Chapter 380: Clearing The Hangar
As we had planned, all of us separated into our own groups and started our assault on the hangar.
Amber, Lea, Ries and Mara followed me, our team in charge of flanking the main defenders to flush them out of their cover.
Inside the hangar bay, there were still eight Class A fighters that were docked on the landing pads that were waiting to take off.
I guess our assault on their defenders was so fast that these guys didn’t even have time to take off yet. Then again, it’s evident that they weren’t prepared for a possibility of an attack because if they did, they would have already launched by now.
One of the pilots was even still in the midst of climbing up to the cockpit so I just fired a shotgun round into his back and blasted his back open before he could climb into it.
A few of the thugs that had been nearby immediately tried to dive for cover when they saw us approaching but Amber reacted quickly and shot a few of them down before they could hide themselves.
Ries then leapt ahead of us and fired a few bursts from her machine gun, obliterating the boxes the thugs had been hiding behind and leaving them wide open.
The rest of us finished them off before moving up to their next line of defense.
Unfortunately, the next fighter managed to launch itself out of the hangar before we could stop it so we’ll just have to trust the Mercs that were left to patrol around the station to be able to take care of that one.
The thugs guarding that line turned to fire a few shots at us and we had to take cover, a few of their energy rounds absorbed by my shield as I hid behind a bunch of boxes.
My impromptu cover shook as several bullets struck the other side, protecting me from the deadly projectiles.
I took the chance to load in a few slug rounds into my shotgun before peeking out from behind, firing the first buckshot round at a trio of thugs hiding behind a metal container.
One of them had the unfortunate luck of getting several pellets blasted through his head, killing him instantly.
The other two saw their friend getting blasted and immediately dove down into cover.
I took note of how they ducked behind the cover and aimed at where I believed one of their heads should be.
Taking a moment to make sure that I had a slug round loaded in the tube, I pulled the trigger and watched it punch through the container like it was made of paper.
I heard the metallic clang first before the soft sound of flesh being penetrated reverberated from behind the container, which was followed closely by the thump of a body hitting the floor.
I quickly switched to the next target and fired another shot as well, the slug round piercing through the container and striking the thug behind it in the head as well.
Popping back behind cover to slide in a few more shotgun rounds, I waited for a moment more before dashing out of my cover, making a run towards the enemy lines.
Amber seemed to have the same idea as I did since she jumped out from behind her cover at the same time as I did and rushed towards another group of thugs.
She even shot me a grin when she saw me do the same thing before she dashed ahead and leapt over one of the barricades.
She spun in the air and fired her pistols in a circle, accurately blowing out the heads of the thugs that had been hiding behind the crates before landing in a flourish.
One thug made the mistake of standing up to take aim at her and he just so happened to be in front of me so I leapt over the cover and kicked him down, spotting another thug crouched behind that same cover.
I swung my shotgun and shot the guy in the face, blowing him backwards to splatter his brain all over the floor.
I stomped the guy I kicked onto the ground before blasting his chest open with my shotgun.
“Arrghhh!! You bitchhhh!!” Someone shouted from my right.
I turned around just in time to see a thug rushing towards me with a knife in his hand.
Eh? Does he not have a gun or something? Not that I’m complaining of course.
I raised my shotgun and fired a round at the charging thug, expecting my shot to connect and eviscerate him with my shotgun pellets.
But the reason why he was willing to come charging at me became apparent when a translucent shield appeared and protected him from my shot.

I quickly stepped to the side to avoid the knife stab, the thug overextending himself and stumbling past me.
I smashed the butt of my shotgun at the back of his head, knocking him to the floor before I pulled out my own knife and stabbed it into the back of his neck, bypassing his shield. Maybe that’s why he chose to attack me with a knife instead of a gun?
A choked gurgle came from the thug before his body went limp.
Right then, my shield flared as it protected me from a shot aimed at my head and I looked up to see another thug aiming his rifle at me.
I quickly picked up the knife that the thug below me dropped and flung it at the thug, the knife embedding itself into the thug’s left eye and killing him.
Another thug behind the one I just killed stood up and tried to shoot at me but his head suddenly jerked to the side as a sniper round went through his head.
I looked back and gave Lea a nod of thanks before I continued to my destination, which was the flank of the main defending group hiding behind a makeshift barricade with a mounted machine gun aimed at the Mercs.
Some Mercs tried to take pot shots at the turret but there was a shield at the front that was protecting the gunner from being shot.
“Ries!”
The Maochatte didn’t even ask me what I wanted and simply tossed a grenade over to me.
I quickly activated it and tossed it over behind the barricade before taking cover, covering my ears and ducking my head in preparation for the inevitable explosion.
“Grena–”
That was all one of the thugs behind the barricade managed to say before an explosion ripped through the area, blasting them apart.
The guy manning the machine gun got sent flying out from the force of the explosion, his entire back littered with shrapnel from the grenade before doing a flip in midair and splattering on the ground.
On the other end of the hangar, it seems like the other flanking team also managed to clear out the defenders as explosions wrecked through the thugs’ front lines.
As if on cue, more explosions came from two different corridors that sent thugs flying out, revealing the other two boarding parties charging through the smoke to join the fray.
Seems like they didn’t have any problems boarding this station as well.
The Mercs that had been pinned down by the machine gun fire gave out a warcry and jumped out from their cover to charge towards the centre of the hangar.
The thugs saw the sudden rush of Mercs and a few of them broke as they ran from their positions, opting to retreat rather than to stay and fight.
Those were easily picked off by our snipers and Lea had a particularly good time sniping down most of them from where she laid.
She was even making full use of her new cloaking device as she laid down prone on top of a container while firing her coil rifle with none of the thugs even realising she was there.
The remaining thugs tried to stand their ground but it was obvious it was a losing battle as right now they were outmanoeuvred and outgunned after their machine gun emplacements had been taken out.
Unfortunately, two more fighters managed to take off before we could get to them but the rest were stopped as we managed to gun down their pilots before they got onto the ships.
Some of the thugs tried to surrender but since I’ve already given the order to leave no prisoners, all of them were gunned down instead.
With all three groups of Mercs joined together, we managed to clear out the hangar with no casualties.
Only a few Mercs got hit but they were minor wounds at best and all they needed was to spray themselves with some biofoam to cover the wounds and they were good to go.
I gave the order to do one more sweep of the area to make sure that all the thugs were dead while I went to the group leaders to check on the state of the ships outside.
Seems like after the first one flew out of the hangar, the others managed to shoot it down pretty easily and had been watching the hangar ever since in case more fighters came out.
Thus, the other ships that managed to leave were also shot down really quickly without being able to do anything.
Now for the most risky part of the mission… We’re splitting up to clear out the rest of the station.
Let’s split up and search for clues… Err… I mean loot!
