Chapter 387: They’re Flying In
I tried to see if there were any sights of more power armour propelling themselves through space using their guns and sure enough, following close behind the first one were the others who were mimicking their leader.
They really seem like they were really determined to reach the station by propelling themselves with their guns.
I tapped on the screen to initiate a call with Ries, the call only needing two rings before she picked up the call.
“Boss?”
I tapped on the screen to share the camera view with her, “Err… Yeah… They’re doing that right now…”
Ries made a face at the screen, “I forgot they could do that…”
“Do they have enough time to reach the station though?”
She tapped on her own personal terminal and a bunch of numbers popped up.
Wait… Is she actually calculating their speed to determine the time they need to reach the station?
It took her a moment before her brows furrowed, which was enough to tell me that she most likely calculated that they should be able to reach the station.
“Should I shoot them down?” I asked.
Ries hesitated for a moment, “If we can seal up the station, they shouldn’t be able to enter.”
“Can we do that from here or do we need to go back to the security room?”
“We’ll have to go back to the security room…”
“Do we have time?”
“Umm… Boss should be able to send a message to the other Mercs in the station and get them to access the security room and lock it down.”
Oh, right. We left the door unlocked so anyone should be able to do it.
I tapped on my Codex and made a call to the Merc leaders, telling them to get someone to access the security room to lock down the station.
“Is something wrong, Miss Tera?” One of the Merc leaders asked, concern in his voice.
“The people in power armour are currently flying back to the station, we want to keep them out and drain their air to asphyxiate them.”
One of them raised his hand to get my attention, “I can do it. But we would need to get the ships to undock from the docking bays first or they would be stuck to the station as well. Then they could possibly try to gain entry to the station through the ships.”
“Got it, have all the ships undock from the station and stay at a distance in case anything unexpected happens.”
“Couldn’t we just shoot them down with the ship weapons? I don’t think those power armour suits are able to withstand ship based weapons, right?” Another Merc suggested.
“Because we want the power armour intact,” I explained.
The Mercs nodded in understanding and I was surprised that they didn’t ask if we would be splitting up the loot for them as well.
Oh well, I wasn’t going to complain about that so I shut off the call to turn back to Ries.
“Can you take off as well, Ries? Get our ship just far enough that they wouldn’t be able to fly to our ship easily but close enough that we can dock in the station quickly if we need to.”
She gave me a salute through the video call, “You got it Boss!”
She ended the call and I turned my ship to start heading back to the station, making sure that I wasn’t flying back directly so that it didn’t look like I was onto them.
Amber also followed behind me, keeping the same distance as I was from them.

It took them another half an hour before they even reached the outskirts of the station and as they approached the hangar bay, the hangar bay doors suddenly started to close up.
Wait… Why did they take so long to close up? Were they struggling to find the button to close the hangar doors or something?
The sight of the doors closing must have made the thugs realised that they were being trapped and they started firing their ballistic rifles to increase their flying speed.
Judging by their sudden boost in speed, it actually looked like they might be able to make it before the door closed.
Not good…
I quickly sent another message to the Merc leaders, telling them to expect some company from the hangar bay.
Turning my ship towards the station, I activated my ship boosters and sped towards the hangar bay doors, aiming for the gap between the power armour and the station.
As I flew closer to them, I pulled the trigger to unleash a hail of ballistic shells in their direction.
I wasn’t really aiming to hit them but more to get them to break away from their current path instead.
Unfortunately, it seems like one of them was especially unlucky because he got hit directly by several ballistic shells that shredded through his armour.
I’m guessing he had prioritise his life support systems and redirected his suit’s energy from his shield generator to that instead, otherwise he might have survived that blast.
Damn… That’s one less power armour we can loot I guess…
I then flew underneath them, aiming to fly in between the station and the group of thugs to disrupt their flight path.
A few of the thugs figured out my plan and started shooting their ballistic guns to change their direction of travel while another group started shooting their laser weapons at me.
My shield tanked the damage without much effort since their weapons weren’t designed for combat against ships.
I didn’t want to risk them latching onto my ship and boarding me instead so I kept my distance from them as I flew in between them and the station.
More of the thugs lost their nerve and shot their guns in the direction of the station to slow themselves down, but it seems like two of them saw through my bluff and maintained their flight path to shoot past my ship towards the station.
Deciding that we could just live with losing another two more power armour as loot, I spun my ship around and fired a hail of energy projectiles from my ship’s chain gun at them.
The bullets struck the back of them but their shield protected them from the brunt of the impact.
I switched to the ballistic cannon instead and fired a single shot at them.
The shrapnel shattered their shields and one of them got eviscerated by the blast, the power armour spiralling away to crash into the side of the station by the force of the blow.
Unfortunately, the other guy seemed to have only suffered minor damage and the blow from my ballistic cannon actually boosted him even more and he shot towards the station at an even greater speed.
I watched as he slipped in between the hangar bay doors before it could close and crashed onto the wall on the other side of the doors.
I had a moment to hope that he was killed by the impact but my hopes were dashed when I spotted him slowly getting back up on his feet.
Fuck.
I sent out a quick warning to the Mercs, hoping that they could deal with just a single power armour that was damaged before turning my attention to the remaining thugs still floating in space.
They scattered when they saw me turn to them, probably thinking that I was going to blast them to bits as well.
I wasn’t too worried about them since getting them away from the hangar bay doors was my goal from the start so I kept track of where each one went in order to claim them easier later.
The hangar bay doors finally slammed shut behind me and I accelerated my ship out towards space once again to turn back around to face the station, making it look like I was searching for them.
That made the thugs look for hiding spots around the surface of the station and a few drifted towards the asteroid’s surface instead, trying to get as far away from me as possible.
Bringing up my Codex, I gave Ries another call and waited for it to connect before asking, “Ries? How much longer can they stay out here?”
“Erm… I would say they have maybe another hour before they start running out of air, Boss.”
An hour huh… I guess we better sit tight then…
“One of them got through though. Do you think they will be alright inside there?” I asked.
“Well… If there is only one, I think they should be able to handle it… We only had to run the first time because they had so many of those power armour and we didn’t carry any anti-armour weapons to deal with that number.”
Fair enough… I suppose I’ll just have to hope for the best.
Then again… It’s not like I’m attached to any of the Mercs there in the first place so I wouldn’t really care if they died anyway.
Oh well, I’m just going to sit here and wait for the others to die in their suits then.
