Chapter 385: Remember To Breathe
I quickly sent a message to the group leader of the Mercs at the front, warning them about the threat they were about to face.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like they have an effective means of dealing with a dozen or so military grade power armour so we sounded a retreat for now before the power armour reached them.
Now it was our turn to be on the defensive as we looked for a potential location where we could deal with those Power Armour on their side.
I might be able to deal with their armour with my shotgun but that requires me to be up close to them to even try that.
Plus, these were military grade power armour… Their plating might even be too thick for my shotgun to penetrate as well.
As though reading my mind, Ries spoke up from beside me, “Umm… Boss? Sorry but I don’t think your slug rounds are able to penetrate their armour even if you were to fire it from point blank range. They’re designed to withstand even high calibre rounds…”
“So how do we deal with them?”
Ries turned to the other girls, “Did we find anything big in the storeroom earlier?”
All of them shook their heads.
Ries made a face, “That means they might have stored the anti armour weapons somewhere else… Or we were so unlucky that amongst the equipment dropped by the military… None of them were anti armour…”
“So what do we do?” I asked again.
“Umm… Maybe we can ask the other Mercs if they have anti power armour equipment on their ships?”
I went ahead to send that question out to the other Mercs and waited for a response.
Unfortunately, all of them returned with a message that they all did not possess any weapons that could go against power armour of that quality and quantity.
Shit…
The only good thing now was that we spotted them ahead of time so we avoided engaging them and we had a head start on retreating from them as well.
The bad news is that it seems like they are able to run in that power armour so it’s not like they have trouble catching up to us either.
It also looks like they have rallied all the remaining thugs behind these twelve suits of power armour to make a final charge towards us and bring us down with them or something.
At this point, it seems like if we do not want to throw people’s lives away for this, we’ll have to retreat from here.
Sure, it would definitely hurt to leave all that loot behind, but I wasn’t going to risk our lives for it.
Hmm… Maybe we could still run and get the things in the storeroom and then bring them back to the ship before we leave?
It’s not like they can chase after us anyway if we also take a moment to disable the remaining ships in the hangar as well.
Wait… I suddenly had an idea.
I looked down at the security console, “What can we control from here?”
Amber shrugged so Ries took over and inspected the console.
“Umm… Seems like pretty much everything, Boss. Door controls… Camera controls… Even temperature and air controls…”
I turned to face Ries, “Those suits of power armour… Are they equipped with environmental protection or whatever? The one that allows them to function in any kind of environment I mean.”
Ries leaned closer to one of the screens to narrow her eyes at the screen showing those power armour marching down through the corridor.
“Mmm… Yeah… These are also the Mark Sevens… They all have in-built independent environmental protection…”
Ok, it doesn’t really matter… It just changes my plans a little.

All I need to do is find the… Ah! There it is! Alright, this might work!
I gave the order for everyone to evacuate back onto their ships and shut the airlock doors.
I also specifically reminded them not to go into my ship since my entire group is here and there won’t be anyone who would be there to open the doors for them if they were to try and run to my ship.
“Are we retreating from here, Miss Tera?” Someone asked over the comms.
I grinned slightly, “No. But it’s just going to get a little bit difficult to breathe soon enough so better make a run for it.”
The look on their faces told me they understood what I meant and I could see on the cameras that they increased the speed of their retreat.
Soon enough, I could see them run past the security room from the cameras there and I started to vent out the amount of oxygen supplied to all the rooms except for this one.
I wasn’t going to just empty it out completely right from the start of course, since that might clue them in that we were controlling it from the security room. But my plan was to gradually lower it so that by the time they reach the hangar, it would be too late for them to realise that fact.
I locked the door from this side and all of us hid ourselves behind the console so that anyone who ran past the security room would not be able to see us.
A few minutes passed and the sound of thundering footsteps came from where our Mercs had just come from.
“Wai… Wait… Huff, huff… Slow down a little…” Someone cried out.
“This is why I told you to work out! You are so out of shape! We need to get them before they leave!!”
“Easy… Easy for you to say! Huff huff… You have a power armour… To help you!”
“Just shut up and run! We need to catch up to them! They must have been buying time to go through our storeroom! We can’t let them leave with all our stuff!”
“You… You go on ahead then… Huff… I’ll catch up…”
“Fine! Hurry up!”
I peeked out from behind the console right as twelve guys in power armour ran past with even more thugs following behind them.
Those guys must have some really good lungs because the oxygen level has already lowered by quite a bit yet they were still going strong.
The ones behind them however, were struggling to keep up with the group and a few of them had to stop in the corridor to try and catch their breath before they continued to jog forward.
Good, they don’t even suspect that it was due to us tempering with the air yet.
“Psst~ Tera, you’re a genius~” Amber praised me from behind me.
I rolled my eyes, “I would thank you but I think now isn’t the time…”
With that said, I reached up to move her hands away from my boobs where she had been squeezing for a good few seconds after she said that praise.
She pouted at me, “Could you blame me? You look so hot commanding those Mercs just now!”
“Right, right… Can we just concentrate on this first?”
I waited for a few more minutes to see if there were any more stragglers from behind this group but it seems like that was everyone.
I then went back to the console to check the cameras to look at where our Mercenaries were.
It seems like they managed to reach the hangar just in time as the thugs had managed to catch up to them right at the doors.
They fired several shots and launched a few explosives which were completely ineffective against the thugs in power armour but it did manage to slow them down.
There were quite a number of them who were also stumbling around because of the lack of oxygen but it seems like they were doing better because I gave them prior warning about it and those who weren’t as affected helped to support those that were to the exit.
By the time the thugs managed to enter the hangar proper, the last Merc had already stumbled through the airlock and let it cycle shut behind him.
Through the screen, I could see one of the thugs in power armour pointing in the directions of where the Mercs had escaped to, no doubt to try and pursue them before they could undock their ships.
The thugs that were not in power armour however, could not follow along as they finally reached their limits and started collapsing one by one.
I think they finally realised that something was wrong when they saw their comrades fainting and very quickly the ones without power armour were already out cold.
Now what do you think I was planning to deal with the power armour you ask?
Well… I found a very neat button which controls the atmospheric shielding inside the hangar bay. The very thing that keeps the air from leaking out into space while still allowing solid objects to pass through.
You know what that means?
I pressed the off button on that and almost immediately, everything inside the hangar flew out into the vacuum of space, including those twelve guys in power armour.
It’s a shame we couldn’t get those as well but oh well, small price to pay if you ask me~
