Chapter 386: Might As Well Loot Those In Space Too
After turning the atmospheric shields in the hangar back on and refilling the station with air, I did a final check using the cameras to make sure that the entire station was clear before calling the Mercs to tell them the coast was clear.
Since the station was now cleared of enemies, everyone knew what time it was.
And by that, I mean it’s looting time~
I let Ries, Lea and Mara go ahead of us to take the loot from the storeroom while Amber and I cleared out anything that was usable inside the security room.
We could have also gone to loot the dead thugs as well but I decided to leave them for the Mercs since if we get too greedy, we might turn the Mercs against us.
And since we’re going to be transporting some of them back on our ship as well… I don’t want to give them a reason to try and take over my ship.
I mean sure, we could probably take them on but hey, no need to create more reasons for trouble right?
Besides, we’re already taking quite a lot of stuff from this place so there isn’t really a need to deprive the Mercs from getting some loot of their own too.
That’s why we were the first group to board our ship with the loot we already prepared to extract ahead of time.
As we boarded the ship, I sent a message out to the Mercs telling them that they are free to loot the place for the next few hours before we need to leave.
They would be free to decide what they want to do with the loot in the station and the pilots outside are also free to loot the space surrounding the station as long as there was someone keeping watch.
I wasn’t really too worried about the space side since we had one guy who already set up a minefield so we should be alright even if some enemy ships were to suddenly appear around here.
Anyway, since we’re already on board our ship, we could also provide fire support from here in case that happens.
For now, we’re gonna be busy organising all the loot we got from this station raid.
“So… How does it look?” I asked Ries, our Maochatte currently busy noting down all the stuff we got as her drones helped organise them into neat piles.
“Hmm… I would say it’s a decent haul, Boss. I assume we want the Power Armour for ourselves, right?”
“That’s the plan, yeah. It would be nice to have at least one power armour for ourselves since we have trouble procuring one so far.”
“In that case, could I trouble Boss with something?”
“Sure, what do you need?”
“Umm… You vented out those guys earlier right? They should still be floating around in the area somewhere. Could you maybe bring one of them back here? It would help if I had something to reference from when I’m assembling it.”
I raised an eyebrow, “Huh? In that case, why don’t we just use the one that I’m grabbing instead? You won’t need to rebuild it in that case, right?”
Ries chuckled, “That is if you can convince the pilot of the power armour you grabbed to peacefully exit the power armour instead of trying to kill us, Boss.”
“Wait… You’re saying that they’re still alive right now?”
She nodded, “Yep! They can probably still survive out there for maybe a few more hours before they run out of air and they suffocate to death. But they’re still alive and kicking right now. Unless Boss wants to wait for them to die like that before collecting them?”
“Couldn’t they save themselves though?”
“Mmm… Not sure how they would do that. They didn’t equip themselves with a jetpack and the Mark Seven does not have in-built thrusters on them for them to manoeuvre in a zero G environment.”
Ok, putting aside the fact that this power armour really seems like it can be customised for anything, I’m just imagining these guys being sent flying out into space and not being able to do anything but wait to die for the next few hours.
That’s actually really depressing if you think about it… It’s similar to being buried alive I guess.
But well…
“I think it would be better to just wait for them to die then. We could potentially get like twelve more power armour suits doing that,” I decided.

Hey, loot is loot. Plus these people were thugs from the very beginning and they definitely killed others as well so none of them are innocent in this.
Ries then gestured in the direction of the hangar, “In that case Boss… You might want to get going to start marking them. Right now they must still be flying away from the station so the longer we wait, the further they’ll be and we might not be able to find them since they’re too small to be picked up by our current scanners.”
Oh right… They can’t even stop themselves right now.
I went ahead to let the other girls know of my plan and Amber immediately volunteered herself to join me as my wingwoman.
Mara and Lea also wanted to come along as well but I told them to stay on the ship in case anything unexpected happened and they would be here to deal with it.
I strapped myself into my pilot seat and activated the hangar bay doors to launch the Verlandi out.
Incidentally, Amber was already outside in her own ship waiting for me. I swear, one of these days I’m going to find out just how she is able to do all this faster than I do…
“Comms check, Amber. Can you hear me?” I called out.
“Hearing you loud and clear, Tera!”
“Alright, we’re looking for some poor saps floating in space in power armour suits.”
“Do we shoot them on sight?”
“Ermm… If we can help it… Let’s try to keep them intact. We’ll try to mark as many of them and then wait for their air to run out before grabbing them.”
“Mmm~ Alright then~ Where shall we start?”
I turned towards the mining station’s hangar bay doors, “We can start at the hangar bay doors of the station and fly out in a straight line to see if we can find anything. Ries told me that they shouldn’t have any means of propulsion on their suit so they should still be flying in a straight line.”
“Alright then! I’ll be on your wing and keeping an eye out!”
I left the comms on and flew towards the hangar bay doors of the station. I then aligned my ship to it and roughly guessed the direction of where those poor guys might have been sucked out into space and just started flying towards that direction in a straight line.
Amber followed behind me and I kept my speed low as I scanned the darkness of space for something resembling a power armour suit that was floating around.
Since there were also other things that had been sucked out, I believe if I found some floating debris or trash, then I should be on the right track.
But the fact that these guys were launched into space almost an hour ago meant that they must have flew for quite a distance already and we might not even be on the right course to search for them.
Well… To be honest, I wasn’t really expecting to find them anyway but I just thought that it didn’t hurt to try. So even if we found nothing, I would still be–
“Tera?”
My thoughts were interrupted by Amber calling out to me.
Before I could ask what she wanted, she quickly continued, “Tera, look to your right!”
I turned my head as she asked and saw a small flash of light that only lasted for a split second before it disappeared.
At first, I thought it was just the light from a distant start when another flash appeared further down.
Then it happened again a short distance away from the second flash.
I realised that the flashing thing was travelling in the direction of the station.
I turned my ship around and tried to scan the area of where I saw the flashes, using the ship’s cameras to try and look for the source of it.
It seemed like my luck held because another flash of light appeared and
I immediately turned one of my ship’s cameras to zoom in on where the light had happened.
And there it was… A single guy in power armour currently flying towards the station.
I thought that maybe Ries had been mistaken about them not having thrusters on their armour since that was what I assumed caused the flashes of light.
But then I realised the guy was actually firing his ballistic gun in space and using it as an improvised thruster to manoeuvre himself through space.
Oh wow, this guy’s pretty smart.
