Mercenary Company, Tera.”
All of them gave me nods of greeting and acknowledgement.
I was doing my best to keep my face neutral but inside I was completely and utterly confused by what was being said.
I’m the client and sponsor? Since when? And what quest? The quest to raid the bases? I don’t remember putting out an official quest for it.
That means… The girls did?
Hmm… I suppose it would make sense… Yeah. That’s how they recruited those Mercs to help out in the first place, right?
Now that I think about it… That’s actually a good idea. The only downside is that the gang would definitely know that they were being targeted but I guess at this stage, they should already know after three of their bases just went dark.
Guess I should have thought of this sooner but that’s why I’m grateful that I have such competent companions by my side.
I straightened myself slightly as Mara continued, “As I have already briefed all of you, the locations and general layout of each of the remaining bases. We shall now decide which groups shall be in charge of each base.”
One of the more well equipped guys spoke up in a gruff voice, “My team can take the hideout located in sector Z-seventy two. I have some men who used to work there so we’ll have an easier time navigating there.”
Another one beside him raised his hand, “I’ll also take the same area. I had done some jobs around that area as well.”
Mara turned to me and gave me a look.
Wait… You want me to make the decision? I mean… That sounds reasonable right? So why not?
I nodded at her curtly.
She turned back, “In that case, the two of you can take that sector. We’ll designate you as group A. Is there anyone else who would like to be assigned to a specific base?”
Several others started to recommend themselves to be assigned to specific bases and Mara would always look to me for confirmation which I just gave a nod since I felt their reasonings for choosing themselves were reasonable.
We quickly established seven groups where each of them would be targeting one of the seven bases.
The rest of the group leaders then started arranging themselves to join the other groups according to how heavily guarded each of the bases were.
Then I realised that there were still a few people left over who have yet to choose any of the groups yet.
Mara then turned to them, “I suppose the rest of you will be joining us to attack the final base outside the station?”
All of them nodded.

Oh right, I forgot about that base.
There were six of them who would be joining us and according to their reports on their teams, two of them had ten Mercs under them while the other four had five each.
That brought the number of additional Mercs joining our raid to forty seven, meaning our team would have a total of fifty two people if it included us.
It seems like these six had also chosen to join us because they had their own ships as well, so we would have wingmen on this mission instead of flying alone.
I was then told that there were more solo Mercs waiting outside who weren’t part of aa group and they will also choose to join one of the groups later on so this number was not fixed yet.
After we had decided our groups, we scattered to start our own plans on how to attack each of our assigned locations.
For my group that was attacking the mining base, Mara brought out what looked like a map of the station itself to display on one of the screens.
Mara nodded at me, “Captain, these are the maps I managed to get from the last hideout we hit. Do know that these maps might not be completely accurate as they are showing the station while it was still operating as a mining outpost, so the layout might have changed under this gang.”
She then gave me a look which I realised meant that she wanted me to be the one to come up with an attack plan.
Looking at the other Mercs who were quietly watching me, it seems like they were also expecting that as well.
They really trust me that much huh?
I squinted my eyes and studied the maps for a moment.
The station was shaped like the number seven that had a line going through the middle section.
I could see that the hangars and docking bays were at the top part which I assume were given that large of a space to allow freighters to dock there.
The section going downwards seems to be built into the asteroid as the mining section of the base and the line going through the centre part was where they processed the ores and also where the living area was housed.
“Are there any external defenses?” I asked.
“They have perhaps a handful of A Class fighters which should not be a problem for us. But that means we would not be able to sneak in as well so we can expect the entire operation to be hot the moment we dock on the station.”
“Do we know the numbers we might be facing?”
Mara thought for a moment, “The station was designed to house sixty people but records showed that there have been as high as two hundred workers being put there before. So I would guess that there are at least a hundred and at most two hundred of them.”
I see… So assuming we have about sixty people as well, in the best case scenario we might have the same number of fighters as them and at worst, we might be outnumbered three to one.
The latter would be an even fight I suppose.
Looking at the rest of the map, I quickly came up with a plan for my group.
“Alright, here’s what we’re going to do. Since there’s no way for us to sneak in, we’re going to hit them hard and fast. We’ll have three ships carrying people that will enter the station after we wipe out any ships they have so those who are joining us have your men split between my ship and two others. The rest will run patrols outside just in case more of them show up.”
One of the Mercs raised his hand, “Why three groups though?”
“Just in case they have one of the docking bays trapped or guarded, the other two will be able to dock before helping them. Now once we’re in, we’re going to clear out the entire building so the key points are the security room, the armoury and the storage room. We’ll have to secure these three places as fast as possible with the security room granting us information on the enemy’s movements to better plan and coordinate for any surprises. We’ll go with this plan for now but be ready for changes in case things don’t turn out the way we expect it to. Any questions?”
All of them shook their heads.
Alright then, guess it’s time to raid a mining station.
