Chapter 382: There’s A Power Armour Here
Unsurprisingly, the storeroom was locked so I just hacked into the door controls and unlocked it easily using my Codex.
Ries was still marvelling over the automated turrets because apparently those were normally unobtainable in the open market.
We’re definitely taking those turrets back then.
Once the door was opened, we peeked inside to make sure the coast was clear before entering the room.
When I saw the rows upon rows of weapons and ammunition, I knew we hit the jackpot for this.
As I had thought, they converted the station’s storeroom into their armoury.
And right in the centre of the room was something that I didn’t think I would be able to get for free. Except with a single problem…
“Is that a power armour?” I asked.
“Looks like it,” Amber muttered.
The reason why we weren’t too sure was because it was in pieces. The only reason why I even guessed that it was a suit of power armour was because I spotted the helmet laying on the ground.
Ries immediately charged into the room and ran straight to the power armour left in the centre.
“Waaaahhh!! I can’t believe it!! This is the TES Mark Seven Power Armour! What the hell did they even do to it?!”
I watched our Maochatte cradle the helmet of the power armour like a baby as she cursed whoever took the armour apart.
“Those bastards! They must have realised that they couldn’t hack into the suit so they thought they could just disassemble it!! These idiots!!”
“Err… Does this mean that this can’t be put back together?” I asked, fearing the worst.
“Uuugghhh… I may be able to do it… Since it looks like all the parts are just dumped here anyway I could probably figure out what each part did and assemble them together… I think… It’s not like I can just go onto the GalNet and search up its blueprints either…”
“Is this military grade too?”
Ries nodded enthusiastically, “That’s right! That’s right! The TES series are exclusively made for the Terran Military and the best part about it is the fact that it’s extremely customisable! They were made with the idea that they would be used in a variety of scenarios so instead of making specialised power armour, the military opted for a single power armour but made it adaptable to any type of mission based on its armaments!”
She rummaged through the pile to pull out what looked like a device that would have been attached to the back of the power armour.
“This… Hmm… This looks like an external generator… And this one should be the shield generator… No wait… Ah! This one is the life support system! This armour was outfitted to be able to operate in any kind of planetary environment while also operating on its own for an extended period of time! I’m willing to bet this was supposed to be used in a mission to assault some kind of hostile planet but got lost here instead!”
She managed to get all that just from looking at a few pieces of armour huh… I’m actually not surprised.
Ries then went ahead to start sifting through the pile excitedly so I told the girls to gather up all the other things in the storeroom first to prepare them for transport.
We weren’t going to move the stuff back to the ship right now since the station wasn’t secured yet but we’re just going to load them up onto cargo bots so that we could move them easily once we’ve taken over the station.
I haven’t forgotten that the other Mercs were also competing for loot so we’ll have to move this quickly just in case some of them get any ideas.
While the others were busy with that, I went over to Ries to watch her inspect each piece of the armour and even every nut and bolt that was scattered around the centre of the room.
“This one… This one should be with this one… And that one should go here… Ah! This is the generator core! So if this fits with this…”
She lifted a cube shaped thing and waved it at me happily, “Look, look, Boss! I found the internal computer! Looks like they only tried to do some rudimentary hacking attempts on it so it’s still intact! If they had tried to brute force it, this would have burned itself out and rendered the armour useless! So we’re in luck!”
I looked at the cube shaped thing, “This thing has a computer?”
“Oh right, Boss has never used power armour before right? Most of the really good ones have at least some kind of AI on board. Some might even be able to move autonomously on their own if their AI is of a high enough Class! I’m not very sure what Class of AI was built into this one though. But if the suit was designed to be used in an environment where the pilot would most likely be alone for extended periods of time in a hazardous area… I think it might be Class Four at least.”
“That’s pretty high up isn’t it?” I asked.

“It’s actually quite normal within the military to be honest. But for most Power Armour, they would use Class Three at most since they don’t need the AI to be controlling the power armour most of the time.”
“Most of the time?”
She made a face at me, “Like the pilot dying in the suit for example. The AI will just take over the piloting of the suit and either continue the mission or return the suit back to friendly lines.”
“I’m surprised they don’t just use autonomous power armour instead then.”
“Boss, humans don’t trust AI entirely, remember?”
Oh right, because of the AI rebellion and stuff. There’s still extremists who entirely swore off anything related to AI and condemn not only the technology itself but also people using it as well.
Ries continued, “Even though I say that, I know for a fact that the Terran Military also uses autonomous droids in their numbers anyway. So if you ask me, humans are really hypocritical.”
Well… I have to agree with her there…
Because I know for a fact that I’m a hypocrite myself. Just look at us raiding the storeroom while the other Mercs were probably fighting over the scraps that were left outside.
“Anyway… Since the Ai is intact, I think the possibility of restoring the armour has just increased to ninety five percent!” Ries added excitedly.
She looked pointedly at my Codex, “If Boss’s personal terminal is also able to hack into the AI’s security, I would be able to get the AI to assist me in restoring it!”
Oh~ That certainly sounds promising.
“In that case, should I try it right now?”
“Eh? Is Boss able to do that right now?”
I shrugged, “I don’t know but it’s worth a shot right? Does being able to hack into the AI make a difference in our decision of restoring this power armour?”
Ries thought for a moment, “I would say… If we’re able to hack it, it would reduce the restoration time by at least ninety percent.”
“In that case, it’s good to try it first right? You’re the only mechanic on our ship and we’re already depending on you to keep the ship flying. I don’t want to add more unnecessary burdens on you.”
Ries shook her head quickly, “Not at all Boss! The drones have taken over most of my work which can be automated so I’m happy to take on more projects! And Boss! This is a TES Mark Seven!! The most advanced suit of power armour the military is using to date! I definitely want to see it in action!!”
“Err… About that… Just checking… If the military sees this in our possession… We wouldn’t be in trouble, would we?”
The fact that Ries didn’t answer me straight away and stared at the power armour on the ground was actually quite worrying.
I was just about to suggest that perhaps it would be a better idea to just leave it after all when she suddenly jumped up.
“Don’t worry Boss! I know what we can do! All we need is to change the colour of the paint, then swap out some of the parts and use attachments that aren’t normally used by the military! It’ll just look like a power armour that was designed while referencing the TES Mark Seven instead of being an actual Mark Seven suit! No one will know!”
Hmm… I trust her so since she was so confident about it, I’ll just let her do it then.
In that case, let’s try to hack into the AI first…
This is my first time connecting to an AI so I’m not sure if the hacking would be any different. It might even be completely impossi– Oh… It’s the same… And I just finished hacking into it in less than ten seconds…
That was easy…
