Chapter 379: Knock Knock, We’re Here For Loot
I docked back in my ship’s hangar while it approached the mining station.
I powered down the Verlandi and grabbed my gear before heading to the exit ramp.
Unsurprisingly, Amber was already there waiting for me with a smile on her face.
“Ready to go, Tera?” She asked.
“Yeah. And the others?”
“Ries is cruising us to dock on the station. ETA five minutes. The other Mercs are also waiting at the cargo bay. Shall we join them?”
Why not?
I hopped off the ramp and let the Verlandi lock itself as the two of us made our way to the cargo bay.
Entering it, I found the Mercs that were accompanying our ship all waiting at the centre of the cargo bay and doing final checks on their weapons.
Aside from those guys who look like mechs, a few more had transferred over from the other groups to even out the numbers on each of our boarding parties.
Our group had twenty of us in total while the other two would have eighteen each. The reason our group had more people was because we’re expected to help the other two boarding parties in case they faced some unexpectedly strong resistance.
Unfortunately, Mara won’t be able to openly use her Psionic abilities here since news of that might spread amongst these Mercs which might get unwanted attention from the people hunting for her.
That doesn’t mean she can’t use it secretly though, so it won’t be a problem even if she were to join us with just her pistol.
I had suggested that she could simply just stay back on the ship instead of going with us but she insisted that she would follow us.
Her reason was just in case something really bad happened, she would be there to deal with it instead of being unable to help.
Amber tried to argue that she was there but Mara just stared at her and she quickly stopped talking.
When I joined the Mercs, most of them greeted me quite enthusiastically and politely, which I assumed was because I was the client and sponsor as Mara had told them.
I returned their greeting and they went back to doing whatever they were doing before.
Right as I was about to ask if we should go check on the bridge, the door to the armoury opened and Ries, Lea and Mara entered with their own equipment already prepared.
They came over to me the moment they saw me with Ries leading the way.
“Boss! You’re back! That was some awesome flying!” She praises.
“Umm… Thank you, though I don’t think I did much. But more importantly, who’s flying the ship?”
“Don’t worry Boss! The automatic docking sequence has already been activated! So we’re already docking with the station!”
Right. In that case…
I turned to the Mercs, “Everyone get ready! We’re preparing to board!”
They quickly got to their feet and came over to gather in front of me.
I cleared my throat, “Alright, as planned, everyone has their team leaders, our first priority is to take over the hangar which I have no doubt would be fortified and crawling with enemies. We’ll fight our way to link up with the other two teams and once we’ve cleared out the hangar, we’ll continue deeper into the station. Team leaders, you are in charge of your own team, you guys know your group best so I’ll leave how you fight to you guys. Loot will be distributed amongst everyone after the raid is over based on contributions. Any questions?”
No one said anything but they all had the same look in their eyes, the look that they were ready to shoot some shit up.
I couldn’t help but grin at them, “Alright then, let’s go make some money!”
Ries guided us to the door that would be connected to the station and all of us arranged ourselves behind it.

The people with personal shields had been arranged at the front in case they were already waiting for us and we came under fire the moment the doors opened.
As the door cycled open, all of us trained our guns at the door, ready to fire at a moment’s notice.
With how tense everything was, the time it took the door to open felt longer than normal.
When it finally opened, we found five thugs standing behind the door with their rifles raised and pointed towards us.
But when they realised that we had way more guns and people than they thought, they immediately froze up and tried to surrender by raising their hands.
“No prisoners,” I announced, firing the first shot.
The thug in the middle got his head blasted open and that was the signal for the rest of the Mercs to open fire as well.
The five thugs were quickly gunned down and we advanced through the door and into the station proper, moving together with the people with shields covering the front first.
That seemed to have been the right decision because a burst of automatic fire came towards us the moment we stepped inside, which would have killed a few of us had we not had those shields.
It seems like they had really fortified the area in front of the docking hatch because they had machine gun emplacements and even ballistic walls set up to protect them from our return fire.
Just as I was thinking if I should toss a grenade, one of the solo Mercs that was decked out with cybernetic mods jumped out in front of us and rushed towards the thugs.
Naturally, all the thugs started to concentrate their fire on who they thought was just some dumb Merc thinking he was a hero.
I thought he was trying to make himself a martyr too when something sprouted out from his back and projected an almost opaque shield in front of him.
It seems like it was a specialised directional shield because it left his back open and only covered his front. Because of that, I’m pretty sure it was stronger than normal shields because despite two machine guns concentrating on shooting at him, the shield held strong and didn’t break.
We immediately followed after him, using this guy as cover to advance towards the fortified positions that the thugs were hiding behind.
I thought this guy’s role ended at being a shield but he surprised me once again by leaping forward when he neared the front of the enemy lines so that he landed in the middle of all those thugs.
I saw a spark appear near the thing that was projecting the shield before an electrical blast was shot out in a wave around him, throwing the thugs that had been close to him away to smash into their own barricades.
There were a few that were not thrown by the wave as they were protected by their personal shields but that turned out to be their undoing as their shields shorted out and they got stunned by the electrical current instead.
The rest of us caught up to him and we immediately overran the thugs’ positions, finishing off any of the thugs that were dazed from being thrown by the wave.
There were a few that managed to escape since they were on the other side and took cover behind some of the barricades that were still standing.
They must have thought they were safe until one of us lobbed a grenade over the cover and the explosive landed right behind the barricade that those guys had been hiding behind.
There was a short pause before an explosion ripped through the barricade, blowing apart the people behind and the barricade itself.
A few more thugs appeared from around the corner, probably reserves meant to reinforce any position that needed it.
Obviously they were expecting their own side to at least still have a hold of the position since they skidded to a stop the moment they realised this part of the station has already been overrun.
Before anyone could even react, Lea had fired a shot that blasted a hole through three of the thugs that had been unfortunate enough to stand in a line, their bodies dropping to the ground almost at the same time.
They immediately tried to turn around to run but we also started shooting them at the same time, the entire corridor being lit up with a hailstorm of bullets that quickly shredded the thugs into pieces.
That wasn’t the end as a few more thugs turned the corner and tried to shoot at us from there, only for another Merc to throw one more grenade which blasted that section of the wall and the thugs into pieces.
Then just like that, the place suddenly became quiet once more.
Moving to the end of the corridor, we found ourselves in the hangar where several fighters still remained and were in the midst of being boarded by their pilots.
The thugs saw us and shouts of alarm went up as they ran for cover.
“Go! Follow your team leaders! Clear out the hangar!” I ordered.
Now it’s the real fight.
