Chapter 381: I Call Dibs On The Storeroom
So a small confession…
I may have been a little bit biased when I was assigning the groups to which area they were in charge of securing.
That’s why I gave us the storage room to secure since I believed that this should be the place with the most amount of loot.
I would have chosen the armoury but since this place was supposed to be a mining station, there was no such room in this station which was why I chose the next best choice.
Hey, as they said, I’m the client right? That’s why I get to decide this, heh heh~
But this also means that this place would be more heavily guarded and we would be the ones that need to clear it so that’s fair right? High risk, high reward as they say.
And to prove my point, I’m currently looking at a heavily fortified position in front of the place that was supposed to be the storeroom.
Not only were there more machine gun emplacements, they even had automated turrets placed behind the barricades too.
I turned to look at the girls behind me where we were hiding behind the corner, “Any ideas?”
“We can just charge them and have Mara deflect the bullets for us?” Amber suggested.
I shook my head, “For this place, I’d like to keep her usage of her Psionic powers to a minimum if possible. Let’s leave that as a last resort.”
Ries raised her hand next, “I can tank it, Boss! Just let me go in front and I’ll shoot them up!”
I raised an eyebrow at her, “Do you see those automated turrets and machine guns, Ries? I don’t think even your shield would be able to hold up against that number of guns aimed at you.”
“I can take it!” She claimed confidently.
“No you most most definitely can’t,” I countered.
She pouted before peeking around the corner again, making sure that none of the thugs saw her before she ducked back again.
“Those automated turrets should be connected to some kind of network… So if we can find an access point, you might be able to hack them and turn them over to our side, Boss.”
“That easily?”
“Well… Normally they should be really hard to hack into but I think with your personal terminal, it might be possible to just hack into it really easily.”
Oh right, that might be possible.
In that case… Let’s see if I can connect to them remotely then…
I brought up my Codex and tapped on the screen to look for devices that could be hacked wirelessly.
Surprisingly, there were a lot of results and I scrolled through the list to see what was even detected.
Let’s see… The names listed here look like they were the model names so I had to guess what they were based on that.
Err… This one says something, something optics so I’m guessing that’s a scope or something… Otherwise it’s a cybernetic eye?
Wait… You’re telling me that I can just shut off someone’s cybernetic eye and make them blind? Damn… This is more OP than I thought…
Ok… Let’s just see what might be the… Oh, there it is.
There’s three options that says ‘Auto Turret’ at the end so I’m pretty sure that’s the three things I need to hack, considering the fact that I see three of those turrets there in reality too.
Hmm… Could I just hack all three of them at once?
Unfortunately, it seems like I would have to hack them one by one as there was no option to do a mass hack.

I guess that’s one of the down sides about being able to hack anything easily.
I tapped on the first turret and started the little minigame to hack it, finishing the hack in less than five seconds.
I was afraid that it would just start firing the moment I hacked it but it seems like it opened a new menu when I finished the hacking process.
It seems like I had full control over it now.
Using the menu, I can see that I am able to shut it down, define who friendly and enemy targets are and even manually take control of them.
I then got an idea and went ahead to deactivate the turret, which prompted one of the turret’s to fall limp and point its barrel at the ground.
“Hey! What the heck?!” A thug shouted in surprise.
“What?! Are they here?!”
“No! One of our turrets just deactivated!”
“How can it just deactivate?! These are military grade auto turrets!”
“Did it get hacked?!”
“That can’t be! Do you know what kind of security these turrets have? It took us three days to even break through the security to make them recognise us as friendlies!”
While they were talking I already hacked into the second and third turrets and deactivated them as well.
“Guys! The other turrets just got deactivated!”
“That can’t be possible! They must have hit us with an EMP!”
“But my cybernetics are still working though…”
“You’re saying they hacked into all three turrets all at once?! That’s impossible!”
I went ahead to wipe out the list of friendlies in their database before registering us as friendlies. The entire process took only about a minute before I went ahead to activate them again.
“Someone go and call– Oh wait. They’re starting up again! Goddamn stupid machi–”
The turrets swivelled to point their barrels at the thugs beside them and started gunning them down with energy bullets, burning holes through the bodies of the thugs without shields and quickly depleting the shields of those that do.
“Ahhh!! Why are they shooting at us?!”
“Fuck! Hurry up and destro– Ahhhghhh!! My hand!! My buuugghhh…”
I hefted my shotgun and gave the girls a look, “Let’s go. The turrets won’t shoot at us so don’t need to worry about them.”
The girls gave me a nod of understanding and hefted their own weapons in preparation as well.
I jumped out from the corner and ran down the corridor, firing at any thugs that were still left standing or were hiding from the three turrets currently mowing their friends down.
The others followed behind me, similarly shooting at the remaining thugs that were still left standing.
“Enemy!! They’re here! They’re–”
I fired a buckshot round that blasted the guy’s face off before he could finish his warning.
A few of the thugs had made the unfortunate decision to hide on the other side of the barricade of where the turrets were, which meant that they were now in between the turrets and us.
In other words, they had absolutely no cover and I was free to shoot them like sitting ducks.
A few tried to return fire but our shields managed to hold for us to return fire and kill them.
The remaining retreated to the next line of barricades and took cover from the barrage of energy projectiles fired from the turrets.
“How did they hack our turrets?!”
“How the fuck should I know?! Just shoot them you idiot!”
“With the turrets shooting at us?! The moment I peek out there my head’s gonna get blown off!”
Ries turned to me with a grin and I nodded.
She pulled out a grenade and tossed it in the direction of the thugs that were arguing, the explosive bouncing on the barricade before landing right behind it.
The thugs that were arguing quickly went silent, probably looking down to see what had landed in between them.
They didn’t say anything else before the grenade exploded, blasting even the barricade to pieces.
I wasted no time in charging past the turrets to leap over the barricade where their last line of defenses were and taking aim at my right.
Pulling the trigger, the shotgun pellets that were shot out from my gun peppered the unfortunate thug that had been hiding beside the barricade I had just leapt over.
Amber joined me on my right, doing the same thing I did but shooting at the thugs to the right instead.
One of the thugs thought it would be a good idea to try and rush me with his shotgun but his head got blown off by one of the turrets the moment he stood up.
I pulled the trigger a few more times, blowing a few more thugs away before Ries ran in between two barricades to skid to a stop with her machine gun pointed at the remaining thugs.
They only had time to widen their eyes at the sight of a small Maochatte holding a machine gun that was aimed at them.
“Nyahahahaha!! Time to dieeeeee!!” She laughed, mowing down the remaining thugs with a hail of bullets.
Even though she wasn’t aiming at me, I felt a little scared of how aggressive she was being so I vaulted over the barricade just in case any stray bullets came my way.
In the end, Ries finished off the rest of the thugs, leaving only bodies that were riddled with a ton of bullet holes that made them look like swiss cheese.
